part of a book I am writing: Lee's Mum Gets Hurt part 1

It was another boring Sunday, around 12:35 PM, when I decided to go online.  That is not too different from any other day though because I live online.  I really didn't expect many people to be on, they always rented the gym to play basketball on Sundays.  After it connected and my buddy list popped I was surprised to see Lee online.  My first thought was that something had to be wrong, seeing that he was one of the ones up playing basketball at the school.  Before I had another second to think about he had IMed me, thats when I noticed he was the only one on.  Was he waiting for me?1

Spitfires6:Hey Joules, can I talk to you? : /2

Naturally this peeked up my senses a notch.  Lee only asked me to listen to him once before, around 2 years back when we were thirteen.  I jumped to this sudden questioning with some quick enthusiasm.3

Illinibball6908: Sure Magic Foot, whats up?4

Spitfires6: We just got word from someone who works for my Mom, the guy says that   my Mom was in an accident.5

Illinibball6908: Is she Ok??!!6

Spitfires6: We aren't sure.  Me and my Dad are going up to the hospital right now. 7

Illinibball6908: What hospital is she at?8

Spitfires6: This one up in Chicago, not real sure what its called.  I can find out though.   Why?9

Illinibball6908: Lee you have always had my back, when my Da was shot, when I needed help on my old boyfriend, and when I was dumped.  Every time you were there for me.  Now its my turn, and I want to be there for you.  I will try to get my Mum or Da to give me a ride up there.  Just tell me where, and if you want me too.10

I waited a few minutes for his reply, it seemed to be taking him forever.  Finally he started typing again, but I was still really impatient.  Thats when he finished.11

Spitfires6: My Dad says we'll pick you up in half an hour, See ya then Joules.12

Then he signed off.  I was so relieved he wanted me to be there for him, I ran to tell my Mum what had happened.  I didn't care what I was suppose to do tonight, I had to be there for my friend.  All the times he was there for me...even this wasn't close to matching them.  I ran downstairs and filled my purse with some make-up, twenty bucks from my birthday, and my Walkman.  I knew how hospitals could sometimes get boring, and I was expecting Lee and his Da to stay with his Mum the whole time.  Right before I left my Mum came up and talked to me, I think she was trying to understand my thoughts but she just couldn't grasp them.  She was obsessed with asking me if I liked Lee.13

"Hey Hun, just call me on your cell and tell me whats going on, I want to be kept in the now," She started with a wink.  That was a tell-tale sign she was trying to get me to tell her something.  Every once in a while she would try to get me to tell her so hard it came down to her saying shizzle fanizzle, just plain pathetic...14

"Ok Mum, I'll call." I replied, pulling on my coat.15

"So...your doing this for Lee, because...?"16

"I told you Mum, he's always been there for me, and now its my turn," I said with a groan, this wasn't just going anywhere.17

"Do you like him dear? I mean well like him like him.  I know you guys dated once-"18

"Mum that was in the past ok! We are just friends now...I don't know what will happen because we are just friends!"19

"Thats not how you want it...is it?" She whispered.  I just stood there bewildered.  She reached over and gave me a hug.  I waved by and walked outside, while putting my hands in my pocket.  I was surprised to feel my hand hit a piece of paper, where I found she had put a $20bill into my coat. 20

"Thanks Mum," I murmured as Lee's Da's car came into view.21
