Vampyre

It was at that instant that Jordyn knew she would not be leaving this room alive.

"I can't believe that I've gotten myself into this situation." She said to herself.

"All the training, the preparation, it amounts to nothing after tonight."

What would her family think? Would they be proud that she went down fighting for their glory? Or would they be disappointed that she had failed after all she had been taught by them and the clan?

"Are you ready for you're fate to finally catch up to you?" He whispered in a low growling voice, that was still so melodic it sounded like the peal of a thousand church bells.

She looked up at the beautiful man standing across the room from her. He looked like a model you might find in an ad for underwear. His shining blonde hair not losing any of its luster here in the dim light. His perfect lips curled up in a terrible smiling sneer. His perfect topaz eyes shining like his hair. His muscular frame slightly crouched in a pose that gave away he was ready and willing to pounce. His perfection did not give away any hint of what he actually was.

A vampire.

A very, very powerful one at that. Jaden was one of the oldest of his kind and Jordyn had been hunting him as long as she had been a part of the Pyre clan.

"Well, what are you going to do?" She thought to herself.

As she saw it she had two choices, neither of which would be easy.

First, she could use all the skill and tricks she had learned from long nights of training with the clan. She could try to defeat the monster that stood before her waiting for her decision. She could try and most likely fail miserably.

Her second choice would be to give in to what Jaden had so lightly referred to as fate. She didn't think she could do that. She had always hated his kind, ever since what had happened to her family long ago.

She did not want to die, nor did she want to become one of them. Both of which were options, depending on whether or not he decided to kill her.

Then she realized she did not have time to contemplate any longer, as he threw himself at her, teeth bared almost too fast for her to react to.

She threw caution to the wind as she snatched the knife from its sheath by the small of her back. She sliced upward as his lunge brought him close to her.

Miss.

What had she expected. She flinched as pain shot through her as his punch hit the arm holding her knife into her shoulder. The searing pain caused her mind to blur momentarily. Good thing she had been training for five years and was considered one of the best in the clan. It's a very good thing or that cut could have been more serious.

She turned as his momentum carried him past her and slashed, landing a glancing swipe into his unprotected back. She knew it wouldn't amount to much, he would heal from such a small wound in a matter of seconds.

He swung back to face her with a short hiss.

"So it's going to be that way is it?." He said in his ringing voice.

"Wouldn't have it any other way would you Jaden?" Jordyn said with a grin.

"Never." He responded as he lunged again.

This time he didn't hit her with just a glancing blow. She took the full force of his kick to the stomach, throwing her backwards across the room and into the wall. The wind was definitely knocked out of her this time.

"Can't take another hit like that." She thought as she gasped for breath.

As she struggled to get up he was already at her side holding her throat with both hands.

"Here it comes, the end." She thought with dejection.

But her fighting instincts wouldn't let her give up. Another voice screamed at her from inside her head.

"You're going to give up that easily? After all your training? You're better than this. You can kill him. You have to kill him if you want to get out of here alive."

She was about to pull her knee upwards to hit him in the gut when he suddenly squeezed her neck even harder.

"Ah ah ah, none of that now." He chuckled, with at smile on his face.

"Oh, thats right." She said. "You can read minds."

"Good, you remembered." He jeered, teeth glistening.

Something then came crashing through the window hitting Jaden in the side and throwing him to the ground. He was up in an instant grappling with someone Jordyn couldn't see.

"I don't think so Jaden, she's mine." Jordyn heard a female voice just as melodic as Jaden's say.

"Then you'll have to fight me for her, Athena." Jaden sneered at her.

"Don't worry, I intend to." Said the beautiful woman holding him by the shirt. Jordyn could see her now. She was just as beautiful as him but with jet black hair and emerald eyes. She then threw herself at him, tackling him and carrying on through the wall of the room and outside.

"I think that's my cue to exit, and fast!" Jordyn thought as she strained to get up from the floor.

She dashed out the newly made hole in the wall resheathing her knife in the process. She looked around searching for the brawling couple. She didn't know how the fight would end and at the present moment she didn't care. She couldn't see them anywhere so she ran in the direction of her car.

When she reached her flat black Corvette she jumped in the driver's seat, turned the key and hit the bright red start button. It was only when she heard the 505 horsepower V-8 rumble to life that she realized she was holding her breath.

"Good thing I got the Z-06." She thought with relief. "I'll need the speed to put as much room between me and them as possible."

She threw it in first and stomped on the gas pedal. The tires spun freely as she swung it around to go back the way she came earlier. With that she was away from the warehouse where she had nearly been killed, or worse changed into a vampire. The only time she let up on the gas was to shift the six speed transmission. As she disappeared into the night she was glad to be away from the two leeches, at least for now.

The black Corvette pulled into a driveway and parked next to a candy-apple red Mustang. Jordyn jumped out and immediately ran inside.

"Good, Alana's here." She said out loud with relief.

Alana was Jordyn's older sister, at least in the clan sense. She had no biological family left anymore. Alana was considered the best in the clan, short of their mother Juliet. Alana would know what to do now.

Jordyn dashed inside the clan living house and went immediately to look for Alana in her bedroom. She didn't bother knocking as she pushed the door open quickly.

"Alana, are you in here?" She almost shouted.

"In the bathroom." Alana's voice from through the bathroom door said.

"Come in." Her voice said again.

When Jordyn opened the door and stood in the doorway, her sister looked at her with surprised and disapproving eyes.

"What happened to you?" She questioned chuckling a little bit.

"What do you mean?" Jordyn asked.

"You're an absolute mess." She stated lightly.

With that Jordyn ran to the mirror to look at herself so she could see the mess Alana referred to. She wasn't kidding. Her red, shoulder length hair was
tousled into what looked like a rat's nest. Her pale skin was flushed with adrenaline. Her white tank top had blood on it from where her shoulder had been bleeding, and her pants were covered in dirt from when she had hit the ground.

"I'm going to go clean up." Jordyn said. "After that I need to talk to you."

"I'll be in the kitchen." Alana said.

As Jordyn went to her bedroom to get changed she realized she hadn't slept in more than a day.

"Sleep will have to wait, until after I talk to Alana." She thought to herself.

When she got to her room she went to the bathroom and took a brief shower. She then began to don a set of clean clothes. She thought about what the coming day might bring, and decided to wear a pair of Levi's, along with a plain black tee, covered by a beige leather jacket. Under the jacket she put on her belt knife and around her ankle she put her other. After she had brushed through her cinnamon hair briskly she ran down the stairs to talk to Alana.

When she reached the kitchen Alana was making a pot of coffee up for them both.

"So where have you been all night, and what kind of trouble did you get yourself into?" Alana asked smiling again.

"I fought Jaden. Well, I don't know that you could really call it fighting. All I got in was one cut." Jordyn explained.

"Then how are you standing in front of me alive?" Asked Alana confused. "Jaden isn't known for leaving his enemies alive, or human if he decides against the first."

"Athena interupted." Jordyn said with a frown. "And I couldn't kill either of them. They took off outside so I got out of there as fast as I could."

"Why did Athena break into your fight? It's not like her to try to take on another of her kind. Especially Jaden, he's just as strong as her."

"I don't know why she would. That's why I came to talk to you, but it seems that you're just as confused about it as me."

"Yes, well, I think we should go and talk to Selena." She said perplexed.

"That's a good idea. Do you know where she is.

"Out hunting, where else." Alana sighed. "Then she'll be at the main house."

The main house was on the other side of town so they wouldn't all be in the same place if there was ever an attack at the clan.

"Ok, we'll take my car." Jordyn said grinning, as she headed for the door.

"You always want to take your car." Alana teased grinning back.

"I love my cars, everybody knows that." Jordyn said justifying.

"Yes you do." She said chuckling. That reminds me, I need you to look at my Mustang when you get a chance, it's been running rough." She said as they got into Jordyn's Corvette.

"I'll do that tomorrow." She replied as they drove off.
