It is a damp and cloudy day. Although the day seems a little gloomy Angel has decided that it is a nice enough day to go out and enjoy a walk out into the woods of Shuriton to find a spot read her new book from the town library. She remembers all of the safe paths that Billy had told her about the first few months that she and Jessica were there. She looks down the path that Billy had described as, "bright and cheery looking to the point of eeriness." The path seems to go forever straight, the trees look dead and some blackened, the fallen dead leaves swirl in the eerie wind, the crows caw in a haunting sense. As she looks she thinks she sees something run across the deserted way, but is not too sure. She also remembers another thing that Billy had told her about the path, "You must only go down this path during the day for if you chose to go at night something absolutely terrible will happen to you..." Angel acknowledges this remark and still goes down to see exactly what the worry is about. She walks cautiously and carefully. 1
About an hour passes and Angel seems to have gone a little more down the path then she had expected and nothing to see but leaves upon the ground and trees within trees within every step. All she could possibly see for, at least, miles were dead trees surrounded with dead leaves. She remembers back in Hollowville all the trees were much more beautiful then these. She decided that since there seems to be nothing to worry about that she could now look for a spot to read. She stops and looks at the surroundings for someplace to sit down to read her book. When she turns to look back the way she came she notices that the leaves had stirred up a bit towards the left. As if an animal or something had moved in that direction, running from something or (hopefully) running for joy. She stands there and waits. Nothing happens. She turns back and walks up to a rock, it looks a little uncomfortable but she sits down anyway. About another hour passes by and Angel is so into the book that she hardly even notices a man walking her way. He approaches her.2
"Excuse me? Do you mind if I sit with you?" Angel jumps at the sound of his voice, and looks at him in shock. "Oh, I'm sorry if I frightened you." The man continues.3
The man is very tall and very handsome. Has short brown hair to the length of his ears with the most beautifully bright blue eyes ever seen, is wearing a very baggy and long trench coat, underneath a white button up shirt tucked into lengthened black pants. He is carrying something in his right hand, it looks like a book or a notebook but she isn't too sure.4
"Oh, that's alright. And sure, I don't mind if you join me. My name is Angel Bartley. Wait, haven't I seen you before?" Angel asks after she finally regained her awareness.5
"My name is Brian Fisher. You might know my sister Rachael. She works at the town library. People do say that we look alike."6
"Wow, you do. I hope you don't mind me saying that. I do know your sister because I just met her yesterday at the library. She is very nice."7
"Yes, I know. I have been told. Quick question, why have you decided to come down this path on a day like this? Aren't you scared?"
"Yes and no, but also why should I be?" Angel looked confused.8
"You mean you haven't heard the legend? They that some evil being lives in the cave just at the end, no one knows whether it's man or woman. It casts these great and treacherous spells upon anyone it meets. It only comes out at night and whoever should be on the path at that time would be taken, no one has ever survived." Brian explains.9
"If there were no survivors, then where do the stories come from about this 'evil being'?" She asks sarcastically.10
Brian sits there and begins to wonder. Well, she is in fact right. Angel sees the look on his face and says, “I can tell you one thing for sure, I don’t believe a word of what you told me. But, I have a suggestion, why don’t we go looking for this cave and see if there is truly anything in it.” Brian gives her a look as if she was some kind of crazy woman. “I’m serious, just to put your mind at ease and to prove that there is no such thing as this evil being. I think someone made it up for a scary story in another town or something just to scare there children, and it was passed on. Come one let’s go.” She stands up holding her book in her right hand and sticking out her left for his. He takes her hand and they both walk down the path on a mysterious adventure.11
As he walks his hair falls covering half of his face, he has to keep throwing his head back in order to see. She is not as tall as him; she would probably come up to his chin. They walk in silence for a little while, mainly because there was nothing that they could think to talk about. After about a half an hour Angel starts to realize that it is starting to get dark. She is starting to get scared but she doesn’t want Brian to know, she wants him to think that she is brave and adventurous.12
“Have you realized that it is starting to get dark?” She asks but contains her real fear.13
“Yes, and we have nothing so we can see at night.” Brain adds.14
They finally reach the cave that they have been longing to see. They both stop before it to look around. It is dark inside; Angel is getting even more scared. She starts to walk towards it and she doesn’t realize that Brian has let go of her hold. She is entranced by the darkness inside for some distinct reason. Brian is completely gone from her mind as she moves closer. She approaches the foot of the cave and stops. There is a humming coming from the inside; she closes her eyes to enjoy because it sounds so beautiful. The humming is getting closer; the fear inside of her is building, Brian completely out of her thoughts. All of a sudden there is a loud and profound scream followed by the sounds of footsteps. Someone had grabbed Angel’s sides from the back and scared her to death. It was Brian and she knew it was him. That is why she is also crying while running back down the path. She liked him and couldn’t believe that he had done that to her.15
