The Unlucky Me - Chapter 4

I hear him walk down the stairs and slam the door on the way out of the house. My window is open so I hear him throw his skateboard hard on the road and he yells “Fuck”1

For some odd reason I smile. After a couple of seconds I hit myself in the head. Wondering why the hell I was smiling after what just happened. Then all of sudden I burst out crying. I turn over onto my stomach and cry into my pillow until I fall asleep. 2

When I wake up I look at the clock and it says 6:00 pm. 3

“Shit” I say “I missed dinner” I add4

I get up and walk out into the hall. 5

I walk past Mason’s room and see him laying on his bed reading a magazine. 6

I walk in and he sees me. He sits up and signs me to sit next to him. So I do. 7

“Why have you been crying?” He signs8

“I flipped out on Shane today. He’s leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks too.” I sign. 9

Mason pulls me into a hug. I hug him back. 10

After he lets go I roll up my pants and show Mason what I did. 11

He stares at the cuts and then looks at me with tears in his eyes. I know he hates seeing me hurt and seeing all the cuts and scars that are on me. 12

“I’m sorry. I just had to” I sign to him. 13

“Its ok” He signs back and pulls me into another hug. I can feel him crying. His tears soaking my hair and I start crying too. My tears soaking his shoulder. 14

When we break apart he leans down onto his pillows and I rest my head on his chest. He rubs my back and I close my eyes. 15

The next thing I know is that the birds outside are chirping loudly and I’m still in Mason’s bed with him sleeping right next to me. We both have blankets on. 16

I get up slowly trying not the wake up Mason. I walk out of his room and downstairs. 17

Mom is sitting at the kitchen table. “Morning” she says. 18

“Mornin” I say19

“David is coming home early today cause he has a doctors appointment so please be nice” she says. 20

“I am…He always starts it” I say21

She gives me a look at doubt. 22

“I swear mom. He’s not good at the whole dad thing. I try to get along with him. I just don’t think he likes me” I say23

‘Of course he likes you. He loves you all. But he is still new at the dad thing. I have to agree with that.”24

I drop it and get a bowl of Froot Loops. I sit at the table and start eating, 25

“Are you doing anything today?” mom asks. 26

“Probably not why?” I say27

“Well I was wondering if you could watch Ev and Syd today so I don’t have to take them all the way to the babysitter’s house again” she says 28

“Will you pay me?” I ask29

“I suppose so. But its not gonna be much. I’ll give you thirty for the day Deal?” she says30

“Deal” I say grinning. Thinking of what to buy. 31

“Ok. Well I’ll be home at about 4 ok?” she says. 32

“Ok. Bye mom.”33

“Bye hunny”34

She grabs her purse and keys. My mom works for a magazine company. She makes quite a bit of money too. 35

I look at the clock. It said 7:23 I groan and the thought of the long day ahead and walk into the living room. I sit down flipping on the tv. 36

I turn it on MTV and watch music videos. Dani California by Red Hot Chile Peppers comes on. All of a sudden I remember that Shane was leaving today at 8. I get a sick feeling in my stomach. I feel guilty about yesterday. Then all of a sudden someone knocks on the door. 37

I get up and walk over to it. I open it and its Shane. 38

“Hey. I know you’re pissed at me but I couldn’t leave without saying goodbye. So goodbye Gin. I’ll call you sometime.” he says and then turns to leave39

“Wait Shane” I say40

He turns and walks towards me a little. 41

I run into him and hug him tightly. He hugs me back. We stand there for about 5 minutes hugging. 42

When we finally pull apart he looks at me in eyes and leans towards me. I stare at him and don’t realize that he is getting closer. 43

He kisses me on the lips and then pulls away, blushing. 44

I stare at him with big eyes and shock on my face. 45

His face turns really red and I laugh which makes him more red. 46

“Its ok. Would it make you feel better if I kissed you back” I say. 47

He nods with a smirk on his face and I grin. I lean forward and kiss him on the lips longer than he kissed me. 48

We pull away and he says, “Well. Bye Gin. I will call you as soon as I can ok?” 49

“Ok. Bye Shane.”50

We hug each other again and then he leaves. 51
