Cole's Robyn Sky- Part 4

7-151

Robyn awoke bright and cheery in the morning and immediately started getting ready. She set out all of Lord Foquets clothes and equipment, which was one of her jobs as an apprentice. Then she started getting dressed for the day. She quickly did this, then set up the illusion of the girl she and Foquet were pretending to be. She slipped out of the room and came back a few minutes later with breakfast.
Robyn found Foquet up and dressed when she returned, so they ate and discussed last minute arrangements.
“Do you know how to get past security?” Foquet asked first.
Robyn nodded, “Some dropout from the school was very flirtatious and was easy to pull information out of.” She rolled her eyes, “Some boys.”
Foquet nodded impatiently, “Moving on. So, where is this breach?”
“There’s an area on the south side where a blind spot in the camera is. We can sneak past there, and make our way in. Inside, there are heat sensors, so we might want to be careful. To get to the center of the building, we’ll have to keep to the main path and go through the biggest doors. On the left.” She added.
Foquet raised an eyebrow, impressed, “You did your homework. Good job.” He was starting to get used to having Robyn around. She was very smart, talented, and found fun in everything. Well, until you brought up the subject of her uncle and broken family. Then her mood instantly darkened, and she was silent for the rest of the night.
Nevertheless, nothing seemed like work, only a game that needed to be won for her. Soon, they’d be unstoppable.
“Well, might as not dawdle for too long. We’ve got work to do!” Foquet smiled as he rose from his chair. “Coming?”
Robyn scurried to the door, “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” 2

It took an hour to get through the Llym forest. Robyn didn’t allow herself to say a word, in fear of being caught by an alarm. Her eyes darted left and right as she followed Foquet’s footsteps cautiously.
Suddenly, the large frame of Carros High came into view before them. Foquet checked his compass and then headed south. He knew behind him that Robyn probably wanted to blow the place instantly. But in order for that to happen, they needed to be in the center of the school.
Robyn took the lead as they drew near to the southern side and led the twosome to the only blind spot in the entire school.
Unseen by the camera, Foquet whispered, “Ready? There’s no turning back now.” He watched her nod solemnly and then he started transporting them into the building. It was fast and easy, so they found themselves in a janitor’s room instantly.
They shook themselves off and Robyn left with Foquet’s orders to search for anyone in the building. Foquet himself went in search of the center of the building. She walked away without a word, lifting her hood over her head. Foquet watched her disappear, and then went on his own way.3

Cole was lying on his bed, not having the best of days. He had yelled at Cassie, sent out everyone else in the school to the battlefield, leaving himself with guard duty. All because he was a bit moody.
Okay, he thought bitterly, I’m a little more then moody. I’m flat out mad. And I miss Sky. Tears began to fill his eyes as he saw a movement on one of the room TV’s he had set up in his room. Someone was in the building!
He rewound it and paused.
Cole knew revenge was close by when he saw the shadow of Foquet’s apprentice. He rushed out of his room and to the practice rooms, her apparent destination. 4

Foquet found himself in an uncommonly large room with many doors. He knew he hadn’t found out the center though. I must have missed a bigger door, he thought as he tried to figure out which door he had come out. He was surrounded by doors on all sides, which annoyed. Do they ever get lost? he wondered to himself.
Deciding on a blue door, he walked up to it, then remembered he had some out of a green door. Immediately he looked around for the closest green door. He saw one three doors down.
As he walked over to it, the blue door he had left squeaked open and a voice boomed, “Stop! What are you doing?”
Cole watched as Lord Foquet turned around slowly. Cole could tell by the look he was getting that the villain was judging him thoroughly.
“What are you doing?” Cole asked again, taking a step forward.
Foquet rolled his eyes, “I’m trying to find a way out. There are too man doors in this wretched place! How do you get around?”
Cole grinned smugly, “The most notorious villain in the land infiltrates the enemy’s base and can’t find the door he came out of?” Cole’s voice may have been strong, but he was shaking on the inside. Foquet wasn’t supposed to come for another month! They had been wrong! And now he was here, early, and with Cole being the only agent in the building!
“I know very well what door I came out of, thank you very much. I’m just having trouble locating it.” He turned around and continued heading towards the green door. Before he could reach for it, he bumped into an invisible wall. Angrily, he turned towards Cole. “What did you do boy? Open this door right now!”
“Why should I?”
“I would like to go through it! Drop the shield now or I will make you drop it!” Foquet glared at him.
The tension grew darkly in the room. Suddenly, the green door Foquet had been heading to open and Robyn slammed into the invisible wall, making both Foquet and Cole jump. She quickly caught herself and walked around the barrier to her master while rubbing her head. “The building is empty, my lord. We can proceed as planned.
Nodding to Cole, Foquet spoke, “Except for him.”
Robyn turned towards the boy, “I remember you.”
Foquet thought for a moment, “Robyn, I’m going to keep moving on. Stay here and deal with annoyance. I won’t start until you are there.”

Foquet walked around the barrier, leaving Robyn to face Cole.
“No!” Cole shouted, rushing to stop Foquet. He ran towards the door, but tripped over an umbrella and went crashing to the floor. Wait-an umbrella?
He looked up and saw Robyn’s grinning face. “You’re- you’re a girl!”
“And you are very smart. Do you do well in school?” she lifted off her hood. “My name is Robyn. How do you do?”
Cole stammered, “You’re a girl! How could you kill her?”
Robyn illusioned a cookie and took a bite, “Just because I’m a girl you think I can’t kill someone? Then again, I don’t remember killing anyone…”
“You did! And you showed me!” Cole shouted. “You forced me to watch!”
Robyn thought about this for a moment, “I did, didn’t I?” She took another bite out of the cookie. “Good show it was, if I do say so for myself.”
“Why! You monster!” Cole jumped to his feet and lunged at her. To his surprise, he passed right through her. Looking back, he saw her on the far side of the room.
“You can give a better fight! I’m an illusionist, remember? Know who you’re up against!”
Cole’s vision started dancing and he stumbled through darkness, bright light, woods, towns, plains, fields, houses, farms and straight into a running horse. It disappeared after a near-miss with the horse, leaving Cole breathless. He collapsed to the ground and thought angrily, she’s toying with me!
“Tired already? Aww, I wanted to have some fun.” Robyn walked up to Cole and kicked him in the side. “Pitiful.”
Cole suddenly sprang up like lightening, shooting laser beams through his eyes. Once again, they went straight through Robyn. “How…how did you know?”
“Know what?” Robyn asked as she created lightening bolts for him to dodge.
“That I could do that!” Cole said, sweat rolling down his face as he dodged another bolt.
Robyn shrugged, then gave a mischievous grin, “I dunno. Do you like pie?”

Before he could answer, a pie was flung into his face. He was not liking her sense of humor. All he was doing was trying to save the world, and this Robyn had the nerve to slam a pie in his face! He wiped it off recklessly and cleared his eyes.
“You’ve got to be kidding.”
Robyn had created the illusion of herself over and over again. Enough clones to circle him completely. All of the copies began to shoot more lightening bolts at him. It seemed more like a dance then a battle, and Cole wasn’t good at dancing. He started getting hit left and right, first his foot, then his arms, then his knees. For an illusion, he thought bitterly, these really hurt! It was true, he could feel his legs burning, his arms stinging, and his knees aching.
He quickly pulled a shield up around himself, repelling the lightening back to the replicas. What am I doing, he thought. I need to figure out a way to trap her, so she won’t be able to escape. A lightening bolt struck the shield, then bounced back to hit the replica. She disappeared instantly.
So, Cole thought, they disappear when touched by their own magic? An idea clicked in his head. When all but two replicas were gone, he began to build a shield around the entire room. It covered every wall and corner. He slowly decreased it in size, making it become smaller and smaller. As it passed through the replicas, the replicas quivered, then disappeared completely.
He saw the real Robyn panic, slowly realizing what was happening. She turned to run away, but the shield that was still decreasing in size started pushing her towards him. Cole let the shield slip past him, growing to fit Robyn’s size. After boxing around her, it stopped, leaving to Robyn bang on the walls, trying to find a way out.
He stood in front of her, smiling, “Only I can get in or out. Or rather, anyone I want. Don’t bother wasting your time.”
Robyn heard this, then stopped pounding. She stared at him harshly. The two were now eye to eye.
“Name your price.” Robyn said quietly, knowing no way out.
“Revenge.” Cole said, eyes glowing red. He shot a single laser bolt through the shield, which allowed it to pass through. It hit Robyn in the arm. She winced, “Haven’t felt that for awhile…”
Cole didn’t hear her mumble this and continued to shoot bolts that hit her in every spot. If she ducked, it would bounce against the other side of the shield and boomerang back to hit her from the behind. The pain was beginning to take it’s toll, and her face betrayed her emotionless expression to reveal it.
She was starting to weaken, Cole noticed. He kept shooting her relentlessly. A bolt hit her in the knees, and another in the back, forcing Robyn to the floor. The tingling sensation of pain was everywhere.
“Is what you did a good show now?” Cole yelled, increasing fire rate. “Are you smiling now?”
She collapsed to the ground, unable to move. Cole was puzzled. Although he was taking revenge on Sky’s murderer, he didn’t feel satisfied.
Shrugging off the uncomfortable feeling, he let down the shields and pinned her to the ground before she could attempt to run away. Time to finish this once and for all. Cole’s eyes started to glow red and he could feel the uncontrollable heat rising inside of him.
“Please…no...don’t do it,” Robyn moaned.
“Why not?” Cole demanded. “You’ve killed many. Why should I spare you?”
Struggling to break free, she gasped, “I didn’t kill anybody!”
“Liar!” Cole yelled, wondering why she even bothered.
“I’m not lying! It’s really me! Sky!”
“I won’t believe you! Sky died around 3 months ago, that’s killing someone!”
“No I didn’t! I’m right here! I’m Sky!” Cole jumped, accidentally shooting out a laser bolt that hit her in the head, knocking her unconscious. He felt her go limp, then he stood up. 5

She was, she was Sky? Impossible. She must have been lying to save her hide. 6

Cole heard a door behind him open. Turning around, he saw Foquet surveying the scene. “Impressive boy, to take out my apprentice.” Foquet started, “but that isn’t going to go well with my plan.”
“You won’t succeed Foquet!” Cole told him boldly, having a little more confidence in himself because he defeated Robyn.
Foquet laughed, “And who’s going to stop me? You?” Foquet became serious. “Then I will have to kill you before you can do anything to hinder me.”

Cole felt himself being lifted up by a giant hand. Flabbergasted, he realized why Robyn could eat the cookie, but the replicas could be destroyed. Even though they were both illusions, she had wanted the cookie to be real. That also explained why the lightening bolts hurt to so much.
The hand controlled by Foquet lifted him high and clenched it’s fingers around him. To keep his bones from shattering, he put up a shield that was shaped to fit his body. The hand brought him over to Foquet.
Foquet watched as Cole expanded his shield to force open the hand, which disappeared as soon as it had come.
“Didn’t think I’d make it out, did you?” Cole smirked.
Foquet yawned, “I’d have been insulted if you didn’t!”
Enraged, Cole set a full, invisible box around Foquet. To his surprise, the evil lord just illusioned himself out of it. When he did, he was met by laser beam after laser beam.
After watching Foquet dodge a few, Cole put up shields randomly so the bolts could be reflected back at Foquet.
Large stones began to materialize and threw themselves at Cole. He instantly brought up a regular shield around himself. It soon became harder for him to send laser beams due to the increasing amount of rocks being pounded at his shield. Soon he wasn’t able to shoot them at all.
Lord Foquet, bruised in many spots, was now in positioned to throw all the rocks he wanted in an attempt to break Cole’s shield. He did this as soon as he caught his breath. 7

Robyn’s eyes slowly opened. As her vision slowly began returning to normal, she saw her master pelting Cole with rocks. He’ll never make it! she thought. As soon as the shield is down, Foquet will…kill him! Robyn struggled to sit up, but fell back uselessly. As her vision faded away, she called out, unheard, “No…”8

The shield was weakening and Cole could feel it. As it was being pounded, Cole focused all of his power on the shields strength. It was a hopeless cause and he knew it. If his shields fell now, all his energy would be gone, leaving him a sitting duck for Foquet’s attack He had to hold out!
But he couldn’t. There was no way. He was getting tired. The shield was cracking. His arms and legs went numb.

The shield broke.9

Seeing it gone, Foquet stopped the rocky attack. He stepped back in preparation of the final blow.
“Now,” he bellowed, “I will test a trick that neither I nor any other mage in history has used. It will drain your power from you, transferring your ability to me. That’s to good side. The bad side is that if you show resistance, you might be able to beat me, taking my power with you. But it’s not all that bad, seeing as you’re in no position to fight. The only other way to stop me is to reflect the blast with silver, pure silver while matching my beam with one of your own. But you don’t have that either, so now I shall bid you farewell.”
As Foquet drew all his strength into a final beam, Cole tried to stand up and run away, but he was too weak. He couldn’t bring up a shield. All he could do was lay there, heartbroken.
I’m coming Sky, Cole thought as Foquet released the beam from his hands. Save me a spot in heaven, cause I’m coming.
He watched the beam come closer and closer and closer to his face. It must have been coming really fast, but Cole saw it come inch by inch. The light of it shone so bright, it blinded him for a moment.
For a moment only, for a dark shape blocked out the light and replaced it with a light of its own. It was…Robyn?
Cole was bewildered. What was she doing here? He watched her struggle to keep her beam as close to Foquet as his was to her.

“Robyn! What are you doing? Stop this madness right now!” Foquet demanded, sweat beginning to pour from his face.
She didn’t utter a word or make any notification that she had heard what her master ordered.
“Robyn! Knock it off! Move out of the way!” Foquet shouted. “Now you vile girl!”
“No,” Robyn whispered as she put more effort into her blast. “You won’t kill anyone else Foquet. Me, Cole, nobody.”
Cole’s eyes opened wide, “Who are you?”
He watched as Robyn stumbled from the pressure, but caught herself quickly. He knew it was draining her, but he couldn’t tell if that was good or bad.
If she was Robyn or someone else, she was saving his life, and he wanted her to win. Otherwise, not only would they both be dead, Foquet would be twice as strong.
“What are you doing? Get out of here! Now!” Robyn yelled at him. “Get out of the way!” Not needing to be asked twice, Cole pulled himself slowly out of the way of the fight. He laid himself against a wall and watched the two beams fight.
They were a sight to see. One was red, the other green, pushing against each other like the tectonic plates of the Earth. And like the tectonic plates of the Earth, one eventually had to give up the fight. Worriedly, Cole glanced at the master and the apprentice. Foquet was getting tired, that was obvious. But Robyn looked like she was about to collapse. Her face was set in concentration with a hint of pain. He realized that last part was his fault. 10

Robyn sent forth a surge of strength. Where did that come from? Cole asked mentally. As soon as he thought that, her image began to flicker.
She has an illusion around herself, and it’s taking up needed energy, he realized. So she’s taking it down.
Robyn’s outfit changed first. It went from all black to tan boots, white pants and a Carros High Greyno’s jacket.
That set fire alarms off in Cole’s head.
Then her hair changed from the cropped black to brown, bouncing curls.
Fireworks shot off in Cole’s head.
Finally, her face changed, revealing emerald eyes. 11

“Sky? No. You can’t be!” Cole gasped. This was unreal! This wasn’t happening!
Robyn gritted her teeth as she kept attempting to keep the blast from going.
“How do I know it’s really you?” Cole called out, hoping with all his heart. “You could be an illusion.”
“I knew your name, didn’t I?” Robyn asked him. She strained herself to keep holding on, but it was getting harder.
Foquet glanced at her, then became angry when he realized what had happened. “You! You dirty rat! You’ve tricked me, you dirt bag! Spying on me all along, gaining my trust! I can’t believe this! You will die girl! No one betrays Lord Foquet! No one!”
With that, Foquet threw out one final surge in his beam. It traveled through the beam, increasing strength. When it reached the end, it knocked Robyn’s back, and struck her in the heart. She flew back against the wall, falling helplessly to the ground.
“No!” Cole shouted, tears forming.
“Yes!” Foquet declared, “I shall rule the land as the most powerful ever! Mention of my name shall bring fear and-”
A light flashed. Foquet went silent.
Cole looked where Foquet was, or rather, had been. He was gone, and only a large arrange of blue air hovered where he had been. Suddenly, it flew where Robyn had fallen. It surrounded her, lifting her limp body, filling it with itself. Out of reflex, her body screamed as it filled her, flinging her arms everywhere. After a moment, she went quiet and fell to the ground.
It dawned on Cole what was happening. She had won. The blue air was the remnants of Foquet’s power, her prize from the battle! But how did she do it? How did Robyn repel the blast back to Foquet after being knocked down? Attempting a make-shift crawl, Cole made his way to the fallen hero. Her face and features were Sky’s, but in his heart, he wasn’t sure.
Then he laid eyes on pure silver. What had reflected the blast that had hit her.
A silver heart lay on her chest, with the letters C and S entwined together.
Cole sat there and cried for his friend. She had been gone, but now returned. She had almost died that day by his hand, but saved him in the end. She had defeated Lord Foquet. And now she was unconscious, and there was nothing he could do. Mostly, he cried of joy, for Sky was back, and everything would be okay.
