What would you say…
“What would you say if you had to define your life?” Cynthia whispered as we both gazed up at the stars. I kept my eyes fixed on the stars above and lightly squeezed her hand as I gathered my thoughts. “I would say I’ve had an interesting life and I know the future is something to look forward to as long as our love for each other continues to grow”
“No Rick, I mean how do you define your life in terms of accomplishments?” I knew whatever I said should be a little more thoughtful so I paused again never looking away from the stars above. “I would define my life as having a positive impact on the people I love. I just think I have done well with my family and friends. I’m in a good profession that I enjoy, but you have to keep everything in perspective. As I look up at the stars I can’t help to wonder what our roles are in the bigger picture.”
Cynthia moved closer and said, “You mean in a spiritual sense?” “Well, if you just think about how small and insignificant we are. Look up and you can actually see the Milky Way in the clear night sky. Did you know that our sun is part of the Milky Way Galaxy? Did you know that it takes 250 million years for our sun just to rotate once around the center of the Galaxy? So, in the bigger scheme of things, we’re just a small grain of sand in the universe.”
Cynthia moved closer to my side and I gently moved her silky hair to one side. After giving her a light kiss on the cheek she smiled and said, “What would you say to someone who wants to live a good life? I mean, if you had to say it in a short sentence, what would you say?” I lowered my glace away from the stars and noticed Cynthia was looking into my eyes and smiling. I smiled and looked directly into her beautiful blue eyes and said, “If I had to sum it up, I would say, just be true to your word, work to the best of your ability, don’t worry about what others think about you and don’t make assumptions.”
I moved both of my hands to her lower waist drawing her closer to me and said, “Happy New Year sweetie, I know 2007 will be a good year, I Love You.” “I love you too Rick, Happy New Year.” As we kissed, the night sky lit up with brilliant flashes of light that announced the coming of the New Year.

structurally the only part that would need fixing is the last paragraph. You put both characters talking in the same part. That should be separate. otherwise it's well written. The expressiveness and flow of dialogue iswell done. Good work. Welcome to SW.
