"Aquatide, look out!"
Jen'ika turned at the warning and gasped at what she saw. Hurtling through the air towards her at impossible speeds was a semi-truck, one thrown from the explosion. The image bearing down on her made her freeze up, fear choking her ability to move. This was it. She was going to die and all the superpowers in the world could not save her. She watched, frozen in place, as her demise loomed near and wished of all the things she could change. The semi closed in and she was suddenly blinded by a brilliant white light and intense heat. So this is what death is like, she though as the heat began to fade. She thought she could hear a faint voice calling out to her.
"Aquatide!"
"Mom?" she called back, dazed.
"Aquatide! Aquatide!"
"Mom, is that you?" she responded, not caring how or why her dead mother knew her superhero name. Maybe it was an afterlife thing. You know, watching from above and all. "Mommy, I miss you so much."
Jen'ika began to see a figure approaching. One who seemed to accompany the voice, and she knew it was here mother.
"Aquatide!" the voice said. "Aquatide, are you okay? Snap out of it!"
Jen'ika suddenly felt a thousand pin pricks rake her arm as she snapped back to reality. All around her chaos roared. Fires burned, winds howled, and storm clouds crackled with lightning. She looked around as her vision returned and began to remember what happened.1

Vylette reeled from the last attack. She stumbled back, balancing on her staff. As she regained her balance, she noticed that the attack had shifted and now her friend was in danger. She watched as the explosion from Lightstrike's latest assault sent a semi-truck flying through the air. She had to do something.
"Aquatide, look out!" she screamed.
But her warning seemed to have no effect. Jen'ika just turned and froze, looking on as the truck came closer. Why is she not doing something? Vylette wondered anxiously. Come on Jen, do something!
As the seconds to her friend's death ticked off in what seemed like hours, Vylette knew she had to do something. Apparently the pressure of battle and recent events had been too much for Jen. The poor girl's mind must have given up and taken her body with it. Now she was staring at her death and doing nothing about it. Well, Vylette was going to do something.
Pulling back her arm and gathering her staff, she threw it with all her might. Adding her power to the staff, she made it fly true, expanding as it did. Just before the truck hit, the staff enveloped Jen'ika in a diamond casing hard enough to withstand the resounding concussive force of the truck exploding. As the smoke began clearing, Vylette raced toward the remains, calling out to her friend.
"Aquatide! Aquatide!"
Feeling the elemental pull of her staff, Vylette found Jen'ika collapsed on the ground, calling for her dead mother. "Aquatide! Snap out of it," she called as she grew a batch of nettles from the ground and around Jen's arm. As one she commanded them to poke into her friend's flesh.
With a gasp, Jen'ika began to come around and stand up. She looked around at the battle field and the truck remains, at her arm, and at her friend holding her newly reformed diamond staff. She knew what had happened.
"Thanks Geode. For everything," she said as she shook the memories of her mother away.
Geode moved closer. "There's no time for thanks. Whirlwind and Scorch need our help. Can you make it?"3

Hmm...
That was an odd little snippet. Lol...this reminded me of the movie version of Fantastic Four. It's like...superhero comic made movie made book...or something. Overall, you have an interesting premise, but I think this could benefit from more detail. Of course, judging from your author's note, it was more want to write than wanting to write an actual project. Not bad for that.
Kudos...
