The Unlucky Me - Chapter 10

We walk down the street. Matt hands me some flyers and asks me “Do you know anyone that lives around here that would wanna come to my party?” 1

“Uhhh….not really. I figured you’d know everyone since you are popular” I say2

“Yeah…I kinda do.” says Matt.3

I nod and we just keep walking.4

After we hand out a lot of flyers Matt walks me home and up my door. 5

“Thanks for helping me” He says6

“No problem” I say.7

He wraps his arms around my neck and I wrap mine around his stomach. 8

“Ginny…….I want you to know that I’m here for you. I know you have problems and I don’t care. I know you are a cutter and I won’t tell anyone. But you worry me Ginny.” Matt says. 9

I let go of him and look at him in the eyes. 10

“Thanks Matt. I worry myself too. Please don’t tell Shane that I cut” I say11

“He doesn’t know?” Matt asks12

“No…And I like it that way…well for now ok?” I say13

“Ok” he says “I won’t tell him. I promise” 14

“Thanks” I say15

“Well I prolly should go now” Matt says16

“Ok bye Matt” I sat17

“Bye Ginny” Matt says leaning forward. He kisses me on the cheek and then walks off the porch and down the street. 18

I watch him go down the street a little bit and then go inside. 19

I go upstairs and into my room. I turn on my stereo and lay down on my bed. I can’t stop thinking about Matt as Slow Down by The Academy Is… is playing through the speakers. 20

After a while the phone rings. Someone downstairs answers it and then I hear Jimmy yell “Ginny! Phone! Its Shane!” 21

I pick up the phone in my room. 22

“Hey”
“Hey Ginny, how are you?”
“I’m good. Iffy but good now” I say
“That’s good. I miss you” he says
“I miss you too” I say
“So what have you been up to?” he asks
“Nothing really and you?” I say
“Shopping, hanging out with my cousins, pretty much family shit” he says
“Cool. I’ve been…uhh…hanging out with Matt” I say
“Really?” says Shane quietly
“Yeah. He’s so sweet” I say
“Yeah…I guess” says Shane.
“He is” I say
“So are you and him going out?” Shane asks
“No. We’re just friends” I say
“Ok good” Shane says
“Why is it good?” I ask
“Because…he’s not your type” Shane says
“How do you know what my type is?” I ask
“I dunno.” Shane says
There is a silence. 23

“GINNY! Dinner” My mom yells24

“I gotta go eat dinner Shane ok?” I say
“Ok. I’ll talk to ya later” Shane says
“Ok bye” I say and then hang up not letting him say anything else. 25

I walk downstairs and get my food. I sit down at the table. Dinner went well actually. Everett and Sydney kept fighting so mom and David paid attention to them through dinner. Jimmy and Mason were signing to each other and me and Karley just sat there.26

After dinner I walk upstairs and into my room again. Again…the stereo…this time MakeDamnSure by Taking Back Sunday is playing through the speakers. 27

I sit on my bed writing a letter to Shane. Hey I’m bored so why not.

I think about something to say and then write “I hate summers. They are soo boring and now that you aren’t here there is NOTHING to do.” 28

After I get done writing I look at the clock. 8:21. I sigh and get up. I turn off the stereo and walk downstairs. 29

Mom and David both are in bed already. Mason isn’t in the living room. He wasn’t in his room either. 30

“Where’s Mason?” I ask Karley. 31

“He’s over at Tina’s” she says32

I roll my eyes and sit down in mom’s chair. 33

“I know. She’s just sing him to get MORE popular. I bet you anything that’s what she’s doing” says Karley34

I raise my eyebrows at her and say “ Wow. We actually agree on something” 35

She laughs and says “Yeah. I hate her” 36

“Me too” I say smiling. 37

I watch TV for about an hour and then get bored. 38

I tell Karley that I’m going outside and then I open the door. I walk out. Its still light out. The little kids that live across the street are outside playing, their dad playing with them. I sit on the porch and watch them. And before I know it tears are running down my face. My eyes don’t leave the little kids and their dad even as the tears start coming faster and more. I was sobbing by the time Mason pulls into the driveway at about 9. 39

He runs up to me. Asking me “what’s wrong” over and over again trying to get an answer out of me. I finally say “I miss dad” and then start crying again. 40

“Oh Ginny” Mason says. He sits next to me and takes me into his arms. My eyes finally leaving my neighbors.41

Mason rocks me back and forth saying “Its ok” repeatedly. 42

I cry for at least an hour and finally we go inside to find everyone in bed. 43

“Mason, can you sleep with me tonight?” I sign to Mason. 44

He nods and we go upstairs. We walk into my room. He gets right into my bed. I walk over to my dresser, grab my pjs and go into the bathroom. After I get them on I climb into bed next to Mason and immediately fall asleep. 45


The next day I slept in till about 2 in the afternoon. I sit and watch TV all day after that.
I go to bed at 10:30, falling asleep to the sound of Runaway by Cartel playing through the speakers. 46


When I wake up I look at the clock. Its almost 10 in the morning. I climb out of bed and walk over to my dresser. I grab a pair of dark blue jeans and a plain light blue tank top. I walk into the bathroom and close the door. T turn the shower on and get in. I feel the warm water wash over me and I feel relaxed. 47

When I get out I get dressed and brush my hair and teeth. Then I take the hair dryer and dry my hair. Then I straighten it with the straightened. Then I put on some foundation, light blue eye shadow with a tad of dark blue eye shadow on the top. Then I pit on some dark blue eyeliner. I look at myself in the mirror. My long brown hair flowing over my shoulders. 48

The reason for me getting all dolled up: Jake and Kelly are coming home today. We are going to pick them up at the airport. 49

I walk downstairs. Karley, Jimmy, Mason, mom and David all stare at me when I walk into the living room. 50

“What?” I ask51

“Wow” both Jimmy and Mason say52

“Yeah. Wow. Ginny…..you look….amazing!” says Karley. She gets up and hugs. 53

“You actually look like a GIRL” she says after she lets go of me. 54

I roll my eyes. She smiles. 55

“Well. Arre we gonna go now?” I ask56

“Yes…once Sydney and Everett come down. They are getting dressed” mom says 57

I nod. 58

When the twins come down we leave. I get in the car with Jimmy and Karley and Mason. Sudey and Everett ride in David’s car.

It’s an about 1 hour drive to the airport. Then we are going out for dinner at a fancy restaurant. That’s why I got dressed up. 59

When we get to the airport Jake and a very pregnant Kelly are standing in the lobby thing. I run up to Jake and give him a huge hug. 60

“Hey Kiddo” he says hugging me back. Then I hug Kelly. 61

“Wow Kelly. It looks like the baby is about to just burst out” I say. 62

She smiles at me and says “I know hunny. My back is killing me.” 63

“I’m sorry. Here I’ll carry your bags” I say64

“Thank you hunny” Kelly says. 65

We all walk out to the cars. I help Kelly into David’s car. Jake sits next to her and then Sydney sits next to him in the back. 66

Everett rides in the back of Jimmy’s car with me and Mason.
