Part V- Beginning the Attack

Dorothy and Gina both sat straight up in bed when the screeching alarm screamed at the entire base. Gina, being on the bottom bed, accidentally bumped her head on the top bunk.
“Attention all personnel, prepare for the attack today. This is not a drill!”
Still sleepy, the two space directors found military clothes in the closet and slipped them on. Both wore black cargo pants and a gray t-shirt with the rebel’s logo on it.
They made their way to the mall where Kevin had said the food was. They stood in line with the other soldiers and stood out because they were the only one tired and somewhat slouching.
They both received granola bars and an apple, which they rapidly devoured. Then they finished, a messenger named Jessica approached them.
“You need to report to Kevin as soon as possible.” They nodded and she walked off.
Gina and Dorothy got a ride over there as fast as they could.
Kevin greeted them at the door. “The army already has their assignments. You two will stick with me as we try to find The Three. We will have a squadron with us so that when we do find them, we can take them into custody.
“What happens if they resist?” Dorothy asked him.
Kevin looked her straight in the eye, “Then we’ll have to use forceful measures.”
“Would you do that? Would you really hurt your friends? Would you do that to Felicia?”

Kevin hesitated, “I…I…yes, I would.” Glancing around nervously, he pulled something from his pocket. “Okay, this is what we’re going to use to knock them out if they give us trouble. It contains a knockout gas and is completely harmless. You can’t tell anyone about it though.”
Dorothy smiled, “I knew you couldn’t hurt your friends.”
Kevin’s response was silence, verifying the answer. “Well, let’s head to the airplane.”
They walked over to Kevin’s personnel vehicle (a little jeep) and headed towards the runway. They stepped out and were ushered into a small jet plane.
Once seated, Gina turned to Kevin, “So, how far away is the base?”
“It’s located in an isolated area of Nevada. For all the talk they used to give about being Irish and moving to Ireland, it amuses me that they could barely leave the west coast.” Kevin gave a wayward smile. “Another funny thing is that Felicia used to hate the desert. Anyway, we’ll be there in a couple of hours.”
The seat belt light flashed and they and other planes around them prepared for take off.1

The elevator door opened and The Three walked out. The first thing they always did when they arrived at their base was check in at the information center. This room was filled with people who had gathered everything and anything The Three needed to know. They would be briefed on different situations and then would respond with a step of action which would then be carried out.
Today’s briefing was a sharp woman named Sami.
They entered a small conference room and all four took a seat.
“First thing regards your call to check up on the Resistance. A mole in their operation has informed us that they have received orders to attack this base. They left this morning and should be here around one or two. There are several hundred men, each one fully equipped to cause chaos.”
“Well, if they were bright enough to find our base, we should probably give them a little attention.” Darren said to Alyssa and Felicia.
“Okay, we’ll destroy them with red missiles instead of green ones.” Alyssa said happily.
Felicia thought about this, “No, that won’t work.”
“What do you mean? They were designed by the best.” Confused, Darren scratched his head.
“If we defeat the rebels by merely blasting them, some idiot will say that they ‘died heroically’ and continue to fight for their cause. But, if we capture the leaders and force them to disband, they will feel like they betrayed their leaders and be shamed for the rest of their lives. There will be no more opposition.” Felicia nodded, as if agreeing with herself. “The best way to handle this situation is to capture the leaders of the alliance.””
“Brilliant. But how will we accomplish this?” Alyssa asked. “Oh, of course. You’re a reality bender. Never mind.”
Darren turned to Sami, “Put the building on a silent alarm, have workers prepare for an invasion, and notify us when they are in a ten mile distance.”
Sami furiously wrote down the commands and shoved the paper to an awaiting assistant who ran to carry out the orders. She turned back to them and smiled, “Shall we continue?”
Three nods encouraged her on.
“Your space craft is ready to launch. Because of this…delay that will occur in the next few hours, it has been set back accordingly. You will have enough time to capture the Rebel leaders, change and board the ship. For today, that is the important news. If you would like to read the reports from moles around the world, a packet will be waiting in front of each of your doors.”
The Three nodded, each said their thanks to the woman and left the room. They took the elevator to the third floor and started plotting for other schemes. 3

“We’re here. Are you two ready?” Kevin asked as the plane descended.
Unsure, they both nodded. In truth, Dorothy and Gina weren’t excited by all of the players involved in the battle, but alas, who could redirect fate’s will?
The plane had landed about three miles away from the base. It was a summer afternoon in Nevada and temperatures were well above 110 degrees. No one was happy about the weather, but what they needed to do needed to be done today. Stepping out of the plane, Dorothy and Gina were greeted by a shower of hot air.
“No wonder they picked a place like this. Who would want to come way out here?” Dorothy grumbled.
They took a ride in another jeep that stopped a mile before the hideout with the building plainly in sight.
“Okay, here’s what’s happening. Another squad will be heading into the building. Their job is to find an entrance to the base. Once they have that, we will head in to search for The Three. Once we find them and capture them, we can destroy the one-world government and restore power to each country. Stick close to me and you won’t get lost.” Kevin then took out a radio from his pocket. 5

“All units! Report if ready!”6

“Unit 1, good to go!”
“Unit 2, good to go!”
“Unit 3, good to go!”
“Unit 4, good to go!”
“Unit 5, good to go!”
“Unit 6, good to go!”
“Unit 8, good to go!”
“Unit 9, good to go!”
“Unit 10, good to go!” 7

“Where is unit 7?” Kevin yelled into the radio.
“Sorry, batteries died. Unit 7, good to go!”
Sighing, Kevin continued on, “Units 2 and 3, go ahead and storm the base. Remember, once you open the door, they’ll know you’re there. Try not to hurt anyone.”
“Roger that, we’re going in.”8

The next few minutes were very tense. Kevin carefully watched the two groups sneak up to the building. One leader found a side entrance and slipped through it, followed by the rest of the two groups.
Five minutes passed. Then ten. Fifteen. At twenty minutes to the second, a voice came over the radio. “Inside of floor 1 has been secured. All personnel have been located and are being watched. No entries to lower levels have been located.”
Kevin nodded as the man began to speak in code. “Copy that. Continue to search; we’ll be joining you momentarily.”
Dorothy and Gina weren’t sure what Kevin’s reaction was to the report.
He turned to them, “Well, good news is they have successful invaded the first floor. Bad news, none of the employees know of any secret base beneath the building. They are calling my army crazy for thinking that anyone would be stupid enough to build a base in the middle of the desert.”
“You don’t think…” Dorothy began to ask.
“No! This is NOT the wrong building!” Kevin replied with a roll of his eyes.
Dorothy shrugged, “Just checking.”
“So, now what?” Gina asked, peeking through the rocks to look at the base. She noticed a graveyard on one of its sides. Disgusted, she wondered why there was a graveyard in the middle of nowhere.
“Now…now we infiltrate the base ourselves.” Kevin called a squadron of men over the radio and the group appeared behind them. They all hopped in cars and drove to the parking lot in front of the base. As they were looking for a spot to park, Gina smiled to herself. The only thing holding them back from saving the world was the lack of a parking space.
Finally, they found one and the group entered the building.
A leader met them at the front. “Sir, you are free to wander the first floor. No entrance has been found to below, but…”
A crackling voice on the radio suddenly interrupted the conversation. “Sir…we think we’ve found something, a stairway in the back leading downward. Investigating…”
Everyone grew tense as they waited to hear the latest discovery.
“Long hallway…one door…sign says “Chemical Arachnid room…going in…OH MY GOSH!”
Kevin immediately began to worry so he grabbed the radio. “What did you
find?”
“There’s…glowing chemicals and spiders! Everywhere! Someone’s gone mad!”
Kevin and everyone else seemed puzzled. Turning to the group, Kevin sighed, “Looks like we’ll have to find it on our own.” 9

The entire army searched for an hour. Every duct, door, wall, and floor was thoroughly checked. The only thing anyone learned was that for a porti-potty factory, this place smelt good.
Gina, Dorothy and Kevin were walking towards the front of the building when Dorothy asked again, “Are you sure that we’re in the right building?”
Kevin glared at her, “Yes. I’m very sure.”
Gina’s attention drifted away from the conversation. Her gaze traveled to a janitor’s office near the front door.
Why would a janitor’s office be right next to the front door? She broke off from Kevin and Dorothy and wandered into the closet. It was rather small and having two big racks piled with cleaning and other things, it seemed to be crammed. Her eyes searched until it hit something out of the ordinary.
“Kevin, Dorothy…I think I found it.” Gina called to them. Having not even noticed that she had left them, they scurried over to her.
“It’s…it’s…” Gina stuttered, glancing around in deep thought.
“It’s what?” Dorothy asked.
“Gina, what did you find?” Kevin added questioningly.
“It’s so obvious! Duh! The secret entrance is always in the closet! Usually, the closet is in the back of the building, but this on is in the front because people would think it’s in the back.” Gina nodded to herself happily. “Only something Felicia would do.”
“Okay, I guess your logic makes some sense, but can you prove this is the place?” Kevin asked her. She pointed to a tiny emblem painted on one of the racks. It was the Danny Phantom emblem.
“How did anyone miss that?” Kevin shook his head in disbelief. Gina pushed it, and the trash can in on of the corners turned into a screen. “What floor?” A mechanical voice asked.
Immediately, Kevin called the rest of his leaders and told them of the development. He tried to contact his special squadron, but they didn’t answer.
“Maybe The Three are onto our usage of the radio and are setting a block?” Dorothy suggested. “Radio silence might have been smart.”
Kevin hadn’t thought of that. Dang. They might have known the whole time the base was being infiltrated. Accepting this information reluctantly, Kevin told the voice to take them to the second floor.
