To The Grave - Chapter Five

"It has been two days since this started. I want a meeting with all those involved."

"Of course, Senator," Directeur Bermen nodded, but did not move from his seat in front of the Senator’s desk. "Would eight this evening be convenient."

Senator Plow nodded. "Acceptable. On the Military base." She then moved on to other discussions. "During the upcoming election, I want security to be extra tight and visible. I want people to know that you’re there, and to know that I would be the best one to replace the outgoing Leader."

"Of course."

"After the speech at the Promenade on the waterfront, I want a limo waiting to take me to the airport. I have a meeting the following morning in Ottawa." She smiled coldly. "I expect you’ll be accompanying me?"

Directeur Bermen smiled apologetically. "Unfortunately, Senator, I have three extremely important meetings that day, one here, one in Charlottetown, and the other in Fredericton. I’m afraid I shall be on the road that entire day."

Senator Plow dismissed him with a wave of her hand. "Very well. Please, Directeur, I have pressing work, and I must see to it." She watched as he got up and walked out of her office. She didn’t trust him, and as soon as she was the new Premier, she would name his replacement.

Sitting on his couch at home, Kyle read through his old files on Keren Pelgrew, looking for some hint as to what she had planned. The only thing he knew about her was that she liked staying in penthouse suites in whatever city she was in. He already had the ‘kids’, as he referred to the two youngest on his team, looking at all penthouse suites in the area where she had lost her followers, and although he didn’t expect much, he hoped to at least find out where she wasn’t.

Deciding to take the rest of the afternoon off, he had gone home to work, but small interruptions kept keeping him from getting anywhere. He took a drink from his coffee as he glanced at the wall clock, mentally programming himself to remember that he had to leave in fifty minutes for the meeting with the Senator, Directeur, Admiral, and his team.

His team. He sighed again, convinced that someone was not serious about this assassination rumor. He had expected a seasoned team, or at least one with a couple years behind them. What he had gotten were Celia Taylor, a Sub-Agent who had been in the field for less than two years, and was most likely on her first assignment as co-lead. He had browsed through her file, surprised that, at twenty-three, she was actually the oldest, behind him. The two other agents were so fresh out of training that he could swear they still smelled of the Ottawa Training Center.

"Fuck," he whispered as someone knocked on his front door. "If that’s you, Celia, I’m going to kick your ass," he mumbled as he walked across the living room. She had stopped by twice that afternoon to drop off things that she easily could have courier to him; but he knew it was more than likely she was checking up on him to make sure that he wasn’t sitting around in some drunken stupor, or contemplating running amok through downtown Halifax with a loaded weapon. He was as sane as she was, but she still held to the belief that his service records showed the real Kyle Suene.

At least he hoped she was checking up on him for one of those reasons…he’d hate for it to be because she just wanted to see him. Sure, she was pretty, and smart, and looked great in a sweater, but she was hardly his type. He preferred women, not someone barely out of her teens. Twenty-eight was the youngest he was willing to go; someone set in their life, and who knew what they wanted, both from life and from him, and knew how to give him what he wanted.

Kyle slowly opened his front door as someone knocked again, and smiled in surprise at the person who stood there.

"Hey," she said.

"Hey, yourself," Kyle said, trying to hide his relief. He took a step back so she could enter. "I thought you’d be gone for a couple months."

"Plans changed." The woman leaned her back against the door and smiled a little too sweetly. "I'm back for a week, and thought I would cash in on that rain-check you gave last time I was here."

Kyle’s smile changed slightly as he moved closer to her, his hands running up and down her arm. "Sorry about that, Jillian. Military always had a bad sense of timing." He frowned. "In fact, I was temporarily reactivated, and have about an hour before I have to be somewhere."

"Well, we best get fucking", she replied as her hands went in his pants and slowly ran along his waist. She moved closer to him, and smiled at the hardness against her thigh.

He replied with a small moan and pulled her to him, turning as he did, and lifted her so that her legs were wrapped around his waist. Her arms tightened around his shoulders as the door supported her back. One of his hands adjusted his pants while the other went under her skirt, his desire growing as his finger encountered wetness.

She kissed him as his fingers teased and taunted between her legs, and pushed herself against the door at the unbelievable sensation of the occasional finger entering her. She was gently lowered, and she felt him in her, then her back was gently moving up and down the door, following the rhythm that they were making.

He kissed her neck as his arms moved up slightly around her middle, and he held close as he turned and transferred them both to the sturdy table that sat by the door. He reached over her and knocked the books from the table with one swipe of his arm. She laughed lightly as he lowered her onto the table, and ran her hands through his short hair as he held her waist, pulling her toward him to match his thrusts.

All too soon, her back arched as she released and arched more as he pushed harder into her, causing her to climax over and over again. His hands moved to her breast, and cupped them through the material of her dress as he pushed against her until he was completely empty. He leaned over her, kissing her neck, face and lips, stopping in surprise as he felt her muscles move in a massaging action as he was still in her.

He moaned as he hardened again, and this time began a slow leisurely motion in and out of her wanting body.

Keren Pelgrew looked around her new accommodations and sighed. She had hated to move out of the penthouse, but had known one or more security teams were following her. She had known she would have to move from the moment she saw him on the hill overlooking the Promenade, and hoped that she had left enough clues behind to entice him to follow her.

When she accept the newest contract, she had fleetingly hoped that she might catch a glimpse of him around the city. His persistence in trying to catch her had been a turn on, and his ability and willingness to think like her had been intriguing.

After he had actually tracked her down, and through a series of unfortunate events on her part, caught her, she had offered herself to him in trade for release. He had ran a hand along her bare arm, looked completely tempted, then told her that he’d ‘rather be celibate for life.’ She had laughed at that, taken no offence, then began planning her escape.

Sitting in the back of a covered vehicle, with eight weapons pointed at her, she waited until the sky outside turned dark before she made her move. Biting down hard on a fake tooth in the back of her mouth, she swallowed the contents, forcing herself not to gag as the liquid trickled down her throat. She waited a few minutes for the antidote to settle, then bit down hard on another fake tooth, and exhaled a nerve toxin into the back of the vehicle.

The soldiers closest to her passed out without knowing what hit them, while a few others managed to get to their feet before falling to the floor. She felt the vehicle slow down considerable as she grabbed a knife off a soldiers belt, cut her restraints, then, for no other reason than that she wanted to, she slit the throat of one closest to her. She looked up quickly as the vehicle stopped, and swore as she heard the doors open. She listened, and could hear the faint voices coming from ear transceivers from the soldiers on the floor, demanding acknowledgement. When the driver and Commander Suene didn’t receive any response, they had pulled over and were now coming to investigate.

She wished that the Commander had been in the back, and in the few seconds that it took the two up front to carefully make their way tot he back, she had sliced the knife across four more necks. Bracing herself to jump and run, she paused to grab a gun, and waited.

The door on the back moved slightly, and she jumped at it, driving her body weight to slam the door open, and fired two shots at the figure she saw there, the same instance she jumped over him and ran as fast as she could for the nearest shelter. A patch of grass erupted in gunfire beside her, and she felt another shot burn bast her upper arm, and then she was through a tree cover, making her way to freedom.

She had found out later that the Lieutenant she had shot had taken the shots to his body armor, so he survived, and the door had slammed into the Commander, breaking his wrist, elbow, and nose, and he was more pissed and determined to find her than he had ever been.

After that, she hadn’t heard from him in years, not after the unfortunate incident that took the lives of his wife and child. He had caught her once, and had been too close to catching her again, and she needed a way to get rid of him.  If he knew who was actually to blame for that 'accident', he would more than likely hunt her to the ends of the Earth.

Keren sat on the couch of her rented cottage and looked out over the water that circled in the cove in front of her. The sun had already set and the twinkling of the stars in the autumn sky made her smile as she took a sip from her drink.

Screeching to a stop, and jumping out of his vehicle while it was still running, Kyle motioned over his shoulder with his small control pad, both stopping and locking the vehicle at the same time. He didn’t even look as he hurried across the parking lot, knowing that the car was secure, and ran up the steps, through the door and down the hall. He skidded to a stop outside of the second conference room, pausing to catch his breath and then opened the door.

The woman at the head of the table glared at him, the look intensifying when she realized whom it was. "You were suppose to be here twenty minutes ago," Senator Plow stated.

Kyle sighed to himself and sat at the table. "Sorry."

"I trust there is a good reason for your tardiness."

Kyle fixed the Senator with a patronizing stare, then completely ignored her. He pulled out his personal computer, pointed it at the main one on the table, and downloaded all the notes and issues that he had missed. He scanned through them in less than a minute, then looked expectantly at the Senator.

Celia leaned over and whispered to Kyle, "Why are you late?"

"Busy getting laid," Kyle whispered back, perversely satisfied as Celia’s cheeks turned a deep red and she leaned away.

"Commander Suene."

Kyle looked at the Senator. "Ma’am?"

"In the future, it would be in your best interest to be on time."

"I’ll keep that in mind, Senator." He caught an unimpressed look from the Admiral and an amused look from the Directeur.

Central Access Agency Directeur Bermen cleared his throat, intent on using this man to annoy the Senator. "Commander Suene. Perhaps you can fill us in on the course of action you have been taking."

Kyle looked momentarily confused as he glanced at the notes on his computer. "I believe that Sub-Agent Taylor has already gone through the information." He paused to glance at her. "Rather well, in fact. Great job." He looked away to spare her the embarrassment of gushing over her in-depth report. "I see nothing else that I could tell you at this time."

"Well then," the Senator said in her famous arctic tones, "could you explain just why you refused to follow Keren Pelgrew when you saw her on the waterfront?"

Kyle knew that question was coming, but took a few moments to work out an answer that didn’t begin with: ‘well, you see, bitch…’. "From our vantage point, and the distance we were from her, there was no way of making it to the promenade without wither losing her or being seen by her. As it so happened, she did see us, and we managed to get some rather good footage of her. If we had followed at that point, she would have gone underground, and we would have wasted any chance of finding her before she puts a bullet in you."

"And how do you intend to find her?"

Kyle had to admit that the Senator was keeping a rather good hold on her annoyance with him. "Through three teams, we managed to trace her to a two block radius. We’re currently checking out the penthouse suites in the hotels in that area, and all for another two block radius in every direction surrounding."

"Why penthouse?"

"Because she likes staying in them," he answered simply. "There has been nothing in the past five years to indicate that she has changed that little habit, although there’s a slim chance that she may have. There’s also a chance that she herself did not rent the penthouse, and is only staying there, which would make our search just that much harder."
