UnSeelie Dreams V

Hot tears ran down his cheeks cleansing away some of the dirt caked there. The wings fluttered then grew still against his face sinking deep into him.

Soon he began to notice that the insect stopped moving, he relaxed and let go the tight grip on the vines binding him and slowly they released their grip on him. He slid silently to the earth and lay still.

He didn't want to think or feel anymore, just go deep inside and remain in the abyss of his soul. Nothing could touch him there, he assumed or at least hoped that nothing could get to him while sheltered in his own darkness.

Suddenly he found himself standing on a high cliff overlooking an undulating midnight sea, its waves caressing the jagged rocks. The hunter's moon stood full and high casting its enchantment on the realm below.

The gentle lapping soothed his own tattered spirit. He dropped to his knees and was held enthralled for minutes or was it eons. There was no time here.

Anticipation filled him as he continued to wait, but the day never came, no morning light shone on the horizon, only the moon and eternity of water. Finally, he rose from where he knelt and began the trech down moors. He didn't know where he was or even if he was still alive, or where he was going, it was just best to keep moving for nothing ever grew in limbo.

He picked up his pace as the ground sloped beneath his feet, the moors darkened becoming more green with life with each step despite the lack of sunlight. At the bottom stood an orchard with trees that ran as far as the eye could see.

He paused on the path when he reached them. Barely any light from the moon shone through to the path below, yet tiny blue lights danced about the limbs. You must move forward, a voice spoke inside his head, follow the path but do not go toward the lights.

The path was narrow, just a small line with areas of wild flowers and fallen leaves. Large ancient roots jutted from the ground and into the path, so he had to step over them or trip. The lights teased him, playing with his periphrial vision, if he tried to look straight at them, catch them, they would disappear and reappear in other places.

He walked like a hunter, studying the trees and the way, watching for animal sign, as he tried to ignore the lights. They weaved around him, attempting to blind him, confuse him but never touched the path. Their attacks were making him feel sick and dizzy but he kept moving, the moon never changing over head, and the path appeared to get narrower and narrower with each step.

The imagery and the way you handle such a short story is truly amazing.

    It's pure magic.

This is the first item of yours I've read and am wanting to see what else is coming from your imagination.

It has a flavor of a role-playing game, but that's not quite right either. A real person of magic that is role-playing? That make sense?

At any rate, it really is good.
