The Audubon Society today voiced it's outrage at Old King Kole's royal banquet, stating that a dish served at the banquet was cruel and inhumane treatment of birds. According to witnesses, twenty-four blackbirds were baked alive in a pie crust.2
"It was barbaric." said one Audubon Society member who was present. "when the pie was opened, the birds began to scream frantically! It was the cruelest thing I have ever seen!"3
The Labor Board added it's own criticism to the royal banquet, claiming that the cooks were not paid nearly enough. According to sources, the staff for the banquet were paid "Sixpence, and a pocketful of rye".4
Old King Kole was unavailable for comment.5

Don't know if this is humour or horror lol It would be horror if I was there to witness the birds screaming inside a pie, but because I'm just reading it, I go to humour

And they say Old King Cole was a merry old soul. Well I beg to differ. Anyonw willing to cook live blackbirds in a pie must be very sinister indeed! Funny tale. -

LOL, I always wondered why the birds were still singing after they had been baked. How cruel! I wonder what makes these tales continue to mesmerize generation after generation. THis was a great entry. Good luck
