Immotal Chapter 3

Chapter 31

James slowly opened his eyes as thunder rumbled around him. The storm had let up a little since he first blanked out and way taken away. These images weren’t uncommon for him. He’d become use to having flashbacks from a past he didn’t really remember. He sat there for a few more minutes feeling uneasy about being there; but unable to move at the exact moment; he leaned back against the willow. Its bark rubbed roughly against his back as he wanted for his mind to come back completely. This one had to be the worst yet. He knew what was coming and dreaded it. He couldn’t really understand why this particular past held him the longest or made him feel the most alive.2

After about five minutes, he got to his feet and left the willow behind letting his feet carry him where they wished. They led him down a small dirt road deeper into what forest was left. He passed an abandoned rundown looking house. His feet slowed down coming to a stop his head lifted and his eyes took in the sight before him. The house itself didn’t look horrible for being over a hundred years old. It was a simple two story cottage type affair. The outside was in need of a good coat of paint, a few of the shutters were broken off, and an upstairs window was broken. He could also see the corner of faded lattice on one side of the house and what appeared to be vines or weeds climbing up. His eyes moved up to the upper windows and looked at them. James’ gaze stopped on one for a moment then shook his head and began to walk again. A moment later he disappeared down the road and a light appeared in the window.3

James feet were carrying him toward home. He’d registered that much but was surprised when they took another turn toward going down another small trail. This one led him to the old Melosa Church. He easily jumped over the iron fence around the old graves. The rain was coming in a soft drizzle now. He made his way through the graves to one in the very back of the lot. She was buried here. He knew without a doubt she was even though the stone’s name had long been worn away, if there had ever been a name on it in the first place. He kneeled down and brushed some of the leaves and weeds away. He read they only thing visible on the stone. October 26,1506- May 31,1530. “She was twenty four” he said to himself as he look at the stone. He could feel himself start to slip back into her world. Normally, he would try to repress it he didn’t. 4

He suddenly found himself in front of the house he’d just passed. Everything was like new compared to what he’d seen earlier. Everything in its place. He watched from up in one of the trees in front of the property as the door opened and Selene stepped out along with her father. Another man came out behind them and closed the door. He watched as she paused for a moment and looked up at the trees. She looked right at him or so he thought. He saw extreme sadness in her eyes as her father helped her into a small carriage. Her father entered next and closed the door. The man that had exited the house with them climbed up into the front and lead the carriage away. 5

A small flash appeared in front of his eyes and he found himself in a small room. Selene sat with her father across from a tall black haired man with brown eyes. Her eyes were focused on her hands resting in her lap. The brown eyed man watched her a smile on his face as her father and the other man discussed something. James wasn’t sure exactly what it was but he continued to watch as the shorter man pulled out a small piece of parchment and wrote something down on it then passed it to both men involved in the transaction who intern signed it. They said their goodbyes then left.6

James stood there for a few moments wondering what had gone on. This hadn’t been what he was expecting her to show him, but he wasn’t one to question so he waited and sure enough he appeared at the Melosa Church to quite a showing. He stood near the back of the crowd who was clapping and cheering loudly as two people exited the church. He saw Selene in a beautiful white dress and on the arm of the brown eyed man. He continued to watch a feeling of anger, regret, and cowardice filled him as he watched them get into the carriage and ride off. “She should of been mine” he thought to himself. The sudden feelings surprised him.7

Suddenly a sound reached his ears a loud smack and someone crying. He turned around and found himself in a large but very dark home. He slowly made his way up the small flight of stairs where the crying got louder and so did the yelling. James moved to get a better look. The sight inside made him see red. 8

Selene’s face was bruised on one side and her lip was bleeding. Her dress torn, pieces of a broken vase were shattered around her as a look of complete fear entered her eyes. James unable to move watched as her husband moved toward her. An angry drunken scowl on his face and his eyes black. “You were trying to kill me weren’t you. You little bitch.” his words were slurred as he grabbed her dress and pulled her close to him. “You’ve been trying to kill me for a while now haven’t you?” he asked in her ear. Selene made no move to reply. Knowing either was what was coming she received another hard slap that caused her to fall to the ground. “You try anything like that again and I will have you tortured and burned.” he replied his voice low as he exited the room slamming and locking the door behind him.9

James unable to stand what he just saw made a jump for the man but phased right through him and hit the floor hard but without a sound. “You sorry son of a bitch” He yelled. No one heard him.

Spooky feeling.... And sad. This story is soooo sad!

Gabriel/James talks to himself a lot. Is this a hint of coming insanity? This guy is either incredibly traumatised or insane, the way he thinks. Possibly both. This will be a very interesting character to read about.

OMG, tortured and burned??? Divorce him, girl! Run for the hills!

I've grown attached to Selene in case you haven't noticed. You've made me feel defensive of your 'good' characters and angry at your 'bad' ones, so you've achieved one of your goals I believe.

    Onward to chapter four!

This depressed me even more, so she is an unresting soul, and she is showing him what happened to her after they had stopped seeing each other. This makes me sad that her life was filled with so much dispear, but then again it wasn't like she chose to have it this way. I can't wait for the next chapter!

Personally I don't like exact time periods such as "five minutes," it just subtracts from the flow of the story to me since five minutes didn't really pass and my mind likes to try to wrap around exact times like that.

Other than that, this is a very good story. I like it.
