Dreaming

Dreaming 1

I walk to the window and peer out. 2

Outside it’s warm and sunny. 3

It’s cool inside the house 4

and the light in the room is dim. 5

I long to go outside and feel 6

the warm sunshine on my face, 7

But my feet seem to be planted 8

in the soft carpet of the floor. 9

My body is frozen in place.  I’m drifting away….10

----11

How much fun it would be to walk, frolic and talk to the wild animals. 12

Even if they couldn’t speak back to me, 13

I can understand them. 14

And they can understand me. 15

I go outside–the deer, the birds, the rabbits, 16

and all other creatures recognize me. 17

The deer see me, walk up to me. 18

I reach out to stroke the smooth fur, 19

and the little deer cuddle in my arms. 20

----21

Robins and bluebirds come sit on my shoulder. 22

I tickle their small tummies. 23

I hear little chirps–their giggles of happiness!!!  24

----25

The rabbits notice the excitement and get curious.  26

Bounding into view, they hop up to my ankles, 27

and put their small paws on my bare feet. 28

I scratch their ears and pet their soft, furry backs. 29

I pick one up and kiss it’s little, wiggling nose. 30

----31

They ask me to play a game of hide-and-seek among the trees. 32

When we’re out of breath, we go for a stroll looking 33

for honeysuckles and sweet berries. 34

We laugh and play among the bright flowers. 35

I’m carefree and free as the birds are to fly. 36

----37

A deer and an eagle rush towards the group. 38

They have a surprise for me. What could it be? 39

I climb on the deer’s back and the hummingbird leads the way. 40

We’re moving swiftly among the worn paths in the woods; 41

the others follow close behind. 42

We approach a little cave and slow down. 43

I dismount the deer’s back and the eagle perches 44

above the entrance and bows his head. 45

----46

Inside is a breathtaking sight. A little torch is lit on the wall. 47

On a bed of soft grass and sweet flowers slumbers another animal. 48

A young horse of the purest white rests quietly. 49

Her front hooves tucked under her belly, 50

but one back hoof sticks out: a bronze in the light reflects back. 51

Two small, white, feathery wings are folded against her sides. 52

There’s a little gold star marking on her forehead. 53

Right above the marking, a small, pointed horn protrudes from her head. 54

In the dim light, she stirs, and the horn glitters and sparkles with gold. 55

I walk quietly towards her and place my hand on her beautiful, tangled, white mane. 56

Slowly, she awakes and looks at me sleepily with her lovely blue eyes. 57

I stroke her head lovingly and she buries her nose in my arms. 58

----59

A peculiar looking piece of bark by the gentle animal’s side60

catches my eye.  61

It’s white with black specs–birch bark.  62

On it is a message written with a pink dust in a peculiar handwriting. 63

For a long time, we’ve watched how you play with the animals. By what we’ve observed, we know how much you adore them and would do anything for them. We also know that it would be a dream come true for you to take care of one of these special animals that you see before you. We agreed that you have proven to us that you deserve a creature like the one before you. We also know how thankful you would be to have your wish fulfilled to have such an animal, therefore, we give you this magnificent creature for your own. We trust that you will take care of her and love her so that she may grow healthy and strong. In return for caring for her, she will gladly help you out whenever you need her or are in trouble. Treat her well, and she will always be your companion and be there for you wherever you go. 64

Signed, 65

The elves and the fairies.66

-67

What a blessing to be given such a creature! 68

If only I could thank them. 69

But I can…I can be the best that I can be for my animal!!70

I look up and see her looking back at me. 71

Tears of joy fill my eyes. 72

----73

I help my new animal to her feet 74

and we walk outside with the other animals following. 75

In the sunlight, my unicorn looks so brilliant. 76

Her eyes are bright, her hooves gleam, and her horn shimmers. 77

She is truly a magnificent sight to behold. 78

I make a crown of flowers for my unicorn, 79

and a crown for me. 80

I hug her neck and she nudges me playfully. 81

Colors and images start to blur and disappear. 82

My eyes focus and I see the window before me. 83

Sounds around me bring me back to reality. 84

I blink a few times and step away from the window. 85

Too bad it’s only a wishful daydream. 86

Author notes

This is actually based on a brief true childhood daydream experience I had. I just put it down in words once I was old enough to find the perfect word choice for what I had thought.

Yes, it really was. I honestly don't remember what age I was, but it was a daydream that I once had, which stuck with me for so many years for some reason, until I finally discovered the art of writing poetry and stories and was finally able to express it in written words.
Thank you for reading... I am so glad you enoyed it!
