"Perfection" An Essay

Stress, something that pesters at every single one of us, it makes even the most annoying younger sibling seem quite cute, and kind. But why do we put up with it? Why do we bottle it? Stress seems like something like that should be realesed, but anyone who knows me realizes how hypocritical a statement that is because I am a perfect example of what happens when you bottle up stress; yet we do anyway? Why?

It seems that our want for perfection has become so great that we are willing to feel horrible, as long as we look good to the rest of the world. If something looks perfect, it must be perfect, inside and out. It might explain why we love hearing about celebrities messing up, for it is the imperfections in those who are supposedly perfect. It shows us that they are human, and bleed just as red as us.

Is it worth the sacrafice? Is the stress worth the lie of "perfection"?

No. Stress is not worth a lie.

When you take on stress willingly in order for others to falsel believe you are perfect, you don't make yourself closer to perfection. Isn't your own happiness a better goal to pursue? The fact is that you are pursuing your own happiness when you try to make yourself appear perfect, because you believe that will make you happy. But that will only put you in perpetual stress because it doesn't bring you closer to your real goal: happiness. There is no indirect route to happiness, but people often operate under the illusion that it can be found in money, glamor or other material things. Do what is best for yourself, and learn to not let what others think of you affect your happiness. That may be difficult, but it can truly be done. On the other hand, it is impossible to truly be happy when your happiness relies on the fact that others believe you are "perfect", when you know you are not. No happiness can be found in lies.
