Chapter 4 – Jade 1

The smile on your face lets me know that 2

You need me3

There’s a truth in your eyes saying 4

The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me, 6

wherever I fall7

I hate it when people argue. Especially when my friends do. My parents argue at home and it’s all my fault there, but I wish Jay and Ria wouldn’t fight, because it’s about me. I know it is. It’s about how Jay doesn’t care about me going away, but he does. I know he does. He loves me and I love him with my heart. The rest of them don’t know, but we’ve going out for a year and a half or something. He makes me feel so special, like I’m actually worth something. I don’t understand it, I really don’t… 10

I walked him back to his house because he had a deep cut on his forehead. Ria had pushed him and he’d fallen back on the ramp and hit the skateboard. It was a pretty deep cut but I’d seen worse. I went with him anyway not wanting to go home just yet. We got to the gate of this drive.11

“You wanna come in?” he asked12

“I better get back…you know…”13

“Aw come on…Please?” his face fell14

“…Alright then. But half an hour only okay?”15

“Sure…” He face lit up and he looked like I’d given him a trophy or something. I smiled to myself. I had no idea what made him so happy…We walked in and I got the plasters out for him and fixed his cut while he made us fresh lemonade.16

”Whoops” he smiled cheekily as he splashed ice-cold water on me.17

“JAY…its freezing…! Oh you’re in deep shit you are now Mr. Jay bird! ” I spluttered and grabbed the jug of water and chucked it back at him. I laughed. He was doing this to cheer me up, it was all right, he understood.18

“Oh yea? Am I really?” he roared. He filled his hands with water from the sink and poured it on me. 19

“OIIIIIIIIIIIII!” I ran into the garden and grabbed the hose pipe and turned it on to him.20

“RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”21

“JAY STOP CHASING ME!!!!!”22

“NEVER!”23

“I CAN’T RUN ”24

“GIMME THE HOSE AND THEN I’LL STOP” He flicked his hair back. Man, he looked so fit when he did that!25

“NEVER!” 26

“GOTTA YA!” he shouted as he grabbed my shirt and pulled me to the ground and wrestled me for the hose. He ended up on top of me and we stopped. We were both out of breath and panting hard. It was kinda weird…but kinda nice too. I just stared into his oceanic blue eyes. He rolled over and lay next to me. 27

“ You know, my dad will kill me if I go back like this” I was soaked all the way through. There was no part of me that wasn’t wet. 28

“Well, I suppose you’ll just have to hang here a little longer then until you dry out” he replied quietly. I stared again at him, wondering why he was so sweet and at that moment I loved him so much. He pulled me close to him and I lay my head on his lap. We both just lay there looking at the clouds. I wondered what he was thinking about. I never wanted it to end. Never. I didn’t want to go to America; I just wanted to stay with Jay forever. 29

We lay there just like that for god knows how long. Both of us were silent and then the sunset cam. I love sunsets. The colors…the warmth…the atmosphere. It was so magical. The purples like plums, the pinks unfolding like peaches melting into the purples…The reds like flaming tomatoes fading into the orange and the yellow like oranges and lemons. The colours gave me the strength to go on…30

Just as the colour merged together, Jay whispered in my ear “ I love you Jade” and kissed me. I couldn’t help it, I dunno why, but my eyes just started crying and the tears rolled down my cheek before I could stop them. I just pulled him towards me and we kissed as the sunset went down…31
