Japanese Whaling

Since 1987 Japan have conducted scientific research on whales. They set out on an expedition annually and return with lots of dead whales. Many people think that the Japanese conduct no research and just sell the meat of whales to make a profit.

Many countries debate on this issue, daily. One of these groups that rebel against the Japanese, is called Greenpeace. They will go so far as to rescue the whales, even when they are already caught, and are being winched up onto the boat.

Ten years ago, the world agreed to stop whaling. Now that the whales are back in larger numbers Japan want to start massive scale whaling. A few years ago, more people wanted whaling to stop, as to save the whales. But at the moment, more people want massive scale whaling, as they can benefit from the money. Australasian people are debating against this, with all their might, as the whales are native their land. They do not want people killing their creatures.

Lots of people want whales for dead because in Japan they serve whale for lunch and it tastes pretty nice. So Japanese people will grow up learning that eating whale is good because that is how they have been taught. Also in class, they have puppet shows, where they say that eating whale is good.

Even though Japan has convinced other countries to resume large scale whaling, they are unable to persuade members of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to let them whale, internationally.

I think that we should not allow whaling to resume, as countries will become feverish and take too many whales. We should let them regain their pods and create big clans so that they will not become extinct.

    Well written

I thought this was very well written, and you obviously find this subject interesting. I think it is sad the Japanese think that way. You should write to your local newspaper or promote this in some way. The more people know about this issue the better. Keep writing, Meggh xxxxxxxxxxxx

I liked what it was about, seeing as how I know nothing about whaling. However, I didn't think you supported you case as well as you could have. Like, you made it sound like all Japenese were pro-whaling but you didn't give any countries that are anti-whaling or any others that are for it. Still, it gave me more information that I knew about whaling before, and I liked that it is a different sort of thing to write about. *Please review my story 'Waiting Rooms and Worry'*
