Untitled- Chapter 4

Jonas swore under his breath as he changed quickly. I followed suit, willing my brain into action. I was done before hin and rushed from the room down the hall to where the girl was being kept. I entered her room to a horrific sight. Three vampires lay on the ground, bruises and burns across their bodies, the girl sat on the bed, tears stinging her eyes, tears of anger. I stood motionless, stirring only when Jonas entered the room, swearing under his breath at the sight.1

"What happened in here?" he demanded.2

"They tried to attack me," the girl replied, "they tried to take advantage of me!"3

It wasn't until then that we realized all the dead bodies were male. I glanced at Jonas, who was thinking fast. None of the dead were of our clan, but the host clan, and he had promised nothing would happen to them because of the prisoner. We could here Jubilee rushing toward the room.4

"Hide them," he told me.5

"What?"6

"HIDE THEM!"7

Quickly, I pushed the corpses under the bed, careful to hide any evidence of what had just occured. Jubilee entered moments later.8

"What's going on in here??" she cried.9

"The girl had nightmares, she screamed," Jonas lied.10

"Her screams sounded convincingly male."11

"Witches are able to trick people well."12

"You're lying to me, Jonas."13

"Never in the world."14

"If I ever find out what really happened in here, there will be consequences for her. I will see to it that she is killed myself."15

She left, muttering curses in an arcane tongue. Jonas closed the door as she left, telling one of our members to stand guard at the door and knock if anyone was approaching, then he turned to the girl. 16

"You have put us in an very uncomfortable position, girlie. This could start a war between our clans, or worse, between the vampires and witches, a war that has been stagnant for 900 years."17

"What would you have me do? The rules state that I am able to defend myself should your kind threaten me. That is what I did."18

"You don't know the rules well enough. Did they touch you?"19

"They tried."20

"But did they touch you?"21

"No, they didn't."22

"Then you had no reason to kill them, that is what the rules state."23

"I wasn't going to let them harm me before I did anything about it."24

"You should have called for help. My people would hae come and stopped them."25

"That's funny."26

"Shauni, we're going to be changing our plans. You will take the girl away tonight, start the journey to the States. I'll follow early the next evening, hiding these bodies first. Get your things together, girl, you're leaving."27

The girl turned and grabbed the small bag of clothing we had given her. I left the room, followed closely by Jonas. 28

"I have to get her out of here, Shauni."29

"I understand, Jonas. I'll take her to New York, that little manor we have out there. Hide her there during the day, and wait fo ryou to join us that night."30

"Very good, when you arrive there, contact the Ancestors, explain what has happened and do whatever they say. If they tell you to let her go, do it, if they tell you to kill her, do it. It doesn't matter, just do it."31

"I will always do what they say, no matter what. It is my duty, my life."32

"Good. Now, get changed, get your things, and get going."33

It didn't take long to change into traveling clothes. I knew dawn was short in coming, so I put on a long traveling cloak, all black. The thick material was stuffy and hot, but it was better than the painful alternative. Underneath I wore a black gypsy skirt with knee high boots and a red corset. Anyone passing me on the street would have taken me for a simple goth, nothing more, nothing less. I joined the girl, who had changed into a short black skirt and a purple tank top, with a black jacket. She looked uncomfortable, but it didn't matter, she had to listen to whatever we said. We left Canada at 3 A.M. for a long journey, full of surprises.34
