The Unlucky Me - Chapter 5

I watch him skate away and then close the door. I turn around to see both Mason and Karley staring at me and smiling. 1

I flip them both off and sit on the couch. 2

Karley sits next to me and Mason sits one of the two chairs. One is my mom’s and the other is David’s.3

“So……how was it?” Karley asks after a short silence.4

“How was what?” I ask stupidly5

“The kiss?” she says. 6

I look at her and see her grin. I punch her hard in the arm. 7

“Oww. What was that for?’ Karley says rubbing her arm. 8

I smile and say “cause you’re a nosy bitch and the kiss…was good”9

She smiles and I look at Mason and see that he is smirking. I throw a pillow at him. 10

I turn to look at the tv and then something hits me in the side of the head. I see the pillow on the floor. And hear Mason laughing. 11

I just let it go and look at the tv again. I hear footsteps on the stairs and then Everett and Sydney both come running into the living room. 12

“Morning Morning Morning” they yell. 13

“Morning” Mason, Karley and I all say softly. 14

After a while Karley gets up and says “Well I probably should get dressed and ready. I have to go pick up Jimmy at the airport in 2 hrs” she says. 15

She looks at me and I smile. She walks out of the room and up the stairs. 16

After about an hour she comes back down with a light pink tank top on, white skirt that goes almost to the knees and white sneakers. Her dirty blonde hair isn’t pulled back like it usually was. It was down and straight. She was very pretty. Both me and Mason stare at her with a look of awe on our faces. 17

“What?” she asks and signs looking at us with a confused look. 18

“You look beautiful” says Mason. 19

“Yeah you do” I say. 20

“Well thanks guys. You know Gin. If you’d stop wearing guy clothes you’d look even more beautiful than me” she says. 21

“Yeah ok” I say rolling my eyes. 22

She sighs and walks into the kitchen. I look at Mason who is looking at me then Karley then me and then Karley again. 23

He finally stops and smiles at me. I smile back and turn to the tv. The Grim Adventures Of Billy and Mandy is on. With the subtitles on the bottom so Mason can watch too. It was the episode where Billy and Grim switch places and Billy becomes a short Grim and Grin becomes a very tall Billy. Its not the best episode but still funny. 24

After it was over I walk into the kitchen. Karley is sitting at the table reading the paper and eating a bagel. I grab an apple out of the fridge and sit at the table too. 25

“So Jimmy is coming here?” I ask26

She nods.27

“Where’s he gonna sleep?” I ask28

“With me duh” Karley says….her eyes not leaving the paper.29

“Oh” I say taking a bite of my apple afterwards. 30

After about 10 minutes Karley gets up and says “Well I’m leaving now. You kids be good.”31

“We won’t” I say smiling32

She rolls her eyes, grabs her small hot pink purse and keys and leaves. 33

I walk up the stairs and get in the shower. After that I walk into my room with a towel wrapped around me. I grab a pair of black jeans and a white t-shirt that says ‘I like reading poetry, long walks on the beach and poking dead things with sticks’ After I get dressed I put on some foundation and some dark blue eyeliner. Then I walk downstairs. 34

During my shower and getting dressed and everything I couldn’t stop thinking about Shane and that kiss. 35

Mason was still sitting in the living room watching tv. Everett is sitting at the kitchen table eating Lucky Charms. Sydney is sitting in the living room coloring and singing to herself. I think to myself “Mason is lucky he can’t hear her sing” 36

I walk into the living room and over to the door. I slip on my black and pink Adios on. 37

“Where you goin?” asks Mason.38

“I’m going for a run. Can you watch the kids till I get back please?” I sign39

He nods. I walk over to him and give him a hug and sign “Thanks” before I leave. 40

I walk out the door and run down the steps. I start running down the street and just concentrating on what’s ahead of me and my breathing. After about 30 minutes I stop to take a brake. I am standing on the side of the road bending down and breathing heavily when a car pulls up next to me. I stand up straight and look in the car. I see a kid I go to school with. His name is Matt. He was in the passenger seat and another kid from my school is driving. His name is Billy. 41

“Hey Ginny. What ya doin?” Matt asks. 42

“Running and you?” I say43

“Oh we’re just riding around. Where’s Shane?” he says. 44

“He’s on vacation.” I say45

“Oh. Well you wanna hang out sometime?” He asks. 46

“Like when?” I ask47

“I dunno. Just sometime. I’m having a party soon. You can come to that. My parents are going away and its just gonna be me and my sister and she’s all for it. You wanna come?” He says48

“We’ll see. It depends when.” I say49

“Well how about you give me your number and I’ll call you either tonight or tomorrow and tell you when it is ok?” he says50

“Ok. Got a pen and paper?” I ask51

“Only a pen. You can write it on my arm” he says52

“Ok” I say. I write Ginny: and then my number in my best writing. 53

“Sweet. Well I guess I’ll talk to ya later then” he says. 54

“Yeah” I say. Then they drive off. 55

I start running again. I run for about 40 more minutes around town and then go home.56

“How was your run?” Mason asks when I walk through the door. 57

“Good” I sign. 58

“Everett and Sydney are at grandma’s. She came and picked them up. Supposedly mom called her and told her to come and get the kids cause she didn’t trust us watching them.” Mason signs. 59

“What? We’ve watched them all the time and nothing ever happened” I sign60

“Yes it did. Remember that one time Everett fell and had to go to the hospital to get stitches on his chin and then that one time we lost Sydney in the store and we found her an hour later. She was sitting on the floor in the freezer isle eating ice cream.” He signs. 61

“Oh yeah. And remember that one time we told Everett he could bring home that frog from the park and it ended up in the bathtub while David was taking a shower” I sign laughing. 62

Mason laughs and signs “That was so funny”63

“But still. She can trust us for a day with those kids. Don’t ya think?” I sign. 64

“Yeah I know. But all well.” Mason signs. 65

I just shrug it off. I sit down on the couch and after about 5 minutes I hear a car horn beeping like crazy outside. 66

I walk over to the window and see Jimmy and Karley pull into the driveway.
