Untitled...Chapter 1

She waited to be sure that the coast was clear before stepping out of her midnight blue Ford F-150. She was there on official business and did not want any other trouble than what she was about to start. Carmen Montest, or Candy as so many of her friends would call her, was like no other. She was something many humans avoided and made sure to steer clear of at night. Carmen could be explained as nothing other than a cold blooded killer. Although there were many others like Carmen she was the one everyone knew. 1

Carmen Lee Montest was a vampire. One of the most cold-hearted and ruthless things to walk the earth. She had killed many witches, humans, and even other vampires. She was known to all, whether it was because she had killed someone they knew or they had been warned to stay away from her. The whole under ground world of vampires, witches and blood donors had some idea of who she was. Born over four hundred years ago, she knew the ins and outs of all the countries and cities that she frequented. And even if she had never been to a place before in her long life she would be able to adapt and learn her way around quickly. 2

But the one difference was that she had witch blood running through her as well as vampire. She was part of the famous Vates line. The only line that was part witch and part vampire. Some of her kin sided with the vampires, others thought the witches were the most domiminant part of the blood, and then there were others that were undecided and thought that it should be a live or be killed line. Even though she wasn’t as bad as some of the other vampires, Carmen was also known for starting little fights just so she would have a reason to kill her prey, whether it was her witch blood or vampire blood that willed her to do so she almost always had to start a fight before killing her prey. But tonight was different; she meant to consult an old friend about the pending problems between the members of her line. 3

Walking up to the one story ranch was an adrenaline rush all in its own. Even though she had been dead for many years she still felt the pain and excitement that came with killing. Although tonight she was not her to kill, just to warn. This house crawling with vampires, vile things as they were would surely have at least one reason to start a fight with her. Sometime in the past she had probably killed a member of their line. But no matter how provoked she would not start a fight or get involved in one. Unlike many of the vampires she had rules about fighting and killing. And killing here would be going against one of those life long rules she had.4

As she reached the door and knocked she noticed something about the house that she had never noticed before. The entirety of the house was all pitch black on the outside. She wondered what exactly the inside would look like but she didn't have to time to wonder very long, for the door had just opened. The vampire that stood there immediately saw who she was and bowed down to her begging for mercy. 5

"Get up, you worthless fool," she said as she stepped through the entranceway. "I am not here to see you or any of your meaningless admirers. I only wish to see Latonie. Be a dear and fetch her for me." 6

"Yes, madam. As you wish."7

Carmen couldn't help but smirk at the way the fool had treated her. She knew that she was well known and even worshipped by others but actually being respected by another vampire was new. Latonie really taught them well...they know who to be fearful of and even who to respect. Latonie was one of the oldest vampires in the world. She had a reputation almost as bad as Carmen's. Normally the two vampires would never have spoken to each other, but the current circumstances called for the aid of others who were as strong as Carmen, if not stronger.8

"Well, well, well....what do we have here? A stranger lost, a friend in need of aid, or am I seeing things?" Latonie asked as she entered the room.9

"A stranger lost if it will help me get the chance to speak to you. And if not then I truly am a friend in need of aid. But until we are alone I wont say another word of it." Carmen replied. 10

Latonie nodded and dismissed the other vampires in the room with a quick sweep of the hand. They would rather die a thousand deaths than disobey Latonie. And just to make sure there were no stragglers Latonie checked the cabinets and closets, when she was sure it was safe and secure she spoke in a whisper, "I see you still carry that same pride as you did twenty years ago. Now what is the pending problem? Whatever it is it must be terrible and urgent, for you would never have come here to ask for help on a simple matter."11

"Well first off lets get this straight, I am not the only one in need of help. And secondly I could very possibly come just to chat with you. I mean we were friends at one time and I would like to keep it that way." Carmen countered with a smirk. Knowing well and full that what her friend said was completely true. “But you are right. I need your help, well actually we need you help. My line, my family the ones that I have come to love and trust are in danger. But no matter how much I try they will not listen to me. I know what will happen to them unless we do something but they wont heed the warnings. The only ones who listen are the Undecided. And the problem has to deal with things we refuse to recall and people we have hated for all of the eternity we have been alive."12
