Chapter four
Furniture was his first love and would always be. Growing up in El Cajon was a pain with all the noise and smog. He hated it. So moving out of the area was the only option. He met Ryan back in high school; he was skinny as heck and didn’t know how to do anything. Gav was good at football and Ryan was good at math, and oddly enough he had the highest grade in his home economics class. They hit it off immediately and had been friends ever since. They had fights here and there but never over anything big.
The worst fight was back in grade 11 when they both had the hots for Megan Hawkins. Things heated up when Gav went and asked her to prom. Ryan got really mad and it ended up with a fist fight in the middle of the main hall. They were both suspended for a week and neither of them got to go to the prom. Last he heard Megan Hawkins was married with three kids, go figure.
He was sitting in his shop sanding down a chair from a dining room set, which to him seemed pointless because his mind was on other matters. He couldn’t get her out of his mind and it was driving him crazy. She wouldn’t be over to clean for a couple more days and he hadn’t seen her since Tuesday, when he made a total fool of himself. He figured he go for a drive it was lunch time anyways.
He started driving toward the other end of town. He drove past Mario’s and thought of getting lunch but didn’t want to run into hale and get the third degree. He like the old man he was a character though. He was sure he would be read his right if he walked in there. He wondered why Hale was so protective of Madison it didn’t make much sense unless they were related or something but if they were related why didn’t he know her before?
He decided to pick up a sandwich from Jaco’s the little family owned place at the edge of the city. He got his sandwich and sat down to eat. Jaco’s daughter was recently divorced. She was in a pretty bad relationship from what he heard but she was definitely back on the prowl. She had always been the kind of woman to throw herself at a man and not stop until she got what she wanted.
He was very attractive she decided, she had seen him around from time to time, but never got to really talk to him. She decided he would be a nice choice for her date to the community dance coming up next week. She went and sat down across from him.
“Hey there, I’ve seen you in here before but I don’t believe I’ve introduced myself, I’m Emily Schnick”
He looked up at her, she was wearing an overly revealing top but hey he couldn’t complain about that.
“Hi, Emily I’m Gavin, you could call me Gav.”
“Is that like a pet name?” she leaned forward a little bit.
Now she was being overly flirtatious and it was making him a bit uncomfortable. At that moment he heard the jingle of the door meaning someone just came in. he turned to see Madison’s cheery face walking in. He stood up quickly maybe too quickly.
She saw him stand up and walked over to his table. She saw the young busty woman sitting at the table.
“Who’s this Gavin?”
“Ummm the girl who works here Emily” he looked down at his shoes.
“Oh well its nice to meet you Emily”
She turned and walked to the counter to order her sandwich. She knew she shouldn’t be jealous after all wasn’t it her who just yesterday claimed they weren’t serious or anything. But still it upset her that he had the nerve to sit and have lunch with another woman. When she walked over with her sandwich and sat at the table Gav was left standing by.
“Are you going to sit down or what”
“Well you’re obviously mad at me so I might as well just go back to work.” He answered
“Well I have good reason…”
“Good reason my ass you just come in here and assume that what you see is actually something its not”
“Its not every day that I walk into a restaurant a nd find the guy who was begging me to be his girlfriend the day before, with some underdressed bimbo blonde”
“Well I had to watch last night as nasty grubby men gave you looking overs”
He knew the comment he threw back sounded a little childish, but what else could he say he worried about her.
“Your just an asshole so goodbye Gavin”
With that she got up from the table leaving her sandwich and walked out the door. Damn it you’ve done it this time he thought. Emily walked out from the back .
“Oh no you don’t you stay away from me”
“I was just coming to say sorry, I didn’t know you were involved with somebody else…”
“You didn’t give me much time to tell you but I have a feeling I have to go after her or shell probably never talk to me again. Bye Emily”
“Bye Gavin”
He grabbed Madison’s sandwich and walked out of the restaurant.
Please tell me what you think
