Empty Eyes

It was a rainy afternoon sometime in September. The wind was blowing rapidly as Jilia stood at the front door holding her umbrella. She was searching through her purse for the house key when someone tapped her shoulder from behind. She turned around, quickly dropping the umbrella and putting her right hand over her heart. There she saw him; tall, dark, handsome and what everyone called an nice guy.
“Tylan, what are you doing here? I thought you went home,” Jilia said.
“I followed you to make sure you made it home okay. I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“It’s all right, but as you can see, I’m fine.”
The umbrella blew away from the hard wind. Jilia knew she couldn’t catch it so she just let it go. Tylan looked Jilia up and down. It sent chills up Jilia’s spine because from the look in Tylan’s eyes, it looked like he were intrigue something. Jilia looked away from the emptiness in Tylan’s
eyes and continued to search through her purse.
“Finally!” she thought as she grabbed the key from her purse and put it in the keyhole.
“Do you need some help?” Tylan asked.
“Not from you, not anymore.”
“Jilia, are you still mad over last year?”
Jilia twisted the key and opened the door. She stood in the doorway, looking at Tylan and again, there was emptiness in his eyes.
“What do you think? I trusted you with the only secret I kept from people, and you told everyone.”
“Well, sue me! It was a mistake.”
“No, the mistake was counting on you to be there for me. Next time I’ll be more careful in picking friends to talk to. You treacherously gave away the only thing I can give to a friend: my trust. I have no choice but to blame myself. I was dumb enough not to see what others told me about you. I thought there was some good in you, but I was wrong.”
Jilia folded her arms across her chest. Tylan looked eager to speak, but he didn’t want to say the wrong thing. He knew whatg he did was wrong, but he didn’t care. Tylan sundered his feelings from his mind and held her hands. She yanked her hands back and started to close the door. Tylan stopped it with his hand and looked at her. He could tell she was frieghtened redundant.
Tylan then amiably spoke, “I’m sorry Jilia, but there are others just like me.”
“Then I guess I’ll have to watch my back, won’t I? You transgressed the trust in our friendship.”
“This has betided you, not me.”
“It happened because of you!”
Jilia slammed the door in Tylan’s face and locked it. She walked down the hallway and into her bedroom. She didn’t bother to take her wet clothes off knowing they would eventually dry. She kicked her shoes off, climbed into bed and went to sleep. Tylan felt mortified as he stood there in the rain. His face lit up with a smile when he thought of something to make Jilia change her ways. He twisted the doorknob but felt hapless because it was locked. Then he thought to himself that most people keep a spare key hidden in the same spot, under the welcome mat. Tylan lifted the mat and to his surprise he picked up the spare silver house key. He slowly unlocked the door and went it. He was soak redundant as he proceeded to Jilia’s room. Being a former friend he knew where she slept. He stood over her bed and watched her sleep.
“Be a man,” he mumbled under his breath.
Could he actually do it? Make her fear everything and everyone for the rest of her life?
He mumbled again. “ She beguiled you into thinking you could be with her. She has to pay.”
Tylan started to undress him-self. When he was completely nude, he climbed into Jilia’s bed. He started kissing her and slowly she opened her eyes. He unbuttoned her pants and that’s when she spoke.
“Patrick?”
Patrick was her boyfriend who had told her he was going to Aspen for a week with his family.
“You’re back already?”
“Yes,” Tylan answered.
Jilia knew Patrick’s voice, and this wasn’t his. She opened her eyes all the way and saw Tylan staring at her.
“Now we can be together,” he said.
Jilia entreated Tylan to stop, but he refuesed to listen, claiming that she brought this upon herself and she deserves the pain he was about to give her. Jilia tried her best to get up, but Tylan held her down. She tried it again, and again he held her down. Tylan ripped her pants off and her worst nightmare became a reality yet again. Memories of her father and uncle ran though her mind, because not too long ago she was raped by them. Tylan finally got off her and left her crying in her bed. He grabbed his pants and the rest of his belongings, and exited Jilia’s house. She grabbed the phone after a few minutes of crying and called the police. She told them when they come just walk in. They showed up at her house and did what she asked them. She told them what had happened from the beginnging to the end. She also told them about the empty look in Tylan’s eyes. It was as if he felt nothing and didn’t care about what he did.
“Did you miss anything?” the policeman asked.
“No,” Jilia said.
“Did he hurt you?”
“He overpowered me.”
