She stood at the end of the dock1
Her eyes pure and ablaze with the fresh scent of heartbreak2
Contemplating how the sea can be so calm3
When she was so broken inside.4
----5
That’s when it happened.6
---------7
Footsteps approached her from behind,8
First mild and quiet, then increasing in loudness9
And echoing on the boards of the fragile dock.10
------------11
She did not move, though she heard with all her heart12
Her eyes still open, her heart still torn, 13
Her clothes still the same; still tattered and over worn14
She kept her focus on the sailboats that provided her with escape from reality15
A soft tear dropped. The tides crashed and hail pelted from the sky.16
--------------17
She fell to her knees screaming to Christ for His saving grace,18
Tears now pelting from her eyes, her broken heart somehow bound to the hail19
That was now falling for her rundown spirit,20
Filling the void that she had kept so close for over seven months.21
---------22
His hand caressed the air inches from her shoulder 23
He could savor her beauty from a distance, he thought, 24
It is safer that way.25
But, as man has been known to do, he touched her.26
Grasped her shoulder, ran his fingertips through her hair,27
Combing the soft black locks straight into an oblivion 28
Of sexual combat and emotional war.29
-----------------30
She turned.31
------32
When she did so, it was not a look of horror upon her face,33
But that of a vulnerable child, baffled by it’s own innocent lies.34
All he could do was grasp her chin and kiss her,35
In the hopes he could mend her wounded heart.36
-------------------37
But with what, he could not say,38
For he was a broken man also,39
Torn and tattered by the sea40
And a member of infidelities inner circle.41
She does not love me. I cannot love her.42
Who are you?43
His thoughts proceeded from his broken mind.44
------------45
I love you.46
Her lips gave way.47
He read it in her deep green eyes.48
I love you too.49
The rainstorm ended.50
Their lips did not part.51
Her eyes pure and ablaze with the fresh scent of heartbreak2
Contemplating how the sea can be so calm3
When she was so broken inside.4

Yes, it's quite all right... I know you didn't mean it like that.
Plus, that just tells me that you read the rules, too, an extra plus in my book. At first I wasn't going to allow story-poems, but there are few people entering, so this is fine.
Good luck in the contest and keep writing!
Kate
