Does he know that she loves his brother as well as him? What will she do about it?1
As she sat on the window seat, looking into the horizon, Cassie Lloyd sighed as she thought of her brother-in-law-to-be, Daniel Andrews. She loved him. She noticed the sky was turning as pink as the rose he had given her before she got engaged to Tyler. She laid her head on her knee as she thought of Tyler. What was she to do? What would happen if Tyler found out that she was in love with his brother? She sat up straight with just the thought of it. The sky became a deep purple, the awkward color of Daniel's eyes. She missed him, and if she was to get married, she'd miss him even more. She was only 19. How was she to marry at 19?? She heard the door open, hoping it was Daniel. She turned, just to see Tyler with his arms outstretched, waiting for a hug. 2
"Cass, come over here and give me a hug," he said. She got up as slow as she possibly could and slowly walked over to him. Tyler held her close as she thought, I can't possibly get used to this! She wanted to say it out loud, but knew she couldn't. She slowly backed away as Daniel came in the front door. Cassie nodded and hugged him. 3
"How's my favorite sister-in-law-to-be?" he asked. She took in the smell of him, knowing she was going to forget it if she got married to Tyler. She and Tyler went to bed that night around 11:00. Cassie woke up at 3:00 a.m., and looked over to Tyler. As he was asleep, she walked downstairs. She wrote on a piece of paper and set it in her robe pocket, halfway hanging out. She took a knife from the kitchen.4
The next morning, the cops were there. Tyler woke up to conversations in the kitchen. A cop was holding a note and another was shaking his head. 5
"Poor girl. They should've known," the first cop said. Daniel was sitting at the table, his head in his hands. Tyler was in shock, so he went to sit down next to his brother. 6
"Dan, what happened?" he asked, leaning forward. Daniel shook his head, and Tyler realized that Daniel was crying. "Daniel. don't play. What happened? Where's Cassandra? Where's she at?" Daniel fell onto the table into sobs. 7
"She-she-she's" he choked, sobbing some more. Tyler rubbed his brother's back, thinking Cassie had left the house and she would be back later. Just then, a cop walked up to him. 8
"Excuse me, are you Tyler Andrews?" he asked Tyler, who nodded. "Young man, I think you should read this." Tyler took the note from the cops hands and read it. 9
As he read it, his heart shattered and tears stung his eyes. "No, it can't be true!"10
"Better believe it, son. It's in black and white right there," the cop said. "I know it's hard to accept, but face it." Tyler scoffed as a tear hit the note, smudging the letter 'O' on the first line. Tyler read it over and over, then finally read it aloud. 11
"Tyler,12
I'm sorry to hurt you or Daniel. It was 13
never my intention to hurt you both, but14
for me, it was hard to accept the fact that15
I was going to marry you and be in love with16
your brother at the same time. I'll see you17
again, in another life. I'm sorry. I love you,18
Tyler, but I must go. Goodbye.19
Love always,20
Cassie"21
Tyler then noticed a bloodstain on the name. He shuddered. "No, it can't possibly be." But he looked and saw Cassie's body on the floor in the middle of the kitchen, a knife in her heart. There was a paper hanging off the knife stating: "A true broken heart lies beneath the surface."22
