(Talking on the phone)12

Ashley: hey Lindsey, what’s up?13

Lindsey: (reading a magazine) nothing fun I can tell you that, and you?14

Ashley: (Painting her toes) Redecorating my toes for tonight’s big bash.15

Lindsey: (sits up from her chair) what bash?16

Ashley: The one at Wild Horses, A.J’s   band Shy is performing there and everyone who is everyone’s going to be there.17

Lindsey: Damn, (pause) I have to work.18

Ashley: What time do you get off?19

Lindsey: (checks the wall clock in front of her) 10:30, when does the party begin?20

Ashley: At 12:15, when you get off work come to my house and we can get ready together.21

Lindsey: Excellent, but why at 12:15?22

Ashley: cause it takes 15 minutes to get at Wild Horses in this god-forsaken town, and besides it was A.J’s idea.23

Lindsey: wicked, I’ll be there as soon as my dip shit boss lets me go; I’ll see you then. (Hangs up)24

Ashley: Cool (Stares at her toes, her eyes dazed)25

(At Empire Records)26

Lindsey: (Yells) Jay! Get your smoky ass down here now.27

Jay (runs down the stairs confused) What! What! Damn Lindsey I was working on this great weed, man!28

Lindsey: Hey, are you going to this bash at Wild Horses tonight?29

Jay: Of course man, isn’t everybody, why, you asking me on a date?30

Lindsey: God no! (Looks back at her magazine annoyed)31

Jay:  OK man but if you changed your mind you know where I’ll be. (Walks back upstairs more stoned)32

(At Wild Horses)33

Eddie: (behind bar) Hey, Sela, I was wondering if….34

Sela: (turns around on stage) what Eddie?35

Eddie: um (grabs a beer) uh do you want a beer?36

Sela: (nods) sure (steps off stage and towards the bar) thanks.37

Eddie (hands beer to her) no problem (watches her back as she goes back to her tuning, to himself) shit Eddie (slaps his forehead)38

(In walks A.J holding a box)39

A.J: Eddie my boy look what I got you (places the box on the counter in front of Eddie)40

Eddie: What is it?41

A.J: why don’t you shut up and open it dumb ass.42

Eddie: (Grabs a knife from under the counter and starts tearing the tape, he opens the lid and inside is a pile of playboy magazines) Why the hell did you buy me Playboy?43

A.J: Because Eddie, things have changed since the 3rd grade, and (leans in putting his hand on his shoulder) I know you need some hints on getting back in the game (laughs and turns and heads for the stage with Sela, leaving Eddie confused) Hey Sela, how’s it hanging?44

Sela: doing fine now why don’t you (slams a guitar in his hands) give me a hand. (Jumps on the stage with the guitar in hand)45

A.J Yes ma’m.46

(At Empire Records)47

Darcy: (sits cross-legged on the counter beside the cash register) Jay, can I ask you a question?48

Jay: Sure, man. (Stares at the cigarette in his hand)49

Darcy: Don’t you have a home where you can get stoned and not waste my time telling you this?50

Jay: Hey, man, (looks up at Darcy) don’t be cynical men.51

Darcy: I am not a man, get out! (Points to the back door)52

Jay: Whatever you say man, (staggers out of the store)53

Darcy: Sometimes I really hate that guy.54

(In walks Lindsey from the office)55

Lindsey: Everybody does, but he does have some great weed. (Coughs) so, (walks up to the counter placing her elbow on a stack of papers) you going to the bash tonight?56

Darcy: Yeah, like I be caught dead at Wild Horses.57

Lindsey: yeah I guess not, (looks upset)58

Darcy: Why you asking me that? You know I hate Sela and her dumb little high school band? You know something that I don’t know?59

Lindsey: No, just asking. You know once in awhile you could at least be kind and like everybody else and have a life. (Shakes her head and walks back into the office)60

Darcy: why don’t you get a clue? I’m not like everyone else (scream over the music that is blaring over the loudspeaker)61

(Wild Horses)62

Sela: So Eddie (watches Eddie from her spot on the stage) are you bringing anyone at the bash tonight?63

Eddie: (looks up from his book) Uh, no why are you? (Stutter a bit)64

Sela: No I’m going stag and all being a guitar player dozen’t really get you much men. I mean not like what everyone seems. (Goes back to cleaning her guitar)65

Eddie: (watches her with an admiring stare)66

(Cody’s house)67

Jay: I mean what is her problem man? She is totally digging me but she acts like such a bitch.68

Cody: I hate to break it to you Jay but that chick is not into you, trust me I know these things. Darcy is one of those gals that hates everybody for no reason and plays games with you until your weak in the knees and then she throws you out in the mud.69

Jay: Really man? 70

Cody: Oh yeah (pause) and for the last time stop calling me man. It gets annoying after awhile.71

Jay. OK, you are such a man’s man.72

Cody (throws a pillow at Jay)73

(Talking on the phone)74

Ashley: Sela, hey how are you?75

Sela: (strumming her guitar) not much getting ready for the bash tonight and you?76

Ashley: Nothing just about to go over to Lind's to get dressed.77

Sela: Cool cause I don’t want you guys to miss our first gig, it’s going to be awesome.78

Ashley: I can’t wait (grabs her coat off the couch) I have to leave; I’ll see you at the Horses OK? 79

Sela: Yeah totally80

Ashley: (opens the door to the shop and walks into the rain) God it’s pouring really hard81

Sela: Really it’s going to be one hell of a night then. Well I’ll see tonight. Bye82

Ashley: Yeah bye (hangs up her cell and heads down the street)83

(Wild Horses, packed with teenagers)84

Eddie: Ladies and Gentlemen give it up for Shy (starts clapping as he heads down the stairs)85

(Sela starts to play her guitar in a low melody as A.J Pummels his bass guitar. Cody starts drumming quietly and in one loud break they get into their song, kids are dancing as Eddie heads behind the bar pouring drinks. Ashley and Lindsey walk into the club wearing similar outfits)86

Ashley: I can’t believe you wore the same dress as I am87

Lindsey: Hey, it’s not my fault you decided to go with the black one, when you specifically told me you were set on the red.88

Ashley: let’s just drop it and have a good time, OK?89

Lindsey: Fine, but you better not steal any of the guys from me90

Ashley: Yeah, like I will go for your types91

(Eddie sets up drinks as 2 girls are whispering and pointing to Eddie who pays little attention as his eyes are laced upon Sela who’s voice pounds through the speakers.)) She is so pretty92

Ashley: You are so crushing it hurts me to know you right now93

(Lindsey sits beside her friend as she twirls her fingers around a glass of beer) I’m sorry to say it Eddie, but Ash is right, you got to tell her how you feel.94

Eddie: what you guys talking about, she dozen’t even see me in that way (pours Ashley a glass of water and scoots it forward for her)95

Lindsey: How will you know if you don’t ask?96

Ashley: This song is almost over why don’t you go up to her before the next one starts and just tell her. 97

(The song ends and Sela taps the microphone, which echoes loudly. Cody sits back holding his sticks in his left hand waving with his right, and smiling hard. AJ lets go of his guitar as it swings behind him. He pulls the microphone away from Sela laughing in it)98

AJ: Thank you so much, that was our first song we ever wrote and it means a lot to us. We will be back for our next song, have a great time. (Steps down heading over to the bar) Oh my god that was amazing99

Ashley: (walks over and hugs AJ) You were so good hon.100

Lindsey: yeah, you were rocking101

Eddie: (taps a beer inside a glass and pushes to AJ who gulps it down) Amazing, you guys were amazing (pauses as Sela steps forward sitting down beside Lindsey) 102

Sela: Hey Eddie, can I have a glass of water?103

Eddie: Sure104

(Lindsey eyes Eddie as he hands the glass to Sela. AJ starts to kiss Ashley who wraps her arms around his neck. Cody walks over to some girls, sticks still in hand starts to chat. The girls start to giggle as he shows them his drumsticks. Eddie takes a deep breath and pursues Sela to walk outside with hi. He opens the door for her and they both step out in the cold air. From their seats they guys start to laugh. Eddie wraps his jacket around Sela who just stares up at him, eyes puzzled)105

Sela: What do you want to tell me Ed?106

Eddie: (still shaking holds in a sigh and lets it go) I’ve been wanting to say this for some time now. Um Sela I love you. I know it’s hard to understand but I do, ever since I met you that sunny day at school, I’ve just wanted to hold you and kiss you. Its so hard to feel this inside but…107

Sela: (Stars into his eyes as he talks on, and all of a sudden she pulls him to her and kisses him for a long moment. She lets go smiling) I love you too108

Eddie: (still shocked by the kiss he just laughs and holds her near)109

(Back inside, the band sets up for their last song. AJ Tuning his guitar, Cody giving a girl a piece of paper with his number on it, and Sela smiling at Eddie who is standing in the front row with Lindsey and Ashley. Sela walks up to the Mic and blows in)110

Sela: For our last song I would like to dedicate to a new love in my life. This one’s for you Eddie111

(Eddie starts to laugh as Ashley nudges his arm waving her hands in the air. Lindsey starts to jump up and down as AJ strums his guitar in a low melody. Cody taps his foot against the drums and Sela takes the Mic)112

Sela: (starts to sing)113
