Love Sometimes Overcomes All1

Denny is a man with a heart unlike all others. His life was shortened by his medical condition. But love cannot be stopped.2

He fell in love so easily with a woman who cared for him. This can be understandable. I mean how many patients haven’t given thought to feelings for a doctor or nurse? Though seldom pursued, they are thought of!3

Denny was the type man with a humor for life and lived it to the very fullest. If more did this, the world would be a better place. Allowing people to embrace death as the beginning and not the end.4

Of course there is that connection, an electrical spark that grabs hold of each ones heart. Imagine the smile on ones face when it sent a jolt. There would be no doubting what was happening.5

How could this wonderful man die without first finding his true love? Would it be allowed to happen or did destiny have other plans?6

In she walked, it happened in an instant; all went so fast for him he could barely speak. He would have to be careful how his handled the situation.7

Jokingly he openly flirted with her in front of her peers. Her hands were so beautiful to him topped off with a frosted pink nail polish. He smiled bigger, thinking he was going to add warmth to this woman’s life.8

There on his nightstand was a sports magazine. She picked it up and asks him how he liked the game last week? He was thinking to himself, she’s a sports nut too; wow, I hit the jackpot for sure.9

She ruffled his big fluffy pillow laying it back under his head. While finishing up, he watched her every move. Inside his mind he was making plans for him and her. I bet she‘d love to go to Rome with me! 10

She reached down to pick up the globe magazine she had knocked off, and he let out with a huge wolf whistle. She looked back at him smiling, and ask him what that was about?11

He laughed, saying my lady I have no idea what you are referring to! Her face turned pink, and that’s when she finally looked at him eye to eye.12

See you later she said, as she turned to leave. No you wont adding a pout look. She reaches down into her pocket saying, “ I’ll bet you 2 quarters I’ll be here when you awake!” She gave him a wink and left his room walking on air.13

This can’t happen, she reminded herself. Doctors and patients don’t date. It’s been a good policy up to now and needs to remain.14

She went home with a lot of crazy thoughts on her mind. Sitting on the patio in her chair stroking a cat that had strayed her way. She found herself talking to this silly cat!15

The next morning she stopped by the gift shop and bought Denny a teddy bear. Maybe that will help cheer him up some. Thinking to herself, he could fall in love with it, instead of her.16

She walked into his room smelling of the crisp morning air; her sunglasses were still upon her head. She was a few minutes late after going to gift store, but his face made it well worth all.17

She slipped it in on him, making it talk. Silly, Silly man, now you have someone to love. He reached out his only loose arm and wrapped it around her waist, saying,” yes I do my love, you!”18

Her face rosy again, she pulled away, but there was that connection, she had never felt this way before about any man. Maybe it was just the situation he was in, so many different reasons and things clouded her mind.19

She was in and out of his room several times a day. Part of the time it was just he wanting to see if she would return!20

That night before she left he had a nurse sneak around and buy a football. He had a hint they would soon be playing tackle. Flashing his special smile and the glow on his face, his eyes twinkling so bright.21

She came through on her way home and found him asleep. He was going to regret that. She noticed his wallet lying out and took it to the charge nurse on the floor to lock up for safekeeping.22

He woke slightly as she was walking out the door. Smiling he went back to sleep. Then he spent the rest of the night in the sweetest of dreams about him and her seeing the world together!23

When she walked in he was in one of his wonderful and mischievous moods. She had bent to pick a paper up and he threw the ball hitting her on her rear side. She rose in shock, what, what was that she said to him, looking startled?24

She saw the ball on the floor and just looked away. When he spoke it was all she could do just being there and doing her job.25

“It wasn’t me,” he whispered between breaths, while showing her his precious smile, that along with the twinkle in eyes, all being like magic to her. She was going to have a hard time not to fall in love with him.26

The next morn he was acting different. Had she offended him somehow? He didn’t say much at all and there was no silly smile, more so a look of intense concentration.27

She went on to make her rounds and then came back to check on him. He was sitting up in bed reading his magazine. He laid it aside and asks could she talk a moment. I can if you behave your silly self and winked at him.28

You know, a man in my position, with very little time left, has a different outlook in life than others. I know I’ll never ski again, play football with the guys, live the life I was used too before this happened.29

I have to live life faster than others do, since I have no promise of tomorrow. Suddenly tears formed in her eyes and her heart. A sob escaped her from deep inside.30

She went to touch his face and assure him something would come along and help him survive a long life. Telling him also he shouldn’t be talking like that,31

Like Dr. Jackal and Mr. Hyde, his whole demeanor changed before her. He sat up straighter and ask could she could move in closer to him. He enjoyed her fragrance immensely! 32

As she did he slipped the pearl necklace around her neck. “But Denny,” she stammered as he fastened it on her,” I can’t, there are rules.” “Rules are made to be broken,” he said, “ in certain situations and this is surely one!”33

Her heart was swelling with so much emotion; and if it wasn’t right, oh well, so be it! That moment it struck her she did have some intense feelings for him too!34

As she turned she noticed his dress shoes were out. “Where you going somewhere,” she asked of him? Actually yes, they are sending me home today. Her heart about to drop. She was in panicked after allowing this man into her life; and now he was leaving her alone. How could he do this?35

Her thoughts were broken as the repairman walked in and dropped his tools. He looked at her saying, “ will you promise to come back before I’m sent on my way?” I think we have some talking to do, giving her that wide smile and having the twinkle in his eyes as he watched her. As she walked away, she would have sworn he said I love you to her. 36
