Richard and Diquel Chapter One1

It started out with a boy and a kitten. The boy was named Richard and the kitten was named Diquel.2

Richard was a fourteen-year-old boy. He was short and weak. His hair was jet black and long enough to reach his shoulders. His eyes were blue and usually danced with fear. He was often afraid of things that don’t exist-at least not in this world. 3

Diquel, the kitten, was an orange tabby. His eyes were bright yellow that shined like the sun. Diquel’s tail was constantly moving back and forth.4

Richard was feeling as though he was haunted. And, boy was he correct.
Messages appeared from nothingness. He saw frightening faces dance before his eyes. When he slept he had terrifying nightmares. But the worst was he kept seeing visions.5

Richard heard a noise outside, some sort of beast kept roaring in his back yard. Richard knew there was no way it could be a lion or tiger. He peered out his window and he spotted a spider’s web.6

In silky strands the spider web had a shocking message that only Richard could see! He read the message and started to tremble as he read the words “GIVE UP OR DIE!” Richard’s hands quickly rose to his eyes. The boy shouted “LEAVE ME ALONE!!!”7

The beast replied, “I will not rest until I taste your blood.” The beast’s eyes were bright red and glowed in the dark of night. Richard shined his flashlight into his backyard and saw the beast for the first time.8

The beast had eight hairy legs on each side of his body. His teeth were yellow and looked very sharp. His eyes popped out like a crab’s eyes would. He was so red he looked like he was burnt. He roared over and over again like a crazed tiger, but he didn’t look like a tiger at all.9

Richard and Diquel went into the back yard and were surprised by how cold it was. They started to shiver, they were not sure if they were shivering from cold or fear. He shined his flashlight around his back yard until he found the beast.10

The beast came up and grabbed Diquel! Richard started to scream. Diquel was his best friend. Richard saw his old baseball bat lying in the deep, green grass. He ran to it and picked it up. Richard hit the beast in the stomach, being careful not to hit Diquel. The beast lurched in pain, and grabbed his stomach. Diquel went flying into the night air and into Richard’s hands. Richard was proud that he had saved his best buddy, Diquel.11

Richard had thought the beast was dead. But he was not. Silently the beast crept up behind Richard. Richard was so busy making sure Diquel was not harmed that he didn’t hear the beast sneaking up behind him. Diquel meowed and Richard dived out of the way of the beast’s deadly arms. Richard ran into his bedroom and turned out the lights and dove under his bed covers. On the sheets read another message “I WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU!!!”12

While Richard was hiding under his bed covers he heard “BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!” The beast came into Richard’s bedroom. He went under the covers and scared the living daylights out of Richard.13

Diquel got up and suddenly said “MEOWWWWW” and scratched the beast. Black blood oozed out of the beast and onto Richard’s white bed sheets. 14

Richard asked, “Now who’s afraid of who?” Richard found an old fashioned shaving blade that his grand father had given him. He stabbed the beast not once, not twice but three times. Black blood escaped the beast’s body and was all over Richard.15

Suddenly, as the beast lay dying on the bed, Richard felt a power he had never felt before. He took the blood and covered himself with it, although even to this day he does not know why. The blood gave him the strength of at least ten grown men! Richard was braver now too. He didn’t understand what was happening to him, but suddenly he felt stronger than he ever had before. He was not afraid anymore, but he had a feeling that things were going to get worse…a lot worse.
