The Vampyre and her Cousin

As soon as Keira stepped out of the door a horrendous gale blew. The jet black sky randomly scattered with few stars was flickering uncontrollably, like a light bulb ready to blow. Then the silence came, along with the eeriness you get when in a usually crowded place that’s now deserted. If anybody was around at that moment the sight would have been phenomenal. But no one was.2

“Leigh, Leigh!”3

“What?”4

“Phone, it’s cousin.”5

“Ok, ok, be down in a sec!”6

“Hello?”7

“Hey, it’s Keira.”8

“Oh, hey, so, whats up?”9

“I wanted to tell you first, but not over the phone.”10

“Tell me what?”11

“Shut up and listen. Meet me in the park at nine tonight.”12

Keria hung up, leaving Leigh confused, anxious and excited.13

The day was going too slow for her. She was getting restless, so she decided to meet up with a few mates and hope for time to fly by.  She grabbed her jacket, ran out the door and sped down the road. 14

Accomanied by a crash,  she found her self suddenly on the floor. Dazed and confused Leigh got up. She put her hand to her lip. It was covered in crimson. 15

“Are you ok?” A short, shy boy asked. 16

“What do you think?”17

“Maybe you should look where you’re going.”18

“Arrrggh, the least you can do is get me a drink!19

The shy kid brought out a glass of water. “I’m Adam.”20

“Leigh, well, it’s actually Kayleigh."                                                              Now Leighs lip had stopped bleeding, but it was pretty swollen. “Well, thanks for the help. But I gotta go.”21

“Ok then, if you’re sure, I’ll see ya round.”22

She went straight home after that, her lip now a small balloon, to get the ice pack. It stung like hell, but it helped, at least she’d wasted some time.23

Time had gone much quicker after that. She didn’t go out in the end, instead she: listened to music, did some homework and watched ‘Dog Soldiers’.24

By the time she’d done all that it was half eight. She tied back her long, sandy hair, pulled on her denim jacket, climbed on her bike and went off, this time slower, down the road.25

It was extremely windy and her hair flew out behind her, like long, dark fingers trying to pull her in the opposite direction. 26

There was a strange feeling in the atmosphere, something was different, but Leigh couldn’t figure out what. She was near the park now, she could just make out the slide, but that was only because the moon was reflecting off it, creating an eerie glow. In the midst of that glow was a silhouette.27

“Keira!”28

“Jeez, you took your time, didn’t you?”29

“Yeah, I’m sorry, I got held up.”30

“Yeah, whatever.”31

“I did! Anyway, why’d you drag me out here?32

“Follow me, leave your bike behind the slide.”33

Leigh did as she was told and followed Keira into the woods. “Why are we here?”34

“Shut up and follow, it’s not far now.”35

After about 5 minutes Keira stopped, they were about 50 yards away from a huge clearing. “Shh, just watch, don’t follow me if I move, it would be too dangerous.”36

She walked into the clearing leaving Leigh in amongst the trees.37

She sat there for about 20 minutes and was getting terribly bored. She was just about to get up and ask Keira why she was sitting there, when all of a sudden the wind blew harder and giant forks of lightening came plumeting towards the ground. With this light Leigh could see Keira’s dark red hair, long, black leather coat, black velvet dress and ghostly white face, but the thing that really freaked Leigh out was the glowing red eyes and long, white fangs. She was a vampyre.38

Leigh had forgotten everything Keira had told her previously and ran into the clearing.39

“Keira!”40

Keira turned sharply, stared Leigh in the eyes and, with extreme power, knocked her backwards.41

“She warned you.” Came a voice behind her.42

“Adam? What are-“43

“I am the leader, I made Keira what she is now. And seeing as you disobeyed her you’re going to have to sacrafice your life.”44

“But, what? Why?”45

“Any mortal that disobeys a vampyre without just cause has to die. Pretty simple rules, but it’s suprising how many people can break them.”46

Keira came up to her, “I’m sorry.”  It was all she could say.47

Opening her mouth, Keira sunk her razor fangs into Leighs neck and bled her dry. 48

Adam and Keira carried Leighs pale, limp body to the slide, laying her down under the great moon above and left a black rose in her grip. Keira sat there for a while, thinking how stupid she’d been, picking her favourite cousin to show her something and knowing that she was going to have to kill her. She couldn’t live with knowing this for the rest of eternity.49

She flew upwards towards the moon in a sudden fit of rage shrieking like a banshee, then came hurtling  downwards, heading straight for the ground and landed with tremendus force on her neck, breaking it, killing herself instantly.50

Adam was in shock after seeing a member of a vampyre clan killing themselves over a mere mortal, but knew that the love she had for her cousin was stronger than anything he’s ever known. He dragged Keira and lay her next to Leigh then flew off into the welcoming darkness of the night, leaving the world to their imagination as to why Leigh and Keira were dead.51

But of course, no one knew the true reason.52
