A strange story of Jack Anderson a young tom-boy who usually stays jolly and loves to laugh. He lost his parents some years ago which even he doesn't know when? how? and why?. 15

Rosa and Rebeka the twin sisters and sisters to Jack. Rosa a cute chubby girl with perennial blushes on her face. A charming cut girl, loving, caring and is too attached to Jack. Rebeka a girl who is white as snow, shiny white teeth and beautiful charming eyes.16

The three orphans looked after each other with Jack the responsible elder brother. Jack worked as a paper-boy. Early in the morning he took out his bicycle riding up and down the road distributing newspaper in the Round Circle area of the city. At the end of the day he earned around $10 as wages, with $6 he bought something to have for lunch and supper, $2 he spent on ice-cream for the twins and $2 he saved in his piggy bank.17

The rest of the day was boring for the three little kids with no work, no fun. Finally they decided to sleep early, had their supper and slept. Few hours had passed when someone knocked the door, Jack woke up and in a confused way opened the door. Jack with a fear on face woke up his sisters and said, "an old man, old woman and a girl of my age, at the door."18

Three of them came together and opened the door to find them still there. Said the old man, "I am Mr. Melon, she Mrs. Margret and she Aroma, we have come to help your bringing up."19

"Are you true...",asked Jack. "Tell the truth...", said Rosa and finally Rebeka said,"If you lie, angels will beat you."20

The three strangers were there after allowed to live. They lived happily with the children guiding them, reading stories and singing lullaby. Very soon the children became friendly to them. 21

Jack became fond of Aroma and used to take her along as he went to the job. The only thing that confused him was, when he introduced Aroma to his friends, customers and others they used to laugh as if it was a joke. Very soon they all teased him by saying, "look here Jack, meet Fragrance, in the air." Then came the strange thing Aroma laughed and said,"may be they aren't able to see me." A complex statement but Jack swallowed the prickly pear.22

Mr. Melon was playing, singing and dancing all the time but sometimes he used to get really scary. He used to say that he is 50 years old. Rosa was sometimes scared at his laughter and strange stories. Mrs Margret on the other hand seemed normal, she cooked good food, she narrated stories and sung lullaby, the only problem with her was that she never ate food and never slept. Although this was the problem with all the three.23

One day Jack and his twin sisters sat besides Mr. Melon to listen a story. Mr. Melon narrated a shivering horror story of ghosts living close to some people but are never recognised. Hearing the story Jack couldn't swallow the saliva, Rosa was thunder-struck and Rebeka started to cry.24

On noticing Rebeka's cry, Rosa's shock got converted into cry and soon Jack joined them. Strange was to notice that soon the three strangers started to cry louder than the kids initially but eventually started to laugh. Said Mrs. Margret, "Relax it was just a story." The story made the poor children so shocked that they all felt sleepy.25

At night it was 12 O'clock midnight, Rosa woke up and went to the bathroom. She came out to find the house sultry and soon started to fear and cried. Jack the loving brother woke up. Upon noticing his sister cry, he went hugged her, kissed on her blushing cheek and calmed her down. No sooner did she calmed down, Rebeka woke up screaming. She saw a nightmare and couldn't explain it. So finally Jack hugged both the twins and was comforting them.26

He said, "don't cry sisters, it is all because of the story of Mr. Melon, but where are they?"27

Attending the words of Jack the sisters got alarmed and decided to look for them. Room to room they went shocked and panic-stricken when Jack found a letter. The letter said,28

"Jack and twins, went up and down,29

Looking for us in the town,30

Want to meet us Rebeka and Rosa,31

Melon, Margret and Aroma,32

Come to the back of yard,33

Here we lay in graveyard."34

Shocked and shivering they ran desperately towards the back of the lard. They found the graveyard which contained only three graves. The three children read the inscription on the grave,35

The first one read, "Mr. Steward Melon (1880-1930)", The middle one read, "Mr. Margret Melon (1865-1930)", The last one read read, " Ms. Aroma Melon (1914-1930)"36

They stood there shocked looking at each other when Mr. Melon came from behind and said,"I said it, sometimes ghosts live with you and you do not recognise". Saying this he entered his grave. Then came Mrs. Margret and said,"I do not eat and sleep as I am a ghost." and entered her grave and the Aroma patted Jack and said,"This is why they couldn't see me, I am dead, we all died in 1930, were buried alive by our own relatives as a result of their greed." 37

Thus all three entered the grave, Jack and the twins stood there for a while and then retarded to their beds, they slept whole night and woke up fresh in morning. Every night they went to the graves of Melon family to light a candle.38
