The Unlucky Me - Chapter 8

I wake up the next morning feeling well rested. I open my eyes and immediately close them again. The bright sun blinding me. I sit up and lean against a rock. I look at the water….its so clam and peaceful. 1

“Ginny?” I hear2

I look around and see no one3

“Ginny?” I hear again. 4

“Over here” I yell5

I hear people yell “She’s over there”6

Then I see Jimmy and Mason come out from behind some brush. 7

“Ginny” Jimmy says8

Jimmy runs up to me and gives me a huge hug. 9

“Thank god you’re ok” He says10

“Uhh….Yeah I’m ok. Who said I wouldn’t be?” I say11

“I dunno. I was just worried.” Jimmy says. 12

He helps me up and I run over to Mason. I look at him and he gives me a stern look and then a worried look. I smile at him and hug him. He hugs back. 13

After we let go I ask Jimmy “How’d you guys know where to find me?”14

“This guy named Matt called the house last night and told us where to find you. But Mason said we should wait until morning to come and get you so yeah” he says15

“Oh” I say…..my mind wanders off to Matt. 16

“Well lets get you home then ok?” Jimmy says. 17

“Yeah. Can we stop at Matt’s house first” I say. 18

“Yeah sure kiddo. Me and Mason will wait outside in the car” he says19

I nod and we walk through the field, onto the tracks, then down the steep hill, through the other field, through the park and to Karley’s car. I get in the back. Jimmy and Mason get in too. Jimmy signs to Mason where we’re going and he nods. 20

We pull up in front of Matt’s house. I get out and walk up to the door. I take a deep breath and knock. 21

Matt answers the door. 22

“What do ya want?” He asks23

“I just want to thank you for telling my family where I was.” I say24

“For real?” He says25

I nod26

“I thought you’d get mad” he says27

“No. I’m not.” I say28

“Ok….good” He says29

He looks down at his shoes. 30

“Matt…..I’d really like to be friends with you” I say31

“Yeah?” He says looking up at me32

“Yeah. Cause as you prolly know I don’t have much friends and you seem like a cool kid and yeah” I say33

“Yeah. I guess we can be friends.” He says. 34

“Good” I say. “Well I gotta go. Uhh….you can call me later if want ok? I would call you but I don’t have your number” 35

“Yeah…I’ll call ya later. See ya” He says36

“Bye” I say37

Before I walk away I walk towards Matt and kiss him on the cheek. He turns pink and I laugh. He smiles and says “Bye Ginny” 38

I walk away and he closes the door. 39

I get in the car and Jimmy drives away. 40

“So….Who’s this Matt kid?” Jimmy asks me. 41

“Just a new friend” I say smiling. 42

“Oh really? He says. It looks like he fancies you” Jimmy says43

“Shut up” I say44

He laughs. The rest of the drive home was pretty much silent. 45

When I walk into the house I was almost knocked over by my mom, Karley, Everett and Sydney. 46

“Thank god you are ok” says mom hugging me and kissing my forehead. 47

“Again….why wouldn’t I be?” I ask48

She just ignores me and hugs me again. 49

I wriggle out of her arms and I walk over to Karley. She hugs me and surprisingly I hug her back. 50

“I told mom and everyone the big news” She whispers into my ear. 51

“Cool” I say back52

After she lets go I squat down to give Sydney and Everett hugs. They hug me back. 53

“Ginny, why did you leave?” Sydney asks54

“Aww Syd. Its complicated hun. I’ll tell you when you get older ok?” I say55

“Ok….I don’t care. Just as long as you always come back” Sydney says56

I smile and hug her again. 57

“Ginny. I want you to know that you made us all very worried” mom says. 58

“I know mom. Where’s David?” I ask changing the subject. 59

“He’s out getting something” She says apparently dropping it too. 60

“Getting what?” I ask61

“Well hun. He wants you to like him. Honestly I think he’s going over the top….but…..we couldn’t stop him. Remember how you’ve always wanted a dog?” He says62

“Yeah” I say63

“And how you want a Australian Shepard” she says64

“Yeah. And you said no cause they are too expensive” I say65

“Yeah..well David just went to a farm about 3 hours away just to buy you a damn puppy” She says smiling. 66

“Are you serious?” I say67

“Yes hunny. He’s getting you a little girl is that ok?” she asks68

“Yeah…that great” I say “And this ALL because he wants me to LIKE him?” 69

“Yes dear. All so you will like him and possibly stop being mean to him” She says giving me a look. 70

I roll my eyes and say “Ok ok….I’ll be nicer to him.” I say71

“Great” she says bringing me into another hug. 72

I walk up stairs and lay down in my bed. Turning on my stereo on low. Silently singing along to Heel Over Head by Puddle of Mudd. I fall asleep and the next thing I know is someone is knocking on my bedroom door. 73

“Come in” I say sleepily. 74

Someone opens the door and I see David holding a puppy with a blue bow around its neck. It’s a mixture of black, brown, white/cream. The perfect Austraian Shepard. 75

“Oh my god” I say sitting up. 76

David walks over to my bed and sets the puppy down. I pick it up and put it in my lap. 77

“It’s a little girl.” says David sitting on the edge of my bed. 78

“Sweet” I say. “I’m gonna name her Fly” 79

“Beautiful name” David says80

“Thanks.” I say81

“Well I’m gonna go take a nap or rest. Drving for about 6 hours is a long time.” David says82

He gets up and starts walking. 83

I get up say “David wait” He stops and I walk up to him. 84

“Thanks” I say and I give him a hug. He hugs me back and I felt him relax85

“Your very welcome Ginny” He says86

I let go and walk back over to me bed. Fly was chewing on my blanket. David walks out and I sit down on my bed watching Fly. 87

“She is wonderful” I think to myself.
