The wind swept through his hair. He loved it. The view, the smell, everything. It was much better than his other home. He loved the light more than the dark. He was Jared, a demon from the underworld. His silver-blue eyes scanned the blue surface. There was a larger ship nearby. A red flag hung from the highest mast. He turned his small boat around. He didn't feel like interacting with other sailors. He envied them.
"Ummm, sir?" the red being spoke to him. He had forgotten all about him.
"Yeah?" he didn't much like the little imp. It had ruined many of his previous relationships.
"Can we eat yet?" it said in an eager voice. He was a pig. They had just eaten thirty minutes ago! He took out a wedge of bread from the cloth beside him and threw it at the thing. "Thanks!" it squealed, bread crumbs flew from its mouth.
He wished he could have left Mav at home, but alas, his father was against this. His father was against most everything Jared did. All except the idea that Jared should get to know the other world better. He was glad his father agreed to let him come.
The compass gleamed as the sun hit it. They were now going East toward the city of Hewter. Not exactly where he wanted to go, but Jared wouldn't know this until he reached the city; he still hadn't figured out how to read a map while sailing. He was just an inexperienced boy of fourteen.
