The Demon, Chapter 1 (work in progress)

1

          Tears started to fill Jaimie's eyes.  She couldn’t hold them back any longer.  She was facing what she dreaded most.  The demon that had haunted her nightmares and cursed her life for way to long.   She was facing what she had created and what she knew must be destroyed.  Her grip tightened as she  drew her sword, she knew what must be done.2

It was a cold black night and fog was rolling over the castle grounds.  The large courtyard looked dead, nothing grew and the walls were crumbling to the ground.  Two large black iron gates stood half ajar, rusting off their hinges.  And the malice of a huge dead oak gave the grounds a deadly feel.  The crimson moon peeked unwillingly through the dark clouds which embraced it.  It’s light falls over Jamie, the tree, and those old rusted gates.3

As Jaime stared across the courtyard, she could see the wreck of what used to be a monumental castle.  In it’s dark shadows fell great luxurious steps that lead down into a large cemetery.  It was filled with old stone tombs, head stones and magnificent hand crafted statues from one wall in the courtyard to the next.  In the center of all the fallen stones and stone people was a dried fountain.  It was an angel with wings spread and hands lifted high.  Yet, most noticeable was the water stains from it’s eyes where water used to flow and one marble carved tear on her cheek.  This is where the demon lie in wait.  At the foot of this angel like some faithful watch dog.4

Jamie stood as still as the statue facing the demon, her demon.  As it clawed from the shadows, she stared in to it’s dark eyes.  "Blacker then the blackest pit of hell."  Seemed rang through her head.  It’s face filled with rage, two sharp teeth were revealed from it’s lower lips with every hiss and every snarl.  It drew it’s long sharp nails across the base of the stone angel.  Jaime's eyes fell on those claws.  She noticed that they where twice as long as it’s thin horrid fingers.  Her sight flowed over it’s sleek black arm to where its long tail rose up, to an steel razorsharp tip that twitched just above the beast's dark pointed ears.  The only thing that stood out more then it’s two perfect white teeth were.  The two thin white lines that encircle it’s midnight black eyes.  These narrowed as it bared a thin twisted sadstic smile, if it could be called a smile.5

Jamie stood hard, "It’s my fault, it has to die." she thought.  She stood trying ignore all the emotions flooding through her, ranning her hands round the hilt of her sword.  It’s blade was resting in the dead grass ready to jump at her whim.  Jamie long blond hair flew in the wind, falling around her crystal blue eyes catching her tears.  A short silky red dress flowing with her hair was cut to come just above her right knee.6

She could feel her soul empty a little with ever tear drop that fell.  She had become fond of her monster, her demon.  It had once given her everything, everthing she thought she had ever needed or ever wanted.  But now, it was going to destroy her and everything dear to her.  Now she wanted it dead, she wanted revenge, "sweet revenge" she whispered.

          "Jamie, Jamie,"10

"Huh?"   she said as she looked up from her empty glass.  Oh I’m sorry I’ve been... Ah, well, distracted."11

"Anything I can do?"  Ask the kind dark haired gentlemen sitting across from her. His hair was slicked back and he was wearing a dark black three piece suit.  The first thing Jamie noticed when she looked up was his bright charming smile.  "Would you like another?"  he ask.12

"Another?"  said Jamie looking bewildered13

"Another drink?"  said the man as he looked at her empty glass.14

Jamie just shook her head, she never drank much anyways.  Looking around she saw the band getting their intruments ready for another classical piece.  At a table across from the stage she sees a waiter cleaning up a spill.  While the host apologizes to a very elagent lady, who was now wearing a newly stained white fur coat.  15

"How long have you been in the city?"  she half heartedly asks.16

"It’s been about six months."  There was something calm and cool about his voice.  Something confident.  "But as you know most of that was training for my new job.  Yet, still I love this city.  It’s such a beautiful place."17

Jamie froze for a moment, "Beautiful?"  she thought.  "I’ve lived her so long, that I almost forgot this city had any beauty at all.  " She could see her dates eyes trace over her figure.  Self-consciously she pulled down ger short red dress, eventhough it was hidden under the table.18

Then he started again  "I think there’s a lot of beauty in this city."

          "Sweet revenge."  rolled though her head. Then the demon lunged, it’s claws out spread.  Surprised, Jamie fell back.  She could’t think, her sword flung from her hands and she screamed.  The dark figure landed, hands first, in font of where Jamie lay.  She scrambled back, fighting to get to her feet.  "No," rang through her head, "not like this."  The monster slowly crawled forward.21

The sword was gleaming in the crimson moon light,  shimmering just a few feet from her.  Jamie rolled back and almost instinctively slid her hands over the hilt.  She rolled to her knees, the sword pointed from her like an arrow ready to fly.

          "I’ve always loved the nights here.  There so, well, so alive."24

"Huh,"  said Jamie as she thought.  "Alive, what does he know of being alive?"  she stared out the window at the night sky.25

"I’ve always wanted to travel.  To see the sights,"  He said in a kind of monotone voice.  "And met new and interesting people."26

Jamie had noticed how his tone and demeanor had completely changed at "new and interesting."

          And the demon started to run.  It lunged once again.  This time Jamie thrust her sword forward and forced all of her body into the blow.  But the creature was too fast. It easily knocked the sword to the side with its long claws and reached for her throat.29

          "So, you always pick up girls from lower departments, on your."  she paused,  "business trips?" 31

"What?"  she seemed to have struck a nerve,  "ah no, what I mean to say is..." His voice was fast and stringy.  He took a moment to compose himself.  "What I mean is I’m always happy to met new friends. " As he flashed that prince charming smile, though still feeling a little on guard.32

"I believe what you mean is new prospects,"  Jamie looked enraged.  "I’m not just another girl for your secretaries list,"  as she took a deep breath,  "or whatever they’re called now-a-days."33

Then with a deep sigh the man shook his head, "Okay, okay, I can see you’ve been hurt.  I understand, but please I’m not at all what you think.  I know you’re beautiful and you get this all the time. But,"
34

~~~~~~~~~35
          Once more she saw that hideous smile, reviling two rows of jagged pointed teeth.  Like a shark before the feast, the demon grined.  By now the demon razored fingers had sliced through her blouse and chest alike.  A long, snake like hiss echoed from behind those teeth.  Scared, truly scared as Jamie never know before.  All that crossed her mind was, "it’s on top of me, it’s in control!"  Though her sword was only inches away it felt worlds apart. 36
Any who, I love to read this and I think that it would be awesome to read more of this piece. As you can tell, I don't write any stories, so I love to read yours! I think that I still have yet to read them all. This is a very anticipating one, you keep me in suspense the whole time!
    omg this was WOW. Your descriptiveness just has me floored. The way you describe each detail just brings the imagery totally alive in my head and I felt like I was living the nightmare along with her. I need to read it again because I'm not sure I have the connection yet between the demon and her date or her, but this is truely a materpiece so far. You have such a talent for stories and this one is just brilliant... I can't wait to read more of it!
