Ugly Betty [short]

For those who watch or watched Ugly Betty...

I walked to work, my grilled-cheese sandwhich in one hand and my paper work in the other. I was a mess and I felt ill.

I finally reached Mode and dumped everything on my desk. I heard a giggle behind me. I turned and saw Mark laughing at me. I frowned and looked at myself. I couldn't find anything wrong, so I shrugged and carried on sorting through my junk. I suddenly heard a huge shriek of laughter. I spun around and saw Mark and Amanda laughing, pointing at me. I was getting really angry, and I was already in a bad mood. I walked over to them.

'What? What is so funny?' I asked.

'No-nothing!' Mark sputtered out. Amanda slapped my back.

'Yeah, it's nothing...,' she glanced at Mark and smiled, '...'ugly'!' They both started to laugh again. I threw up my hands and stormed into Daniel's office.

'Betty, just the girl I wanted to see,' he told me smiling.

'I'm sorry I'm late Daniel, it's just I was up late last night and I woke up with a stuffy nose and a sore throa-' I began but Daniel cut me off.

'Betty, it's fine. Everyone is late once in a while. Just don't make a big deal about it. Now, what's happening first?' he asked me turning to look out the window of his office.

'Well, first you have a meeting with Gloria Price, owner of Issabella. That's at 2:30. Then you have a meeting with your father, at...4. The rest is just sorting out this weeks Mode magazine,' I told him. I he nodded. Then he turned round and looked at me.

'You seem kind of...ill? You should take the day off, I can handle it,' he told me.

'Really? Thank you Daniel, I really need a day off!' I laughed, then sniffed. I smiled and turned to walk out of his office.

'Wait! Betty, you um...,' Daniel said coming over and reaching for my back. He took off a piece of paper, which had been stuck to it. It read 'just call me ugly'.

'Mark and Amanda...' I whispered.

'What?' Daniel asked, not hearing me. I took the piece of paper and marched out of his office. I went straight to the reception and slammed down the paper. Amanda smiled at it.

'You did this, didn't you!' I shouted at her.

'It was just a joke, Betty,' she told me shrugging, a smile smirked on her face. Just then, a woman walked past.

'Hi, ugly,' she murmered while walking past me. Amanda giggle.

'This is not funny, Amanda!' I yelled.

'Betty, don't cause a scene. You already have enough attention...ugly,' she laughed again.

'Oh, well if it isn't Betty,' I heard Mark say behind me. I took the paper off of Amanda's desk and slammed it onto Mark's chest. It stuck to his shirt. Then I marched out of the office and headed home. I was in a really bad mood now and my nose was blocked. I really needed a coffee and a lie down...
