The ambulance pulled you away from Gerard before he could answer and before everything went black.
You were in a hospital gown and a blood transfusion was being pumped into through the back of your hand it was extremely hard to breathe. A plastic tube was crammed down your throat into your lungs so you could breathe. Everything was weird waking up. Your eyes constantly wandering not really focusing on anything. The moonlight poured into the room from the open window and a dark mass lay leaning over your bed rising and falling slowly. You felt like an alien experiment knowing a bag of someone else’s blood was being pushed through your body. The respirator made so much noise. It hurt your ears. And knowing that you couldn’t scream for help made you feel vulnerable. You slowly watch as the black blob gets closer. Its not what you thought it was. It gets closer and closer and the only thing you had strength to do, is squeeze your eyes closed tight. You lay there feeling the warm breath on your face. A monster. It couldn’t see you. It couldn’t see you if you couldn’t see it. It could feel you, if you couldn’t feel it, if you couldn’t hear it, it couldn’t’ hear you… it couldn’t. you squeezed your eyes tight and at once it was gone. Your eyes slowly slipped open.
It day time. The sun poured in through the open window. A blood transfusion was filling your veins. A breathing tube was still crammed down your throat, it was loud. It really fucking hurt to breathe much less move. You looked down and saw a large black blob by your size, steadily rising and falling. You came to realize that It was just Gerard. Your hand was sweaty from him holding it for long. You slipped your hand away and wiped it on your blanket. A nurse walked in and noticed you were awake.
*Oh, You’re awake* she said in a happy tone.* you looked at her with the most uncomfortable look. *would you like me to take that out for you?* you nodded. You were surprised Gerard was still sleeping. You were surprised he was even there. He was so pissed off at you. In the alley. He said it was over. Was it really over?
*Can you sit up for me?* you struggled to sit up.
*Yes that’s very nice. Let me check your wound.* she said pushing your sleeve up to pull away the gauze wrapped around your arm, which was also in a sling. You looked confused. She smiled again as she took off the bandages when she spoke.
*You were shot in the back. Well obviously…hehehe… well anyways. It traveled at an upward angle, it missed your heart just barely, missed your arteries and as it punctured your lung it shattered your collar bone and exited. A fairly clean exit wound. It didn’t bounce around too much. it made one of your lungs collapse which is why this machine here is plugged in. But the angle of the shot was weird. You were probably shot by someone shorter than you. Or someone was crouching down. you also lost an amazing amount of blood the reason why it was so weird is because the bullet didn’t do much damage except your collar bone and your lung. Where you stressed in any way to make your blood pressure raise? * you looked over to Gerard. And closed your eyes. * He’s been here since the moment you arrived. He was outside during x-ray. He agreed to pay extra to get you your own room so he could stay with you. It’s actually quite romantic. He said that he didn’t see the guy who shot you, he said that he ran away too fast. Okay, you’re all healed up from what I can see…. So lets see…. Ok, I need you to cough on the count of 3. Kay?* you nodded. *one….two…THREE.* you coughed and she pulled the tube out of your throat. You grasped a hand around your throat and lay in pain because you moved the shoulder that was attached to the shattered collar bone and you whimpered.
*I’m going to go tell the doctor that you are awake. Oh yeah. you are a very unique girl, you have no allergies, but you have a RARE blood type. In fact we didn’t have any extra blood to give to you. We couldn’t get a hold of your father as a partial donor, so you would have surely died from blood lost. He donated a lot of his blood. He’s in a wheel chair because he is so weak now. He’s been giving up a few pints of his own blood every other day. I feel sorry for him.*
*How long have I been here?* your voice wasn’t the same. It was raspy and your throat was dry. Everything hurt. EVERYTHING. It hurt to turn your head, move your arms, swallow, talk even breathe.
*You’ve been here for almost 2 weeks.* she said as she nodded goodbye and left. Gee stirred a moment you saw from the side of his head his eyes pull open slightly.
*Gee..* you whispered he immediately sprang to life and looked at you. His eyes sunken in deep, his skin paler then you thought it could ever go. Paler then when he was in the hospital when he lapsed into his coma.
*Cass, you’re awake….*1
