The Unlucky Me - Chapter 7

We walk for about 5 minutes. I lead the way. 1

“Where are we going?” He finally asks me. 2

“My favorite place in the world” I say3

“Oh ok” he says. 4

Walk up to an old park and through a field and then up a very steep hill. Matt follows me the whole way. We stop at the top which showed old train tracks. 5

“Woah. How the hell did we get all the way up here?” He asks. 6

I laugh. 7

“Come on. We’re not there yet.” I say. 8

“Are you kidding me?” he asks. 9

“Nope” I say10

“Man…..I’m not use to all this walking” He says. 11

“I am” I say12

We walk on the train tracks. After about 15 minutes we walk off the tracks and down another hill. Not as steep as the other one though. 13

“Are we there yet?” Matt asks14

“You just sounded like my little sister. And no. But almost.” I say grinning15

“Ok. Good. Cause I’m gonna die soon.” He says. 16

“No you ain’t” I say17

We walk through another field and finally I stop in front of a lake/pond thing which has a pretty big waterfall. 18

“Wow” says Matt when we stop. 19

“Yeah” I say. “Come on” I add. 20

We walk up to some huge rocks and I sit on one. Matt does too. 21

“I come here a lot. Just to get away. Ya know?” I say22

“Yeah. I would too. If I knew about it and if I was in better shape” He says23

I laugh. 24

We sit in silence for about 5 minutes. 25

“Gin I gotta tell you something” Matt says. 26

“Yeah I have to tell you something too” I say27

“Well you go first” He says. 28

“No, you” I say29

“Ok….Ginny….uhh….I….I….” he says30

“You what?” I ask looking at him. 31

“I’m just gonna come right out with it ok?” He says. 32

I nod, knowing where this was going. I knew he liked me. Shane told me. Honestly I don’t really like him back. I mean I like him as a friend but that’s it. 33

“Ginny…I like you. I mean I REALLY like you” he says. 34

“Really?” I say35

“Yeah” he says. 36

“Yeah…I kinda knew. Shane told me” I say37

“Shit” he says. 38

“Its ok Matt. I mean I like you too. But just as a friend ya know?” I say39

“Oh” he says his head hangs low. 40

“I’m sorry. Can we still be friends?” I ask41

He nods. 42

“Ok good. Can I tell you something now?” I ask43

He nods again. 44

“I lied to you” I say45

“Huh?” he says with a confused look on his face. 46

“I really wasn’t running again. I ran away” I say47

“From what?” he asks48

“My house” I say49

“Oh….why? I mean if you want to tell me” He says50

“Yeah I want to tell you. But you’ve got to get one thing straight. I have problems. And when I go home….You are prolly not gonna see me for a while.” I say51

“Why not?” He asks. 52

“Because…..ok here is the story. In short terms though. Me and my mom were fighting and it got out of hand. My mom started crying and then my older sister Karley yelled at me for making my mom and I flipped out on them both” I say53

“And then you came to my house?” He asks54

“Well yeah. I was running away from the house and I figured since I was close to your house that I’d come to see. You know since Shane ain’t home” I say55

“Yeah. Well I’m glad that you came to see me. But I have the feeling that you’re just using me. Ya know since Shane isn’t home you’ll just come to me and tell me all your problems. Even though I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about” He says. 56

“No…Its not like that” I say57

“Forget it Gin. I’m just gonna go home. I have to go home soon anyways.” he says. 58

“Its only 7:45” I say looking at my watch59

“Yeah…..I’ll walk slow” he says. 60

Then he gets up to leave. I watch him walk away as tears just flow down my face. I let them this time. I move my legs up onto the rock and I hug my knees. I put my chin on my knees and stare at the water. My vision is blurry from the tears. 61

After a while I look at my watch. Its 8:30. I remember that Shane was suppose to call me tonight prolly. I didn’t really feel like talking to him right now. So I decided to spend the night there. I get off the rock and lay on the grass. The nice comfortable grass. It was long grass too. I had a sweatshirt and pants on. I curl up and put my head onto my arms. After a little bit I fall asleep to the sound of crickets chirping and frogs croaking.
