Aevin looked into the mirror, checking her reflection for the fourth time. 1
It's not that I'm vain, she thought to herself, I just need to look good, after all, it IS my brother's funeral.2
Adjusting her cloak for the last time, she stepped outside into the sunlight. Squiting, she made out the funeral procession, already walking towards The Gates. 3
"Shit." she spoke aloud, scaring the nearbye pigeons. Her approach had been so silent, not even the birds had heard her, "Get over it you rats with wings, be happy I'm not eating you!!!" Her bad mood was increasing by the second, and having to go to some funeral for someone she had never met just mad it worse. Her thoughts constantly drifted back to her room and the spell book, hidden beneath layers of charms. Aevin snickered, remembering the headmistresses searching her rooms for the missing books, and coming up with only dust.4
"Boo." Seiei, her companion, spoke as he jumped behind her, grabbing her waist and spinning her around to face him, "Watcha up to?"5
"Nothing, go away Seiei, I'm not in the mood." Aevin spoke, sounding harsher than she meant to, She turned away, her long blue hair billowing over her shoulders and falling into his face, "Sorry Sei, but I need to go, its my bros. funeral......"6
"Like you care, what's his name?" Sei asked, grabbing her wrists tightly, "You never have time for me, I'm sick of it! If we weren't formerly companions I would leave, ok?? So either listen to me and tell me what is going on, or I declare us seperate at the next Meeting!!!"7
"Sei......." but Seiei was already leaving, she chased after him, her cloak fluttering to the ground as she unclasped it to run faster. "Wait, I'm, I, I'm, I'm sorry Sei, I'm really sorry...."8
"Are you sure?" Seiei turned, looking her up and down. It had been an empty threat, he loved her to much to leave her, but he had to see if she was truly sorry. If she truly loved him back. Pleased with what he saw in her eyes, true sorrow, he nodded, and held out his arms. Aevin ran to them and started sobbing into his shoulder. She hated every second of it. Crying like a useless child, weeping uncontrolably, but she couldn't stop. She loved the feel of his arms, she loved the way he smelled, everything about hiim made her want to throw away her life just to be with him.9
"Aevin-" His thraot was suddenly dry, he realized he had never seen her cry. She was so strong, to strong even. She never asked for help, and her magical abilities were unsurpassed by any of the other students. He looked at her not only with love and reverence, but with respect. "Aevin-" He tried again, but no difference was made. She just clutched to his cloak tighter and sobbed harder. It seemd as though all the tears she had never criend were spilling out over her eyes. The thick layer of eye paint she wore left black streaks down her face.10
