The Fairy and the Human: # 2, Teenager Terror Towards Tomatos

Judy tapped her pencil on the smooth cold desktop in her first class. She could barely pay any attention to the teacher. Her mind was lost in a whirlwind of excitement and dread. She could barely comprehend the events of the morning. Ashley, the little fairy boy was perfectly framed in her mind and her wish still rang in her ears. How could she wish for the fairy to be her friend forever? Why did she say those words out loud? Out of all the wishes out there, she had to pick the one that she made on her sixth birthday. She wasn’t even sure if the fairy would come through with his part of the deal. She wanted to test it out. She wanted to taste the magical words on her lips. To feel that surge of mystical powers that she hasn’t felt since she was a tiny girl with a plastic fairy wand with matching crown. She opened her mouth and licked her lips and was about to utter the magical words that would make her feel like her life wasn’t in a boring rut.1

“What is the answer, Ms. Rosengard?” A booming voice knocked her out of her irregular daydreaming. Judy sat there for a second, dumbfounded. She stared up at the teacher for some sort of signal but got none.2

“I, uh, don’t have enough information to answer that.” Judy came up quickly, trying not to seem like an idiot but the giggles behind her already confirmed that she was.3

“You don’t have enough information on the date of the bombing of Pearl Harbor?” The teacher raised an eyebrow.4

“Oh wait, it took me a minute, my brain must be fried this morning. It’s December 7, 1941.” Judy explained. She thought she heard some snickers from behind but she could ram her sneaker into their throats for all she cared. The teacher stared down at her for a few seconds then broke the glare and turned to torture another absent-minded student.5

Judy frowned at the crashed dream and the harsh reality of the early morning and of the irritated teacher. It’s not like her to daydream but when she had the power to summon a fairy, how could she keep her mind on the real world. And if as long as she had her tennis racket, she can twist him to do whatever she wanted. The fairy boy will have to wait until after school. There is no telling what kind of havoc he might deploy on the innocent bystanders. Judy couldn’t guess what kind of power he had but if he could grant wishes, he must be very powerful, but his powers could only be limited to that. She would have to test this theory, but later, when it’s just her and him and her tennis racket.6

The class seemed to drag on with every second then finally the low toned bell echoed through the school and the first block was over. Only three more classes to go to see her new fairy friend. She couldn’t understand why she was so excited but she was and couldn’t wait until the end of the day to end this mundane chore of school. 7

“Hey Judy, wait up.” A voice down the hall cried out. Judy paused and a bouncy red hair jumped up next to her. The girl was a head shorter than Judy with a short cut just barely below her ears. The body was skinny enough to spread over bread and her skin was the same shade as milky white butter. Everything about this girl was adorable and cute and Judy couldn’t help but wonder why she wouldn’t go into modeling.
“Hello Jessie, how are you today?” Judy gave a gentle smile.8

”Super, and you?” Jessie smiled back. Judy shrugged.9

“I’m alright.” 10

“You’re lying, there’s something you’re hiding. Did something happen to you last night like you met a cute boy and you have fallen madly in love with him?” Jessie eyes widen.11

“Well, I did meet a cute boy.” Judy honestly answered. She wasn’t going to tell her friend about the fairy without getting strange looks and a lot of questions she didn’t want to answer. 12

”Finally! Finally you’re going to find a man and enjoy the wondrous world of dating!”13

“I wouldn’t go as far as to say dating. We’re just going to be friends, good friend.” Judy couldn’t help but grin.14

“I see that smile. There’s nothing wrong with liking a guy. Guys are cool and fun to date and maybe Chase and I and you and your mystery boyfriend can go out to the movies together.” It was obvious that Jessie was showing more emotion about this guy that Judy was.15

“I don’t think so.” Judy replied. “He’s not my type at all. He’s kinda short.”16

”You’re too picky.” Jessie’s voice went high pitch and attempted to mimic Judy. “He’s dumb, he’s too short, he’s got weird hair. Just go out with a guy already!”17

“I’ll go out with a guy when I feel like it, thank you very much. This is my class, I got to go.” Judy quickly headed towards the classroom. 18

She wished she dragged a little coming down the hall. This was the worst class of the day. 19

She slithered into her seat against the far wall. The class wasn’t bad because of the classmates or the curriculum but of the obese woman at the front of the classroom, Ms. Parris. The teacher was decked out in a red shirt and a tight fitting skirt, exposing her flabby elephant legs. The red only made her look like an overgrown tomato. Her face was glossed over with too much cover up and eye shadow. It was obvious of the wrinkles etched deep into her skin. She tried to hide it with her huge round glasses but it couldn’t be hidden. Her skin looked like it was stretched leather against her body.20

“Get in your seats now!” Ms. Parris cried, sending the young adults into their seating arrangements. “Today we will be continuing our lesson on imaginary numbers.” The fat woman began to hobble to the board and explain things in rapid motion. Judy just wanted to lean back in her seat and close her eyes. The restless night before finally caught up with her. Her head began to bobble towards the desk in a sleepless rhythm.21

“I’m no expert on human schools but aren’t you not suppose to fall asleep?” A familiar voice replied. Judy snapped to attention and glanced around and sitting on the open textbook was the fairy she kept dreaming about. She glanced around, frantic about anybody seeing him. Some classmates were passing notes or sleeping or just doodling but nobody spotted the mini boy on her desk. 22

“Relax.” Ashley reassured. “I’m invisible to everyone but you. Do you really think I would go into a school full of teenagers without the proper care?”23

“What are you doing here?” She whispered to him.24

”I wanted to see you.” He replied. Judy narrowed her brow.25

”You didn’t seem so welcoming this morning.”26

“Well, I’ve been thinking about it and I decided it can’t be that bad. I mean having a human for a friend has its positives like I don’t have to worry about cats or anything.” Ashley pointed out. Judy couldn’t help but be skeptical27

“You’re not going to do something tricky, are you?”28

“Me? No, not unless you want me to.” Ashley’s eyes glittered a blast of green in his eyes.29

“I don’t think that is necessary.” Judy assured. She couldn’t help but be suspicious. Through what she already knows of fairies and the boy’s actions, it was obvious that he couldn’t be trusted. 30

Without knowing, Judy had sparked the wrath of Ms. Parris.31

“Judy! Who are you talking to?” The teacher from hell demanded. Judy snapped at attention.32

“Nobody ma’am. Just talking to myself.”33

“I don’t believe that for one second. You have a cell phone out, don’t you?”34

“No, I don’t-I” Judy tried to explain but what could she say? She wasn’t the off-the-wall students that would talk to themselves. Ms. Parris stumbled towards Judy’s seat and gave her a glare that would have broken any student down. Ashley’s eyes widen.35

“I didn’t know they made humans this big!” He exclaimed. Judy had to cover her mouth to stop from bursting out laughing. Ms. Parris caught this and was thrown in a furious rage.36

“Excuse me Ms. Rosengard but are you laughing at me!” The woman began to scream. Her face turned into a bright red shade of exasperation and rage.
“No, I’m not, it’s hard to explain-”37

“Well, you can explain it to the office!” 38

“She kinda looks like a tomato, doesn’t she?” Ashley commented. Judy swatted him off the desk but he just flew up to her shoulder like a cartoon devil. “How ‘bout I turn her into one.”39

“Don’t you dare.” Judy whispered but it was heard.40

“Don’t I dare send you up to the office!? That’s it, get out of my classroom!” Ms. Parris was turning a deeper shade of red.41

“This woman isn’t being nice to my friend at all. I think it’s time we teach her a lesson.” Ashley whispered into Judy’s ear. His gentle brown eyes switched to a devious shade of green. 42

Ms. Parris began to hobble back to her desk for the proper papers for this procurer. Judy just though it was the lighting or the redness of the dress but it became more and more apparent that Ms. Parris’s hair was turning an obnoxious shade of bright red. 43

“Ms. Parris, your hair-” A student tried to warn but was quickly cut off.44

“Do you want to go to the office too?” She snapped. The student retracted his statement. 45

Ms. Parris stopped in the middle of the row of seats and looked like she was expanding. She began to scream and gesture her arms wildly. Judy glared at Ashley and he just shrugged his shoulders and gestured to watch like it was television. Judy tried to turn away from the sight but found she couldn’t. Her horrible math teacher was swelling up like a balloon or a tomato. The students began to scramble away from the growing teacher. Chairs and desks were pushed over and crushed on the floor. Ms. Parris’s clothes began to stretch but not tear as to accommodate her new façade. Her exposed skin was turning into a shiny peel of eyesore red. The waving flabby arms of Ms. Parris soon shrank to only little buds for hands in her massive sides and her legs were swallowed up as well. The students had no choice but to back away to the back wall in hopes that their giant teacher would stop growing.46

“Stop this right now.” Judy demanded to Ashley, not caring if people thought she was talking to the wall. “This insanity must stop.”47

“Why? She was so mean to my friend; she needed to be taught a lesson.” Ashley replied, almost sarcastically. 48

“I mean it right now, Fairy; change my teacher back to her original form!” 49

“My name is Ashley, get it right.” He snapped. 50

“Whatever, Ashley, just turn her back.” Judy growled. Ashley sighed and flicked his wrist. The woman began to expand more. Judy was about to threaten the life of the fairy, but spotted him sliding behind her. She quickly found out why. The woman burst and sent a wave of tomato paste all over the classroom, covering each student including Judy in a mushy red mess. The only ones that wasn’t covered in a horrible tomato paste was Ms. Parris who now was on the floor, passed out from the excitement and Ashley who hid behind Judy’s golden hair.51

“Thanks for covering for me, buddy.” Ashley smiled. He licked the tomato paste off her cheek. “Mmm, tomatoes.” Judy just stood there, horrified at the sickening of the tomato paste that covered her body. 52

“Go, now.” Judy was able to growl, wiping the redness from her eyes. 53

“But Judy, I was just trying to help.” Ashley gave an appalling grin.54

”If you value your life, you will leave.” Judy threatened.55

”Whatever you say, my best friend.” With that, Ashley vanished without a trace. Judy wondered if she made a terrible mistake befriending this creature. This was a user of magic and not trustworthy, having him around could cause trouble more than he’s worth. Judy couldn’t let him escape from this wish; she would just have to teach him about mutual agreement in her own way. 56
