Ryonin- Main character, teenager, stranded after shipwreck, no memory of family other than that his mother fled when he was young and he was raised by his father. Destined to become a powerful warrior1

Sharia- Young woman, loyal servant of the Dark King. Eventually turns and joins Ryonin in his adventures. Immense magical powers and the ability to speak to other races2

Animal

Shan’vammel- young centaur who befriends Ryonin during his stay at the centaur camp, eventually finds Ryonin after he is missing for almost a year3

Retnvask- The oldest living centaur, takes Ryonin under his wings and trains him in the ways of the forests, and teaches him many other things

The Garnoth- Orc like beasts, travel in groups of 5-10 (called a Kilfal) through the forest and mountain regions. Brutal, violent, and prone to cannibalism. Weapons are stolen from humans or made of natural materials such as rocks or tree branches for clubs.4

Slethskins- Human form, can change to enormous snake like beings. Live in swamp and other wet areas of the land. Group in large numbers around swamps and often build large villages using the fallen branches and reeds that are in abundance. Weaponry is made of same materials, and soft stone5

Mangaths- Pure black flying lizard, said to be a small breed of dragon. Doesn’t breathe fire, but have been known to start fire by rubbing their stone-like skin together. Weapons are razor like claws and teeth.6

Vailmoth Men – Almost unknown humanoids. So named due to the resemblance to moths. Only seen at night, peaceful, and are said to sing the most beautiful songs7

Flimsier – medium sized white and gold/red birds. Often taken captive as pets. Extremely loyal to good masters. Are said to have magical abilities, but never witnessed. Prone to violence when angered8

Dermas- Secretive humanoids, said to be a descendant of the first fallen angels. Every recorded sighting has been followed by the death of a high ranking official. Born and trained to be assassins. Only seen wearing black, often with ornate silver weapons.9

Ayree Wolf- Extremely rare, large wolfs. Said to bring prophecy and good omen to the viewer. Legend says that they one of the magicborn, the few species that are endowed by EYALUTH

Deerkin- similar to centaurs, but half woman/half deer. Females are the only known gender. Extremely beautiful, known to cause hunters much trouble on long hunts. Known to have magical powers, especially in areas of causing entrancement. 10

Faerwyn- Large wind faeries, pale, almost transparent, known for their wisdom and foresight.

Quarastaen- Literally “boulder men” extremely rare living, man shaped, stone formations. The toughest of all creatures, and also the least known. Much larger than the giants that roam the mountains where the Quarastaen are found

Giants- large, brutal, stupid, and warlike11

Shemarl- a breed of black foxes that live deep in the forests of the island. Often trained as servants to the most powerful dark magicians, due to their amazing magical abilities and power to channel magic for the ethereal realms.

Hasgotht- giant spiders, shifting camouflage has made them a terror to woodsmen. Extremely poisonous and known to follow hunters in groups and feed of the carcass.12

Bloodkien (S’sathet Hierm, literally Niteshade’s children) - darkest race in the land, even eyes are pure black. Often seen splattered with dried blood due to the ritual battles. Known for brutal murderers and ritual sacrifices using human children. Well hidden, only seen on two accounts. 13

Ashlakan- Large mountain cats. Tending towards solitude and are fairly peaceable. Often seen hunting in the high slopes.

Kay Draghk (Warlocks of the Grave) - a clan of dark warlock necromancers. Live in the deep forests, fairly weak compared to their compatriots15

Kyet Kestaran (Warlocks Undead) - bone sorcerers, undead, evil, extremely powerful. Often leaders of draghk clans.

Kayr Hisenmoor (Warlocks of the flatlands) - Weak human wizards, chaotic powers, not necessarily evil, but tending towards violence.16

Kayr Iyet Te’estlen (Warlocks of the Bloodless Line) – amazingly secretive, only 3 known wizards profess to be part of this group. Considered to be the most powerful mortal (?) beings alive, serve only evil.

Enyo Hamanshoor (wizards of the Earth)- Druid types, caretakers of the earth. Worship Eyaluth fervently, and often have trained animals as helpers.17

Enyo Lavve Manea (wizards of the wandering path)- Northern wizards, often associated with the dwarves and other hardy underground folks. Hermits and wanderers. 18

Enyo Tel Hastan (Wizards of the most high) - White wizards, using their powers only as willed by Eyaluth. For good. Have been in a war with the Te’estlen since the departure of Astaroan the Wise from the kingdom.

Eyaluth- Most High God, creator…

King Hest- King of the dwarves, ancient, a renowned warrior. Extremely rich and well armed with magic.21

King Astenmoor- High king of the land, little known about his childhood, was placed into power by a group of wizards known as Te’estlen. Mage/warrior… deadly, and feared.22

Sesente La- queen of the Faerwyn, seen only by 2 living people, and both of those were immensely powerful wizards. Both left strangely changed. 23

Agnsakha- Ruler of the Garnoth, gargantuan, brutal, but stupid. Lives in deep caverns beneath the mountains and hates sunlight.24

S’sathet Rask- (Niteshade’s King) One of the most feared objects in the land, nothing is known of him other than he is deadly, silent, and without emotion25

Astaroan the Wise- a legendary hermit or amazing wisdom and power. Is said to know everything about the land, and his knowledge is only surpassed by Eyaluth. Never seen or heard from by humans, his native race, for over 147 years.
