A cool breeze swept across the dusty path outside the little cafe. A few people had arrived in the last few minutes, chatting happily and smiling as they ordered something to drink.
All the while the question 'What is she doing?' kept resounding in Nicole's head. Intrigued by this strange and unfimilar character, a woman so obviously different in her sunglasses and oversized mac stood out like a sore thumb, 'surely someone else must have noticed' Nicole kept wondering.
While Nicole sat there still with her pad, adgetatingly tapped her pen up and down on the table's metallic surface. A frustrating sense of unease began to creep upon her intuition. Something just felt so out of place. Still trailing the woman's path, her movements span the length of the shop across the street, a small law firm or something similar that Nicole could make out...her focus was too detailed on the actions of the perculiar woman.
'Anything else Nicole?'
'Hmm...' suddenly snapping out of her fixated gaze Nicole's attention was brought back to Celia's gaze, her cheery smile and rosy cheeks.
'Its alright Celia, I think i've had enough, Thanks though'
'Alright, see you soon' Celia quickly replied while popping off the kitchen, on her way dodging the direction of a wandering stranger.
'Hello again'
Swiftly raising her head in the vacinity of the new voice, Nicole noticed him again...it was the other mysterious character, the man who had helped her before in her clumsy hour of need.
'Hi' Nicole replied bashfully smiling right back at him. 'Damn' she thought, 'dont be so embarassed, he doesnt even know you'. He continued to pass, moving back to his little table and chair and positioning himself down to read his paper.
Head resting on bent hands, her mind became a scramble of all the things that had happened in such a small space of time, things that seemed normal yet so different at the same time. 'Theres something going on' was the inner most feeling going on in Nicole's head if truth must be told. As Nicole was sorting this all out in her head, came the second it all changed.
An almighty thud and defeaning noise shattered the area, everyone being momentarily thrown onto the floor and people's first reactions being high pitched screams that overwhlemed the senses. In that second everything became clouded in confusion of what was happening.
After about five minutes the whirlwind of chaos died down, and in its wake left Nicole dazed on the paved floor, her head buried under the scattered pages of a newspaper. Shakingly coming back, Nicole sat up to find the cafe in its sudden wake of destruction...1
