Waiting for Sunday: Scenes 11-19 [end]

Scene 11 - 1

Jessica wakes up and goes through the usual morning procedure. Out of her room, down the elevator and on the beach. Today was unusually different though. It was Intriguingly unlike any other day. Right beside her sun chair was Steve. Beside Steve was a colossal sand castle with intricate detail. Next to the moat were seashells. She walked around it to get a clearer view. The seashells spelled out “I love you”.2

SC # 11 - Tonight Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins3

SC # 12 - Small waves.4

Wow, Steve. This is beautiful! JESSICA5

STEVE - I’m sorry I couldn’t bring you heaven. 6

JESSICA - You already have… 7

Jessica looks into the sand castle. She closes her eyes and imagines what her life would be like if she were with Steve. 8

JESSICA - I mean, since I’ve been here you’ve made me forget about all of my family problems and look at the good things. My father was never there for me. He was a drunk most of the time and would beat my mom. All I ever wanted was a simple carefree life and finally I’m seeing what that life feels like. 9

A tear runs down her cheek and she smiles.10

STEVE - Jess? I’ll always be here for you no matter what. You know, tomorrow some kid will probably trash this castle but hopefully it’ll always be in your heart. I want it to be there for you when you need it. I want to be there for you when you need me. 11

JESSICA - That means so much to me. I’m so glad I came here and I met you. Things have been so amazing. I’m actually happy now. 12

STEVE - I’m glad to hear you feel that way. 13

He smiles.14

STEVE - I have another surprise for you. Follow me. 15

JESSICA - More surprises?… 16

They try not to get caught as he takes her down the idle stairways and through the back employee exit. Then Steve has two getaway motorbikes awaiting their arrival. 17

STEVE - Hop on. Lets go. I’m going to take you far away but you have to keep riding. 18

JESSICA - Okay… 19

The camera has a birds eye view now of Jessica and Steve riding on the highway. They are going very quick and finally get off at an exit. Steve helps her off the motorbike. Jessica realizes that he has brought her to an exquisite looking restaurant.20

SC # 13 - With You - Jessica Simpson.21

STEVE - Here we are. They serve steak! 22

She laughs.23

JESSICA - Awww! You’re so cute thanks so much. What would I ever do without you? 24

STEVE - I’m not too sure. Lets not think about that. 25

They kiss each other. 26

Scene 12 - 27

The sun has set and the night is dark. They are both laughing as they approach the hotel. 28

JESSICA - That must have been the best steak I’ve ever had in my entire life. 29

STEVE - Good. 30

He dodges behind a Sunquest tour bus and grabs her. After dodging many security guards they finally get inside the hotel. It is very late and the sports bar and disco is where everyone is conversing. There were pool tables and foosball tables in the twenty-four hour sports bar and a dance floor in the disco. They enter the sports bar and don’t even get to sit down before they are confronted.31

ARNALDO - What do you think you are doing? 32

JESSICA - Papi, what do you mean? 33

He grabs her arm with great ferocity and tries to take her outside of the bar.34

ARNALDO - What are you doing with that English boy? You are marrying Manuel and if I see you with any other man, especially an English one, I will kill him! 35

STEVE - Wait a second. Who is Manuel? 36

JESSICA - Some guy in Canada that he wants me to marry because he’s Dominican! 37

ARNALDO - You are dead young lady. You think you can just go gallivanting with this insane English piece of dirt? 38

JESSICA - This is not about me! This is about you regretting the fact that you married an English woman. It wasn’t even her fault that she divorced you, it was your own fault. You are the one to blame for going out and getting drunk every night, not coming home until early morning and then abusing all of us. 39

ARNALDO - You shut your mouth. Who gave you permission to talk about these… lies? Go to your room right now! As soon as I can get you out of this hotel I will!40

STEVE - You are such a son of a bitch. You have the most amazing daughter here… 41

ARNALDO - Who do you think you are calling me that? You don’t even know me. And you mean to tell me that - 42

STEVE - No! You listen to me for once because I know more about your own daughter than you do! She doesn’t need the verbal or physical abuse you give her. You take her for granted. For years she has been yearning for your acceptance and all you do is shut her out of your life. 43

Arnaldo punches Steve. They begin to fight. Everyone surrounds them as beer bottles begin to break, screams begin to deafen and thoughts intensify.44

ARNALDO - You need to shut your mouth before you’ll be sorry. 45

Jessica pulls Steve away from her father.46

JESSICA - This is about me and you. Don’t get him involved. 47

ARNALDO - Go to your room! 48

JESSICA - I’m not a child anymore. You can’t feel superior like you did back home. Mom was right, people will never change completely. I was so naïve. I’ll never be able to forget the trauma you caused us.49

SC # 15 - Fighter - Christina Agulera50

Jessica furiously grabs Steve by the arm and walks out of the bar with him. Arnaldo orders the security guards to watch his daughter. A heavyset security guard takes Jessica’s frail arm and tears it from Steve’s blue shirt, ripping it at the sleeve. Fury and tension build up but Jessica knows she cannot rebel due to her lack of size and strength. The security guard throws Steve onto the floor and pushes Jessica into the elevator.51

Scene 13 -52

Jessica closes the door to her room. She looks outside the peephole of her door and there are security guards watching for anyone entering the room. 53

SC # 16 - Perfect - Simple Plan54

Jessica reluctantly looks at the telephone sitting by her bed. She picks up the receiver and calls Steve’s room. She whispers to him giving him precise directions.55

JESSICA - Walk up the stairs and climb from the hall to my balcony through the sliding doors. I left the door open. 56

She quickly hangs up the phone. When he comes in they kiss. Then they stay in bed and watch Spanish music videos.57

SC # 17 - Television. 58

JESSICA - I love this song. But the red roses are so cliché don’t you think? White ones are so much better. 59

He laughs.60

She picks up the daily newspaper from her dresser. 61

JESSICA - I love how the cleaners leave newspapers every day. I don’t have to go and buy one at the store. It’s in the comfort of my own hotel room. Look at this! Wow, I can’t believe she won best Latin American dancer! 62

She begins to dance alone and then looks at Steve.63

JESSICA - Want to dance? 64

STEVE - Umm, I would if I could but I’m horrible at dancing.65

JESSICA - Oh, come on! 66

STEVE - No, really… I can’t. I don’t know how. 67

JESSICA - Okay, okay. 68

All of a sudden there is a knock on the door. The knock turns into continuous thumping along with demanding comments said in Spanish by Jessica’s father. 69

ARNALDO - Jessica! Abra la puerta derecha, ahora mismo! 70

Jessica! Open the door right now! 71

Steve gives Jessica a quick kiss on the cheek and leaves the way he came. The nippy night wind blows the curtains behind him. Jessica turns off the light and throws her covers on top of her to make her father believe that she was sleeping the whole time. Security guards burst into the room. Arnaldo just looks at his daughter sleeping and leaves the room. He looks a little more peaceful when he leaves because he sees that his daughter is content.72

Scene 14 - The next morning.73

Jessica wakes up to a delicious breakfast in bed. Next to her plate is a single white rose and all around her are white rose petals. Steve is sitting on the balcony and when he finds that Jessica has awoken he gives her a kiss.74

STEVE - Good morning sunshine! 75

JESSICA - Good morning. What is all this for?76

STEVE - For being a complete jerk last night. 77

JESSICA - You weren’t a jerk, believe me.78

STEVE - I have something planned for today. 79

JESSICA - Are you crazy? After last night you want to do some other crazy thing? 80

STEVE - Jess, I’m in love with you. I want to be with you. Now I know this is crazy because I just met you but I want nothing more than to be able to spend the rest of my life with you. Love is a crazy thing I guess. You’re amazing. I can’t live without you. 81

JESSICA - Let’s go. 82

She grabs his hand. 83

JESSICA - I can’t take this anymore. For the first time ever I’ve found true happiness. You came into my life and now it’s going to be so hard for me to please my dad… but I don’t care about that anymore. All I care about is you. 84

A single tear drops down her cheek. The camera follows it as it falls.85

Scene 15 -  On the ocean86

That teardrop in the last scene has transformed into the ocean with glistening sunshine laid like a silver linen upon it. Steve and Jessica sit in their rented motorboat with scuba gear. 87

STEVE - Are you ready? Jess, don’t be scared. Nothing is going to happen. 88

JESSICA - I’m gonna go for it. I have to overcome my fears. 89

They both dive into the ocean. 90

SC # 18 - Water splashing.91

Jessica admires the marine life. The beautiful reefs and gorgeous multicolored fish. Steve signals for her to follow him. She sees what seems to be a shark fin and turns the other way beginning to swim away. She looks back for him to see if he follows. Jessica realizes that Steve is very close to a bottlenose dolphin. He signals for her to come back. She touches the animal. It is seemingly content and relaxed. Steve wraps his leg around the dolphin and pulls Jessica on with him right before the dolphin swims away. The camera has moved to a birds eye view of Jessica and Steve in the middle of the ocean on a dolphin riding into the sunset. The sun sets.92

Scene 16 - 93

The night is crisp and starry. Jessica and Steve are enjoying an innocent drink as security guards and other travelers send them vicious looks. Both of them ignore the diversions. They are both in their own dream world.94

STEVE - Let’s watch the show tonight! 95

JESSICA - Why? They are always so corny. Nothing exciting… 96

STEVE - Who knows, maybe it will be tonight. 97

The camera zooms into the announcer of the nightly show that the hotel has organized. The man has dark skin and puffy black hair. He is wearing a gray tuxedo with a red carnation in the jacket pocket.98

ANNOUNCER - Buenas noches senoras y senores.  Good evening ladies and gentleman. 99

Tonight we have a special presentation by Jessica and Steve.  101

They both proceed onto the stage. 104

SC # 19 - Dos Locos - Romeo y Julieta.105

He takes her hand and they begin to dance.106

JESSICA - Wait a second. I thought you didn’t know how to dance. 107

STEVE - I didn’t. Some nice older lady with a harmonica and a family to feed gave me lessons. Am I any good? 108

JESSICA - You’re amazing. This is the greatest thing ever.109

Suddenly a security guard pulls Jessica off of the stage. 110

JESSICA - What do you think you’re doing?! If my father sent you tell him to screw off because it isn’t about what he wants, okay? For the first time this is about what I want. 111

SECURITY GUARD - Jessica, I have some bad news. It’s not about this guy. It’s about your mom… 112

JESSICA - What? What about my mom? 113

SECURITY GUARD - She tried so hard to contact you but could never get through because Arnaldo told reception to block any of her incoming calls. She’s had Pancreatic Cancer for the past two months now. The doctors told her she’d been diagnosed right when you left. They said they did all they could. No one could have done anything more to help her. I’m so sorry.114

She begins to cry hysterically. 115

JESSICA - I need to go. She needs me. I wasn’t there when she needed me and look now! She’s dead! 116

STEVE - Don’t say that Jess, it’s not your fault! 117

She runs to her room. Flops on her bed with her face in a pillow and continues sobbing. Suddenly there are flashbacks of her mother and their sensational moments together. Scene one is a bright, dynamically sunny June day when her mother taught her to ride a two-wheeler. Scene two is Jessica’s tenth birthday. Her father is nowhere to be seen in this flashback but her mother gives her a red box with a bow and a cake with eleven candles, one for good luck. The third and final scene is when they talk about their dreams and future endeavors. Jessica snaps out of her happy thoughts and realizes even more that she will never be able to be with her mother again. Camera zooms into her eye and the mascara that is dripping on her white pillow.118

Scene fades to black.119

Scene 17 - The Airport 120

SC # 20- Anywhere - Evanescence 121

Steve is carries Jessica’s luggage. He sets it down by her black sandals and looks into her forest green eyes. She hugs him, smiles and then begins to cry.122

AIRLINE ANNOUNCER - Flight 5G now boarding. 123

STEVE - Jess, if you ever need anything I’ll be here. Remember that. If you feel like you need to talk and its four o’clock in the morning you can call me. 124

JESSICA - I’ll be back. I promise you. Right after the funeral I‘m coming back. Steve, you’ve been the only one who ever understood me. I love you too much to ever leave you and never come back. You can count on me. 125

STEVE - Hun, I love you too and I want to be with you forever. You mean the world to me. 126

JESSICA - As soon as I get back on Sunday we’re 127

STEVE - getting married!128

She closes her eyes and smiles. He puts a pink flower in her hair. They kiss. 129

The camera zooms into the pink flower Steve placed in Jessica’s hair. 130

Scene 18 - 131

The camera zooms out from the pink flower Steve placed in Jessica’s hair during the last scene and onto Jessica sleeping in the plane. She suddenly wakes up as the turbulence begins to increase.132

PILOT - Please! Passengers please keep calm!!! 133

SC # 21 - Emergency Sirens Sound134

There is piercing screaming coming from petrified adults, children and infants. Jessica closes her eyes and thinks about Steve. She thinks about their week long adventure, the day they went horseback riding, how he took her such a long way for a steak just to please her. She thought about the breakfast in bed, the rose petals he distributed all around her room and the pink flower he had given her. She takes the flower out of her hair and looks around at the others who are panicking. She looks at the flower in a daze, seemingly a dream of her own on a castle in a cloud. Suddenly she envisions the sandcastle crumbling to the miniscule grains they once had been. 135

JESSICA - Nooo! 136

She wakes up as if she had been in a nightmare. She doesn’t know where she is. While liquid drips from her pale face she realizes it isn’t her sweat or tears but rather the salt water from the ocean.  Jessica is on a flat board in the middle of the ocean only meters away from the plane which is in flames and slowly moving deeper into the ocean. She faintly sees “Skytravel” on the side of the plane. The plane has crumbled just like the castle Steve built for her. He built her dreams of a wondrous future. 137

SC # 22 - View From Heaven - Yellowcard138

She feels weak and notices her chest is bleeding. She has a gouge through her left breast. Slowly Jessica closes her eyes and lets go of the flower. It seems to be so alive. The color is just as bright as it had been when Steve first presented it to her. She whispers while holding her heart.139

JESSICA - I love you… 140

Scene 19 - 141

Steve is sleeping in his hotel room when a cleaning lady pushes his door open and throws the daily newspaper on Steve’s dresser. The headline reads “Plane from flight 5G crashes just outside of La Romana, Dominican Republic - No survivors”.142

SC # 23 - The Scientist - Coldplay 143

Steve pops straight up out of bed sweating with a worried look on his face. He whispers.144

STEVE - Jess?… 145

Scene fades to black. Music continues to play.146
