Rants of... a yearbook.

I don't know why I look at or think of things I know will make me angry. Like, for example, last year's yearbook. 1

Everyone's stupidly-smiling 1-inch photo staring up at me, looking exactly like their picture they had the year before, and the year before that, and so on. This person got braces, that one dumped this one, and she got a haircut. That doesn't bother me as much though, because I know they cannot help looking so unchanging. 2

What ticks me off is the messages people write in everyone Else's book. They all say to keep in touch, when really they just want to relieve themselves of the awful responsibility. If they really did want to "keep in touch" ,(and I'm sure SOME want to, and do) then, instead of making the empty request, they would just take the time to do it themselves. 3

Also, the fact that no matter how many times you were hurt, got stabbed in the back, were sick, or just plain hated yourself, everyone else still seems to think it was a "great year". No it wasn't, and no, lying won't change that fact. 4

I swear the yearbook staff has one mission: make everyone feel more self-conscious than they already are by taking the absolute worst candid shots and putting them all over the class pages. These pictures generally have three categories of activities: eating, laughing, or talking. (The talking category is always taken mid-sentence, so that the victim/main subject has a stupid, half-blinking, open-mouthed expression.)5

These pictures also have a 3-category description: bad, worse, and ridiculously awful. Most, if not all, fall in the last category.6

There is no way to hide from this vicious army of so-called "photographers". (Since when does holding a camera consider you a photographer?)7

In all my years at this pathetic school, I think I have seen one 'candid' that I actually liked. Maybe that one picture is the reason I'm complaining. Actually, I'm positive. That picture. It displays only me, wearing an awed expression, gazing at a blackened outline. Oh, believe me, it wasn't like that when I first received my book. And, as far as I know of, it is still in original form in everyone else's, but apparently a specific individual didn't so much share the same feelings I had towards the photo.8

I repeat that I don't know why I look at it still, since I am fully aware that I'll end up annoyed. Maybe I am convinced the scribbles will one day just not be there, or that I can still see to the underneath picture, or maybe I just want proof to justify my anger. 9

Whatever the reason, I can assure you, I will not order next year's yearbook.10

Author notes

this is probably going to be a series. maybe... just as a writing excersize. if it is, I'll make the next one "rants of...." and then whatever I'm gonna write about. Please comment.

Lol it's cute, funny. What I put in other people's yearbooks is usually a silly little poem thato nly makes sense if you know the person. What was in the background?

Ben. and him and my bf don't get along at all.... lol, and it was of us alone in the hallway I guess.. so yeah, he [my bf] didn't think I'd mind...?! lol oh well. I've done much much worse to him.
