There are no risen demons, only fallen angels.8
He must have known, I thought as I looked over at the boy, his robes too white in the dark and cold I was accustomed to. He must have known he could never return to his home, yet still he chose to sin and lose his wings.9
I walked over to the spot where he sat. He was praying. Pitiful. Your God cannot hear you here, child, and if he could, he would not answer.10
"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned, forgive me, please--" He had seen my shadow as I stood over him. He looked up at me. "Forgive me, Father, for I have fallen into the hands of temptation, and I fear I may sin again."11
I smiled. He burst into tears.12
I love my job.13
------14
You know what I like to do in my spare time? I like to totally screw up people's lives.15
So there they were, sitting on the couch making out. You could tell just by looking at them that they had been king and queen of the prom, they were totally spoiled, and they were going to live happily ever after.16
"Wait," she said, "stop. We're going too fast."17
Or maybe I was wrong.18
He gave her some kind of cross between a scowl and a pout. "What do you mean?"19
"I mean *stop.* Not now. Maybe not ever, if you keep this up. Get off of me!"20
"You would do it if you really loved me..."21
As horrible as that line is, I believe it's my cue.22
I twisted her mouth into a smile. "Who said anything about love?"
