San Diego California was too hot for its own good. It wasn’t even the summer and it was already steaming outside. The end of October is when its supposed to start getting cold out, but it was blazing.
Brittney fixed her hair in the bathroom mirror. She flipped it with the curling iron and smeared gloss onto her lips. It just occurred to her that she was in a serious, real relationship. She had a boyfriend, she was taken and she wasn’t supposed to look at any other guy. Admittedly, she did still find herself looking at the model guys on television. But that wasn’t wrong right? She was way more attracted to Brian anyway.
Mrs. Marino dropped Brittney off at school. Ever since she had started dating Brian, she felt much more confident. Someone thought she was beautiful, and that was enough to feel good about herself. And she realized that the better she felt about herself, the more people liked her. Even some of the popular girls.
She spotted Brian at his locker and she came up behind him, wrapping her arms around his middle. He turned around and hugged her. She was wearing a mini skirt today, with a tight shirt. She had never shown off her body, but it was time for a change. He kissed her forehead and smoothed her hair back lovingly.
There were a lot of things Brittney had to get used to when having a boyfriend. Like being waited on after class, and having someone run their fingers through her hair. She loved it, yes, but it was a funny feeling knowing somebody wanted her.
She felt fluttery when he held her. She felt loved when he called her on the weekends, just to say hey. She felt warm when they held hands on their walks and he touched her fingers. Her heart swelled inside her ribs when he kissed her forehead with so much passion. It was like she was living in a movie. All her life she watched movies wishing it was her, now there were people watching her, wishing it was them.
Mrs. Marino approved of Brian, but she wasn’t really happy that Brittney and him hung out so much. She always had this thought in her mind that they were doing something wrong. Brittney was careful, she had set boundaries. Brian and her both knew what not to do, and they never went past the boundary line. He respected her completely, and she respected him the same.
In the classroom, Brian sat all the way across the room. Brittney was attached, she realized. She felt sad when he wasn’t near her and sometimes she thought she was a little too attached. She wasn’t clingy though, she just wanted him all the time. Across the room, they smiled at each other and mouthed words without speaking. Sometimes she would blow him a kiss, and sometimes he would write her cute little notes and leave them in her notebook. Everything he did was immeasurably sweet.
.........................................................
Brian’s insides turned over when he looked at Brittney, or when she looked at him. Gazing into her pretty eyes made his heart throb. Touching her hands made goose bumps rise. There was only one thing they never got to do. One thing that he really wanted.
A kiss. The big kiss. They never had one. Besides the little kisses on the forehead or the cheeks, they had never given each other a real kiss. At first, he was scared to even think about. Scared he might not be good, scared she might not like it, scared he would mess up. But now, they were so attached that it didnt matter. If they were going to be embarrassed about their first kiss, he would want to be embarrassed with her.
There was no other person he would rather be with. No movie star even rose up to her level. She was irreplaceable. No one could be the way she was, no one could even try to be like her. No girlfriend hes dated has ever had the ability to make him look up when they walked into the room. Brittney did just that.
Besides the emotional and mental part, there was the aspect of physical attraction. He tried to make himself not think about sexual things, but sometimes it didnt work. After all, he was a guy at the age of thirteen. Thirteen was a confusing time. He started to feel and think certain things. Thoughts ran through his mind when he wanted them to sit still. There was nothing he could do about how his body was reacting to being held or being kissed. He would just have to deal with it himself, until she started dealing with it too.
Friday evening was the first evening that wasn’t too hot outside. Everything looked peaceful and nice. The sky was glowing auburn and the sun was deep orange and setting. The air was warm and the scent was fresh. Brian was feeling thoughtful.
He knocked on Brittney’s front door. When she opened it and came outside, she instantly hugged him and took his hand. They made their way down the sidewalk, turning corners and squeezing fingers until the wind picked up. Brian had a premonition.
He took her to a place he considered special. It was special to him because his mom had brought him there. It was a large field of sun flowers; not just regular sun flowers, sun flowers that grew taller than a full grown person and held a color brighter than an average yellow.
“Brian this is so beautiful.”she gasped, still keeping a tight grip on a few of his fingers. They walked through the flowers and she turned to face him.
“My mom used to bring me here.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. It was my favorite spot when I was a kid. It’s a special place to me, so I thought I should share it with someone special.”
She smiled. “Your so sweet.”
“I try.”he kidded, touching her hand momentarily.
They stayed quiet for a long time. The feelings glowing inside them were loud enough for anyone near by to hear. Brian felt as if they were talking to each other with their eyes. He couldn’t pass up this chance.
...............................................................
Brittney wasn’t sure what was going to happen. She had never felt so romantic. The field of flowers were suddenly a treasure to her. It was a place that was special to him, so it was special to her too.
She put her arms around him, and he put his around her. They held each other for a long time, slightly swaying. It was almost as if they were slow dancing–and maybe they were, but she was too caught in the moment to take notice of that. He placed his hand gently behind her head and rubbed her hair like it was precious to him.
She felt his back with her hands and watched him as he tilted his head slightly to the side.
Breath, Brittney. Breath.
Her heart was pounding, her hands were sweaty and her body was tingling, but she knew she was ready. She couldn’t pass up the chance.
He leaned in and kissed her lips softly. It was a beautiful kiss; filled with curiosity and yearning. She didnt kiss back at first, because she was so nervous. He paused the kiss for a moment, only to whisper into her ear, “I love you Brittney.”
A prick of tears filled her eyes. They were the most beautiful words she had ever heard, and would probably ever hear. She kissed him this time. “I love you Brian..”were the only words that could escaped her lips that evening. They kissed over and over, and held each other until the sky darkened. Brittney didnt want to let go. She didnt want that amazing feeling to go away. But she realized back home, that feeling could never go away

This story is so sweet...but a bit of advise
I love your detail and how you explain things. The end gave me goosebumps probably similar to brittney's and brian's... I really loved this chapter and I give it a thumbs up! The only advice I give to you now is that there has to be some conflict down the road some where if you dont already have it planned. It's so great right now, but a conflict should be involved somewhere to keep the reader on the edge of their chair. I love it lots and I hope you appreciate the comment!
