We don't know the adventures that await our clothes. It sounds funny, but their life is just as exciting as ours is. For as long as we love them, they love us back, and coincidently, they see just as much as we see. Our favorite sweatshirts we can't bear to let go of have been to more places than most children have. They live life and see everything; from a different perspective.
A concert t-shirt worn by a rebellious teenager has seen things most conservative adults wouldn't dream of. Bought at a hard rock show, the shirt patiently waits in its paper bag until the following Monday when it is worn and bragged on by the wearer. The shirt has never heard such compliments, being on sale almost the entire tour, just waiting for a gangly boy to buy it, three times his size.
A prom dress gets only one night of glory, but it is always a memorable one. It silently waits at the store, watching the overpriced size ones and fours fly off the racks. Finally, one day, a shy girl walks in with her mother. She tries on the plain dress, and amidst the sparkles, the spandex, and the usually revealing, she chooses the plain white one. Sometimes prom dresses find high school fantasies, yet they also find high school heartbreak.
A black suit worn by a gruff and ragged old man can have many destinations, this time for the funeral of his wife. The suit has been in the closet since their wedding day, almost fifty years ago, and it is happy to see the light of day once again. The condolences are flying, but it is basking the autumn glow. As the old man sobs in his hands, the suit is relishing its return. Then the events end, the old man goes home, and the suit goes back in its bag. It won't come out again until seven months later for the man's funeral, when it will be permanently eclipsed in black, in the grave.
A newborn's hat waits with hundreds of others, some blue, others pink. It waits for the day it will be chosen to cover the head of a precious new life. The baby boy's name is Henry, and the eager blue hat is swiftly placed upon his head moments after birth. The parents croon and adore, the mother cries. Henry grows, and the blue hat is saved in a chest downstairs. It sits with other baby clothes, toys, and hair clippings, hair that was once inside the little blue hat.
Being the mother of the bride is a job some mothers celebrate and others dread. Letting go of a child is never easy, and no piece of clothing knows this better than the mother of the bride dress. Given a bad reputation for being ugly and over-the-top, its knows its duty well: soak up the tears. Whether the mother is happy or sad to see her little girl grow up, the dress knows there will always be tears.
We never know the adventures that await our clothes. Whether the memories are good or bad, we live them all, and so do our outfits. They see our happiest highs and our saddest lows. They never judge us, just wrap their silent arms around us, and accept us for who we are. They live life, just like us.

I like this! It's certainly unique, and good to see normal situations from a fresh perspective. I kind of would have liked to see this go into more detail, maybe from a narrative more central to specific articles of clothing rather than having the feeling of omniprescence, though.
Thanks for entering, and good luck in the contest! -
I love this. It takes on the most original perspective I've seen yet, and makes me think of clothes in a whole new light.

I'm sure I'm read this on here before, because I remember the title. It reminded me of the show "The Secret Lives of Men".
Good job and good luck, and thanks for entering. -
An Intriguing Write
You've just given clothes an interesting new spin on life I think! lol. The title is a very clever one, caught my attention right away, and dragged me back to read it after browsing through the choices. Great title! The story lives up to the title...(although it could have gone more in depth, down many fun avenues...at least in my head anyway), but I enjoyed it very much just the same. I like your take on the subject.
Nicely done! -
First of all love the title. Very original, this is. Never heard of anything quite like it. Reminds of a book I've read, 'Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants'. I love the way you write it, like they've (the clothes) have told you all this which we hope they haven't since that would count as being quite insane. "...condoloences..." is spelt 'condolences'. "...our saddest downs." I changed 'downs' with 'lows'. This is a very interesting piece of writing even though it is not really a story and does not have a plot it seems to have little important bits of information embedded in it. Little morals and deliberations. Maybe your own? But this is a beautiful pieces of writing, quite unique. I found nothing major to comment on in the whole which is quite remarkable. So I applaude you for that. You are very talented, great work.

original idea and great writing! you kept me interested the whole way through. great job!

I really loved reading this. I wrote something quite similar recently, instead examining the memories a single room holds.
It was very well written, a simple subject, but with a great deal of meaning.
Very good. :]

I like this a lot...the only thing that concerns me is this:
She tries on the plain dress, and amidst the sparkles, the spandex, and the usually revealing, she chooses the plain white one.
"The Usually Revealing" bothers me, I don't know why. I'm sure it fits in someway, but my mind's just not accepting it.
Other than that minor flaw fantastic job! I'm not really sure if I'd call this a "story" it's sort of like an essay of some sort or maybe a poem (prose form, though). Whatever you call it, this is good! Good luck in my contest! -
That's a really good story, if only people where like that. Good job and a nice way of putting things.
-
Excellent.
I only gave you one of five in character and dialog because...there really isn't any. The idea was quite intriguing, odd as all hell, but intriguing. I particularly enjoy paragraphs 2 and 3.
On another note, could you read my story, and leave a comment? It's the only one I have posted at the moment, so, shouldn't be too hard to find ;-)beginning: 5, language: 5, plot: 5, ending: 5, dialog: 1, characters: 1.

-
An interesting thought and personification. I'll stop now, or I'll start a rant on pink and blue gender roles. Good descriptive piece.

i like your story. i never really read anything like this before. Good luck in the contest by the way!!
-
Very interesting and cute piece. It was a real joy to read. I never gave much thought to the cloths we were aor that they even have a life. I can imagine what they think of us.
-
I wonder what my clothes do when I'm not around Maybe I need a nanny cam.
-
FANTASTIC!!! it was really well written, and very descriptive. the way you described each of the clothes lives, was really good. congrats!!

-
A very interesting story, unique in its own way. Good luck with the contest.

Not normally what I'd read, but loved the flower border. So bright and gay, on your home page I browsed.
I never gave clothes much thought. Yanking them from hangers, getting them dirty and soiled, toss them into a smothering hamper, half drowning/half baking them until they are returned to the hanger and placed back into that dark closet or drawer.
I need to start thinking more of them than I had.
Really good read!
