The Unlucky Me - Chapter 15

I walk down the street and to the park. I sit in the baseball field and let Fly run around (on her leash though). 1

I start thinking about my fucked up family. My mom has a sister (My aunt Grace) and one brother, Tom. He is somewhere. We have no clue. He hasn’t spoken to any of us in 6 years. His is unmarried and has no kids. 2

My dad has two brothers and one sister. One of his brothers died. He had cancer. He had one son and a wife. She is remarried and his son committed suicide 1 year after his father’s death. He killed himself on the same day his father died…just a year later. 3

My dad’s other brother is married and has two kids, both girls. Stacy who is 12 and Mariah who is 5.4

His sister is remarried. This is her 3rd husband. She has 3 kids one boy and two girls. Alex, who is the only boy, is 14, Morgan who is 8 and Danny (short for Danielle) who is 3. 5

I see my aunt a lot. She comes to visit us and we go visit her. We’ve went to all 3 of her weddings too. Alex has problems in school and gets into trouble a lot. Me and him are close. We hang out a lot when we see each other. 6

David’s family is very different. I don’t really know a lot about them. His mom doesn’t really like us that much. Of course she likes my mom, Karley, Sydney, and Mason but the rest of us she thinks are troublesome kids. A lot she knows. She baby-sits Everett and Sidney all the time. Cause mom doesn’t trust me or Mason with them. David’s father lives far away and we’ve never met him. David is an only child too. Which explains why he’s so bad with kids. 7

Fly runs over to me and starts licking my face, bringing back from my thoughts. I pet her head and get up. We walk home very slowly while I wonder what Aunt Grace is going to say about us this time. 8

When we get home, I put Fly back in her cage. She immediately lays down and starts to fall asleep. 9

“Good. You got her tired” Mom says sleepily. 10

“Yeah. What did she wake you up last night?” I ask smiling. 11

She nods and yawns. I glance at the clock. 8:30. 12

“Did Shane call?” I ask13

“Nope” mom says14

“oh” I say frowning. 15

“I’m sorry hun. Why don’t you call him?” She says.16

“I think he’s mad at me” I say17

“Oh well I’m sure he’ll get over it soon.” she says yawning again. 18

“Yeah prolly” I say sitting down on the floor. I look at the TV. Monk is on. “Where is everyone?” I ask19

“They’re all out. Mason is at Tina’s. Karley and Jimmy went out with friends and Jake is still at the hospital with Kelly and the baby” mom says sleepily. 20

“Ohh” I say sighing afterwards. “Where’s Sydney?” I ask looking around and just seeing Everett sleeping on the couch.21

“Oh. She’s spending the night at grandma’s” mom says. 22

“David’s mom?” I ask23

“Yup” mom says24

“Oh” I say25

Everett HATES going to David’s mom’s house. She doesn’t let him do anything but Sydney loves it cause she gets anything she wants. 26

I watch Monk. It’s the episode where he goes to a school and all the kids shine lasers on him and he freaks out. I feel bad for Monk. Its not his fault. Yet its funny how much he freaks out. 27

After Monk is over I go to bed. 28

The next day I get up at 10 in the morning. I get ready for the day which takes about an hour. Then I walk downstairs into the kitchen. I grab a bowl, spoon and a box of cheerios. I pour some cereal and milk into the bowl and then walk into the living and sit on the couch. I turn on the TV and onto Carton Network. Ed, Edd and Eddy is on. 29

After I finish eating I stay on the couch watching TV. After about 10 minutes the phone rings. I get up to answer it. 30

“Hello?” I say
“Is this the Scott/Lee residence?” a women asks
“Yes it is” I say
“Ok. We have a Chase Bump here who would like to talk to a miss Ginny Lee at this residence.” the women says.
“Uhh….this is Ginny Lee” I say
“Oh. Well would it be ok with you to talk to Chase. He gets one phone call per week now and is using it to call you” the women says
“Yeah…that fine” I say sitting back down on the couch.
“Ok……here you go Chase. Now remember, you only have 30 minutes” the women says31

“Hey” Chase says
“Hey bud. How are you?” I ask
“I’m good. This place isn’t that bad. Has pretty good food” he says
“That’s good” I say
“Man Ginny……I wish I could get outta here” He says
“I know bud. I want you out too. I miss you ya know?” I say
“Really? You miss me?” He asks
“Yeah Chase. I miss you tons.” I say
“wow. I never would have believed it. Someone in my family actually MISSES me” he says
“awww come on Chase. Don’t put yourself down. Your family misses you. Well at least WE all do” I say
“Thanks Gin. Hey do you think you could come and visit me sometime? I haven’t seen a friendly face since I got in this joint” he says
“If my mom lets me. I’ll ask her about it soon. I promise” I say
“Ok. Thanks Ginny. You don’t know how relieved I am to hear your voice” He says
“Awww Chase. “ I say
“So…how’s what’s his name? Sh…..something” he asks
“Shane?”
“Yeah that’s him. How is he?” he asks
“Ok I guess. He’s kinda mad at me right now cause I’m going out with a guy that he thinks will break my heart” I say
“Ohh….well that’s good that you have a guy to protect you like that” He says
“Yeah…I have too many guys protecting me. Jake, Jimmy, Shane and Mason.” I say
“Don’t forget about me” Chase says
“And you” I say laughing.
“Yeah man. Don’t forget about poor old little Chase Bump who is in frickin Juvy for peet sakes” he says
“I’m sorry” I say in a soft voice
“Aw its iight Gin. I still love ya” he says
I laugh. 32

We talk for a while about how it is at the home and how it is at home and tons of other things until he has to go. 33

“Well Ginny. I gotta go. My minutes are up. I’ll prolly call you again in a couple of weeks ok? I’m gonna try to call my mom next week” Chase says
“Your mom is gonna be here Chase” I say
“Oh really? Well could I call there?” he asks
“Yeah sure” I say
“Ok. Well bye Ginny. Don’t forget about me” he says
“I will never forget you Chase. I love you cuz. And I miss you like hell. I’ll ask my mom soon ok” I say
“Ok bye Gin. I love you too and I miss you too” He says and hangs up. 34

I hang up the phone and go out into the backyard. Mom and Karley are tanning. David is out riding his motorcycle. Everett, Jimmy and Mason are all in the pool. 35

I walk up onto the deck where mom and Karley are. I sit in a chair and say “Hey mom. You’d never guess who just called?” 36

“Who?” she asks in an annoyed voice. 37

“Chase” I say38

Her eyes jolt open and she sits up fast looking at me. Karley does the same. 39

“Chase?” my mom says40

“Yeah. That’s what I said. Chase called me” I say41

“Hmm….that’s…..weird” mom says leaning back again and closing her eyes. Karley does the same again”42

“How is that boy?” Jimmy asks43

“He’s pretty good” I say, walking off the deck and towards the house. 44

I walk back in and let Fly out of her pen in the kitchen. She runs into the living room and onto the couch. I follow her. I go to pet her and she bites my hand playfully. I grab one of her toys off the floor and play tug with her.
