The Patients Episode 8~It’s In The Dark When Things Come Into Light

Jamie opened the door and walked out of her bedroom. She let out a slight yawn and walked into Bianca’s room. She hasn’t gotten much sleep this week. She’s been up all night, thinking about Cody. She kept wondering if she really was in love with him1

“Jaime, are you only dating Cody to get over Aiden? Cause, that’s not right. You shouldn’t use someone like that,”. It kept repeating in her mind. But, she had no time to think about it now. Bianca and Justin got up from her bed.2

“Hey, what’s up?” asked Bianca.3

“Not much,” she answered. Then, from behind she felt lips peck her cheek. She quickly turned around to see that it was Cody.4

“Hi!” Jamie exclaimed.5

“Hey,” said Cody. They gave each other a quick pick and everyone walked out to go to dinner. Tonight was cheeseburgers and fries. Rain fell hard in the rooftop as thunder was rumbling so loud, it hurt your ears.6

“Hey, have you guys seen Rose at all? It seems like she just dissappeared,” Jamie asked,7

“She moved out of her room. Went down to the south end of the building,” answered Justin with his mouth full of food.8

“Baby, can you not talk with your mouth full? It’s disgusting,” said Bianca. Justin turned to Bianca and gulped his food.9

“Sorry Miss High Matience,” he mumbled. He and Cody picked up their trays and started walking towards the garbage cans.10

“Un-freakin’-believeable,” said Bianca. She pushed her tray away and crossed her arms across her chest.11

“What’s the matter?” Jamie asked.12

“How am I suppose to know? He’s been acting like that recently. I’m apparently a problem to him,” answered Bianca. Then, I looked over and saw Lola coming over towards our table. But, she wasn’t looking like her funky, cheery, happy self. She looked a little worried, almost nervous. She quickly sat down and didn’t say anything.13

“Where’ve you been? You’ve been in Mr. Nash’s office for a long time,” Jamie asked.14

“Nothing, I just had to tell him something that took a while,” she answered.15

“Well, what was it?” she asked, But, she wouldn’t get her chance. All of a sudden, the lights started flickering. They’ve been for a week now but it was bad this time. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up. Then, everything went black. People suddenly started screaming and tables and chairs were beginnig to move.16

“Bianca? Lola?” Jamie yelled.17

“We’re right here. Get under the table,” said Lola. Without hesitation, Jamie crounched down onto the floor and started crawling. She felt a high-heel shoe and knew that it was Lola She settled herself down and bumped her head on the table.18

“You okay?’ asked Bianca.19

“Yea,” she answered, rubbing the bump in her head. Then, a ray of light shined and everyone got quiet.20

“Okay everyone, listen up! We’re dealing with technical difficulties. So, we might be in her and in the dark for a while. I’m gonna go out and help. The nurses will be here and you will follow their orders. Stay on your best behavior and whatever you do, don’t leave,” shouted Valerie. The ray of light went away and a door slammed. The cafeteria was buzzing again.21

“Great, a blackout. We could be in here for hours,” Bianca said. Jamie let out a sigh and began talking with Bianca and Lola. Not long, lanterns were being given out by the nurses. A plump nurse came down by us and looked completely exausted.22

“Sorry, we’re out of lanterns. Can I trust you with candles?” she asked.23

“Yea,” we all answered. She then gave us a box and walked away. We all went in the box to find small candles, little candle holders and a pack ogf matches.24

“Is she an idiot? Why would you ever give candles to kids in a mental institution? We could’ve been lying,” said Jamie.25

“Whatever, my eyes are straining from trying to see,” said Bianca. So, they all took out the stuff and began setting up. When the last candle was finally lit, Jamie could now see Lola and Bianca.26

“Well, that’s better now,” said Lola.27

“Has there ever been a blackout at Green Wood?” Jamie asked.28

“Nope, this is the first time it has ever happened,” answered Bianca.29

“Well, I guess there’s a first time for everything,” mumbled Jamie.30

**31

“Can you believe this?” said Justin. He was stuck under a table with Cody.32

“Well, the lights have been flickering like crazy for weeks, it was bound to happened,” said Cody.33

“Oh well, I was happy to get away from Bianca,” mumbled Justin.34

“Yea, what’s up with you two? You’ve been bickering for weeks,” said Cody.35

“She’s suddenly got all high matience. Apparently everything I do isn’t right,” answered Justin.36

**37

“So, how is it with Justin? Jamie’s been telling me you’ve been having problems,” asked Lola.38

“I seriously don’t know. I mean, I’ve never been so confused. I know that I like him but now I’m having second thoughts,” answered Bianca.39

“What, like you don’t love him anymore?” asked Jamie.40

“I don’t think I do. I think I wanna break up with him,” said Bianca.41

“Okay then, if you know that it isn’t working for you, then you shouldn’t stay with him,” said Jamie.42

“But, I can’t leave him,” Bianca said suddenly.43

“Why not?” asked Lola, sounding bewildered.44

“I don’t know if you know this but ever since we started dating, he hasn’t gotten into a fight with anyone,” answered Bianca.45

“Okay?” asked Jamie, not getting Bianca’s point.46

“Well, I’m afraid if I leave him, he’ll get into a fight or something,” answered Bianca.47

“So, you’re going to stay with him for his sake?” said Jamie, sounding compeltely shocked.48

“I guess so,” answered Bianca, sounding a little down.49

**50

“I don’t know. I just have a feeling that she’s gonna break up with me,” said Justin.51

“Dude, she’s won’t,” said Cody, trying to sound reasurring. Then, a knock was heard on the table. Justin and Cody looked over to see Aiden.52

“Hey,” said Justin.53

“Mind if I join you?’ asked Aiden.54

“No problem,” answered Justin. Aiden climbed under the table and made himself comfortable in the circle around the lantern.55

“So, what’s going on?” asked Justin.56

“It’s just the weather. Some freak outage,” answered Aiden.57

“How long do you think it will take?” asked Cody.58

“I don’t know, hours,” answered Aiden.59

**60

“So, Lola, what were you talking to Mr. Nash about?” asked Jamie.61

“Look, I really don’t want to talk about it,” answered Lola.62

“Hey look, Aiden joined Cody and Justin,” said Bianca, looking in the other direcion.63

“What is he doing here?” asked Jamie.64

“He probably wanted to see his friends,” answered Bianca, now looking at Jamie.65

“Jamie, what is going on? One minute, you were in love with him and now it’s like you don’t want to see him,” asked Lola.66

“Well, maybe I don’t,” snapped Jamie. 67

“Jamie, it’s time to come clean: Are you still in love with Aiden?” asked Bianca. Now, Lola and Bianca were staring at her. But to Jamie, it felt like the whole world was watching her.68

“Yes. But lets face it, we can never be together,” answered Jamie.69

“Will you cut the bull, Jamie? You like him and he likes you. It’s not rocket science,” said Bianca.70

“It’s a lot more complicated than you know, Bianca. We’re from two different lives,” said Jamie.71

“Who cares? You know, that’s why I hate stereotypes. So what if he is a Loader? You two were pratically meant to find each other,” said Bianca.72

“Loader?” asked Lola, sounding clueless.73

“That’s what we call all the rich kids here in Green Wood,” answered Jamie.74

“Jamie, you can’t hide from Aiden forever. Will you please promise me that you’ll dump Cody and talk to Aiden? You know that Cody is getting hurt from all this,” said Bianca.75

“Okay, I promise,” answered Jamie.76

**77

“Holy crap, how long does it take to fix a couple of wires?” asked Cody.78

“Hey, we got a bigger problem. What do I do about Bianca? What if she does plan to break up with me?” asked Justin.79

“Then she will. Apparently, it wasn’t working for her and it’s gonna be what it’s gonna be,” answered Aiden.80

“Yea, I guess you’re right,” said Justin.81

“And don’t worry. There are plenty of girls around here who are hot and single,” said Aiden. They both started laughing them stopped when they looked over at Cody.82

“Wow, that was pretty Loader-sounding,” said Cody bitterly.83

“Look, I didn’t mean anything bad by it…” Aiden started to say.84

“Now I know why Jamie picked me over you,” interrupted Cody.85

“I’m sorry?” asked Aiden, sounding insulted.86

“It’s how it works with you Loaders: you love em’ and you leave em’ ” answered Cody.87

“Okay, lets get one thing straight, it was Jamie’s decision to turn me down, not mine,” said Aiden. 88

“You know, she’s been acting very weird lately. Are you two together or something?” asked Cody. For almost a minute, no one said anything. Justin and Aiden just sat there, staring at Cody.89

“That was low, Cody. Really low,” said Justin.90

“And to answer your question, no, we’re not together,” answered Aiden. Silence fell again. Cody just sat there, with look on his face as if he was trying to gather words to say.91

“Okay Aiden, I’m gonna make this short and clear: just stay away from Jamie, okay?” asked Cody.92

“I can’t make that promise,” answered Aiden.93

“I’ll take that as a yes,” said Cody. He slammed the chair and got up. He walked away from the table and joined Benny.94

“Aiden, I’m no doctor but that didn’t sound right,” said Justin.95

**96

“Lola, you’ve been avoiding the subject all night. It’s not that I’m being nosy, I just wanna be helpful to you,” said Jamie. They’d been silent for a few minutes, seeing if Lola would talk about what happened in Mr. Nash’s office.97

“It’s really bad, okay? I’m just afraid of what you might say,” saod Lola.98

“Come on, we can take it,” reasurred Bianca. Lola than took a deep breath and bagan.99

“Okay, I’ve been thinking lately. Like, deeply thinking. I don’t know why but I started to think about my sexual orientation. One day, I’m happy that I’m a girl and then the next, I’m completely regretting the whole thing. Mr. Nash thinks it has something to do with the ‘episode’ I had but he’s not sure. Guys, I think that I really was meant to be a boy,” said Lola.100

“So, you think that you were never born in the wrong body?” asked Bianca. Lola simply nodded her head.101

“Lola, I just want you to know that no matter what you are, boy or girl, we still love you for you,” said Jamie.102

“Ditto,” said Bianca.103

“I know but it’s so fustrating. I thought I knew who I was,” said Lola.104

“Well, you’re not the only one. I thought I knew who I was but we’re all still trying to figure it out. But, do you know what’s the best part? That you have friends and loved ones help you out,” said Jamie. They all came in close together and exchanged a long hug. In that moment, the lights began to flicker anf than brightly came back on. The cafeteria doors opened and everyone got to see Valerie come in, soaking wet.105

“Okay, the power’s back on and we can all return to our rooms and go to bed,” announced Valerie. Within a second, everyone headed out the door. Lola, Jamie, and Bianca blew out the candles and put it all back in the box. They left it on the table and walked out to see that Cody, Justin, and Aiden were waiting for them.106

“Hey guys,” said Lola.107

“Hey Jamie,” said Aiden, sounding uncertain.108

“Hey,” answered Jamie, sounding the same.109

“Hey,” said Bianca. She walked right up to Justin and they exchanged a long kiss.110

“Come on Jamie, let me walk you back to your room,” said Cody. Jamie snapped back into reality and grabbed Cody’s hand.111

“Yes, please,” said Jamie. They walked off together, not bothering to sat good-bye to anyone. Bianca looked over at Aiden and then looked back. She let out a fustrated sigh and she and Justin left.112

“So, wasn’t this just so much fun? Getting stuck inside the cafeteria, in the dark,” asked Lola.113

“Well, it certainly taught me something: it’s in the dark when things come into light,” said Aiden.114

“I think I’ll second that notion,” agreed Lola. They laughed and said good-bye to each other, going their own ways and off to bed, to get some weel deserved rest.115

Okay, Cody if a jealous asshole, Jamine needs to dump his sorry ass and kick it with Aiden. There I said it.... and yes, I do feel much better.

I'm so glad that you have finally posted something. I've been sitting here, waiting FOREVER for something to appear. And POP! it has finally happened. The fill of this story that I need.

I thought this was an excellent chapter that let us dig further into the lives and drama of each character that has been shown to us. Some in small ways, others in much lagers mouth fulls. I like how the intensity kicked up a notch. That is always very important in stories because it keeps the reader interested and wanting more and more and more.

However, I didn't like how Aiden and Jamie said that they were in love. They've never experience love, only through brief kisses, flings, and stares. I'm sure what they feel for each other is very strong and powerful and in a way they click but they've aren't in love. Love are first sight is only a myth. Love doesn't happen over night, love takes time. Real true love grows like a planet throughout the relationship. Love is a very powerful thing and I believe the characters don't understand love and are taking it too lightly.

I also think that you should add a lot more in about Jamie's condition. The way that she is functioning throughout life makes it seem as if she doesn't have HIV. People this this disease are well everyday, they are very sick and I think you should add that into this character because it would make her and the story more real.

All in all, I still think it was an excellent story and I can tell that your writing has improved a lot since I first started reading from you.

    Much love

    always && forever,
    ~mommy

    Aha!
    What is this?
    Could it be.. a comment?
    Well, yah.

It seems the plot of this story gets thicker the more you write, which is in no way a bad thing. i'm so glad you wrote another episode, i had almost given up hope of ever nosing into the lives of the characters ever again.
i'm intrigued by all the new developments.. please don't keep us hanging for too long!
maybe tell the readers a bit more about some of the other characters in the clinic, insert some mystery, idk. Just don't stop writing!
