8th Grade Outcast

My family has never been normal, but it has never bothered me. Now it does. My WHOLE LIFE bothers me now. Why? Because I am an 8th grade outcast. My body disgusts me to great lengths. My weight, my skin, my hair, everything. Oh, and who am I? Certainly no Cassie or Lindsay Lohan. I am Jessica Thompson. I am a 13 year old girl with black hair and brown eyes who is annoyed with everyone and everything.1

Whoever said that loving your body makes people love you is WRONG. Loving yourself does not make people love you. It makes people believe you're a shallow lowlife a lot of the time. That's how a lot of TV stars are. Sometimes, it's wrong to judge people by what you see on TV. It's also bad to compare anyone but yourself to your standards. People in school act how stars are expected to act- shallow and perfect. Though it Amy not seem like it, they are human like the rest of us. They have weaknesses- they have foods they hate and like- enemies- a lot of things. People like me ? We're loved by a small group and we're acknowledged for our smarts or stupidity. Sort of like lower middle class. Popular kids are rich to high middle class. I know- you're wondering about "middle" middle class. They can go either way. I am "Middle" middle class and I am not popular. I am not a nerd. I'm just a girl with a sense of individuality and everyone hates me for that.2

I only have two great friends.Their names are Aria and Amy. Though my life sucks a little I never ask for sympathy. I hate it. When I need someone to hear me and give me some advice, I go to Aria. When I want someone to make me laugh, I go to Amy. People in my school- Jackson Memorial Middle school- are rude. They make racist comments about White people, about Black people, Mexicans, and other races. That's how society is...you just learn to deal with it.3

My house isn't that great. It's a plain white house with a blue roof and some rooms. Not that great. I have a stupid brother in the 11th grade. We both have black hair but my brother- Mike- spiked his hair and mine is long and flat/stringy. My brother and I are complete opposites. He's popular, I'm not. He loves hip-hop and R & B and I love rock music. Our mother doesn't even have black hair- she's Puerto Rican and her hair is blonde. I really don't understand that.4

My life stinks a lot of the time and I usually accept it- but I never realized how miserable I could be even if I did accept it.5
