I flicked my tail and sniffed the air. A gentle breeze ruffled my fur and sent shudders through me. The forest was silent.
Something wet suddenly pressed against me. I turned suddenly and saw Blane nuzzling my side. I nuzzled him back and then turned back to the forest. Blane stepped in front of me, his nose pointed up to the sky. His tail flicked in my face. I growled softly and leapt onto his back, but he moved at the last moment and I crashed to the ground. When I recovered, I looked up, but Blane was gone. I heard a faint crash to the left of me and I got up quickly and followed the sound.
I came to a clearing and stood still, eyes closed, listening. I could hear nothing, so I switch to scent. Blane was near. Suddenly a huge weight landed on my back, and I once again fell to the ground. I looked up and saw Blane’s cool blue eyes staring at me. His tongue was hanging out. I kicked him off of me. I was still ‘it’. Blane backed away, gave me a once over, and then ran off again. I crept behind a bush and began my Change. I tried to cover up my moans and groans, but some escaped.
When I was finished, I lay still, regaining my breath.
I heard a rustle of a bush. Blane was back to check on me. I saw a muzzle poke through the bush I was behind. I slowly reached up and took hold of Blane’s head, and pulled him to the ground next to me. He yelped and stood over me. His eyes were narrowed, glaring at me.
‘Don’t give me that look,’ I told him. His face relaxed and he tilted his head, questioning. I sighed and rolled my eyes. I sat up, pushing Blane off of me. Blane licked my face and then ran off to do his Change. I stood by a tree and waited for him.
When he returned he put his arms around me, his face very close to mine.
‘Do you want to go now?’ he asked. I thought about it then shook my head. I loved being outside in the wild.
‘Why? Do you?’ I asked. He shook his head, ‘Good,’ I replied laying my head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head. We stood like that for almost an hour, our naked bodies sharing the heat. Eventually it got to cold for even Werewolves, and we decided to find our clothes and go home.
As soon as we drove up the driveway, I sensed something was wrong. Blane sensed it too. We quickly got out the car and jogged to the house. We lived with our pack, all five of us. We were like a big family, except I was the only female, but I’ll come back to that.
I slowly pushed open the door, but it fell from its hinges. I yelped and jumped back. Blane put his hands on my shoulders.
‘Do you want to stay outside?’ he asked. I shook my head.
‘It would be safer if we stuck together,’ I told him, regaining my breath. He nodded and stepped into our house. The lights were off. The walls were splattered with blood and had huge dents in them, as if someone had been thrown into them. I walked into the kitchen. Plates and dishes were smashed on the floor. There was blood on the floor and as I walked around the table, I saw a hand. My breath caught, and I stopped.
‘Blane?’ I called softly. I heard him run to the room. He saw the damaged and sighed, but then he saw that I was not looking at the damage, but to something on the floor. He walked around the table, past me and saw the body.
‘Its okay, not one of ours,’ he told me. I suddenly could breath again and joined Blane to examine the body. It was a mutt – a none pack Werewolf. We had a lot of trouble with these people. They can’t control their Changes and like to feast on humans. I crouched down beside the body and checked for a pulse. There wasn’t one, but he was still warm. I looked for a cause of death. I couldn’t see one. The mutt was quite young, probably around twenty, but it was hard to tell with us because we aged slowly. He had short brown hair and nice tanned skin. I turned over his head and saw a huge dent there. I looked up and saw the corner of the table had blood dripping from it. Well that explains why he died. I stood back up again, bit wobbly though. Blane steadied me and then we went through to the other rooms. They were all empty but they all had blood in them, apart from the bedrooms. Once we had finished our search, Blane and I both collapsed on the couch, trying to avoid any bloodstains. The stench of blood made my nose tingle, and soon I could bear it no longer. I stood up and walked into the kitchen. I stepped over the body and opened a cupboard, took out some cleaning stuff and began cleaning each room. Blane helped a little, but then he decided he should get rid of the body. He put it in the boot of the car but refused to leave me alone here while he went to dispose of it, so he tried to find something for us to eat. We were used to death, so it didn’t surprise us that much anymore, so deciding to eat sound pretty normal to me.
Eventually I finished cleaning every room. My back was aching and my hands were numb. I was exhausted and could barely get into the car.
I helped lift the body out of the car, but I had to sit while Blane dug a deep hole. We had brought the body out into the countryside and it was the early hours of the morning, so we wouldn’t get caught, hopefully.
When Blane had finished digging, we pushed the body into the grave and then walked back up to the car in silence. Where was our pack? Were they alive or dead? Would Blane and I be taken next?
