Beginnings. (Kalypso)

The smoke rose up beside her. She smiled and awaited her first customer. She was a soothsayer. Or she tried to be one. The scent of incense was overpowering. She didn't understand why they liked to use them. She pulled out her deck of tarot cards and shuffled them. She still wasn't sure what they all meant, so she just improvised. "Lunch time!" someone called from outside her designated room. She stood up in a fast manner making her earrings jingle. She bent over and grabbed an apple from under her table. She didn't like to eat much on the job.

She followed the sounds of her fellow fire demons' voices', they, like her, had ash color skin, it was the only characteristic they shared. "How's business going for you guys'?" she asked, her voice was soft and melodious.

"Eh, I can't complain," a male, Frium, spoke. He wore a red turban on his head today. He was embarrassed to show his bald head. "I'd say I've had at least nine people come in my lodgings." The others were all in unison. Her smile went limp.

She left the room and headed back to her own. There was Inga, the messenger. She stopped and looked around. No one had seen so far. She quickly made haste to her room and pulled the little flame in.

"I've been sent here to fire you," it spoke. She watched as it floated around the room, touching everything. Surprisingly, nothing caught fire. That was because it couldn't catch fire, Inga just looked like the fire starter.

It came as a shock. She wasn't expecting this so soon. "Fired?" She ran her hands nervously through her black hair, a bit of purple shown from within it. Now what was she to do? She sighed and patted the messenger with her forefinger. She guessed she could be like her sister and be a merchant.

She walked home slowly. Would being a merchant be any better than acting like a soothsayer? She sure hoped so. She rounded the corner and saw her sister, busy as usual. She pushed her way through the guys that surrounded her sisters' stand and whispered in her sisters' ear, "I've lost me job today and vas vondering if I could work with yew?" Her aqua eyes looked over at the beautiful female and waited for an answer.

"Of course you can! Velcome to the family business!" the female smiled, "First thing I need for you to do is go to Hewter and pick up these things for me, thanks hon." Kalypso looked down at the list in her hand and sighed. She would have to make do for now. She turned around and headed to the new town. It was only a couple of miles from here.

Author notes

She's one of my characters from Demon affairs. i thought it'd be fun to give some background info about them and then bring them altogether in a short story of how the crew came to be. (BTW I’m only doing this with my crew members. none of the others.)
