Desolation 1

Siting at my desk I gaze upon a sheet of paper as blank as my mind at this precise moment, looking for inspiration.

Gradually my surroundings change and I find myself
standing at the centre of a white wilderness, a wilderness whose inhospitable landscape stretches endlessly from horizon to horizon flat and unbroken.
The sheer emptiness and desolation of it forcing itself upon my senses intimidating me.
Tears well up from my eyes only to freeze upon the lids glinting like diamonds in the midnight sun.2

Unknown to me as I stand here so utterly, utterly alone in this desolate and featureless landscape devoid of any life form other than my own, that high above me a kindred spirit looks back longingly from the emptiness of space ,floating without direction in the endless void, he drifts on unseen and unheard his lifeline severed. 3

His visor briefly reflects a shaft of sunlight from a distant sun a billion miles away, and blinks briefly like a beacon in the endless black vacum as he is drawn onwards towards a distant galaxy. And all the while an inner voice screams over and over I am alone, if you are near to me lord god reach out your hand. 4

Beneath his endless passage through the heavens, waves rise up from the ocean depths in mountainous form and the great blue whale dives for cover two leagues below, and the Albatross glides on silent wings held aloft by an Arctic wind, oblivious to the cold and inhospitable sleet driven mercilessly across the desolate and unforgiving wilderness of water.
Standing on the rigging of a great sailing ship, seafarers tremble as the thunder of white horses reach their ears as they near the ill named Cape of Good Hope.
And yet amid such desolation there exists an oasis, where for a short while such feelings can be laid to rest. When the limit is reached and sanity threatens to depart, mans indomitable spirit comes to the fore. And for a short while he transcends all that has gone before and finds for a brief moment in eternity, an inner calm.

    WOW

The way you used your words to describe the setting and the character's emotion was very amazing! it made the human mind imagine it easily, and realistically. it was a really great story.
